The Best Western Plus in Rumford has been open for nearly a year now and I stayed for the first time March 7th-9th, 2023. My first night, I used points, and stayed on the first floor, and the second night I paid and stayed on the third floor. The hotel definitely stands out when you're driving down Route 2; it's basically right alongside the road. Despite that, it was a very quiet stay and traffic noise, at least from my rooms, was nonexistent. The lobby area is welcoming and bright. Very pleasant and friendly front desk staff, and the lady who managed breakfast (I believe her name was Sarah?) was super friendly and greeted me with a smile and a 'how are you' when I went to breakfast. I really appreciated the kindness. As this is a new hotel, it is super clean and modern.
The lobby is nice; besides the front desk it has a sundry shop with snacks and drinks for purchase. However, it is pretty limited so the gas station directly next door may be your best bet for snacks. There is a large dining area and the continental breakfast room, as well as a TV lounge area with informational brochures.
Amenities include free, fast WiFi, free continental breakfast (with hot food options too!), an indoor heated pool, seasonal outdoor fire pit, fitness center, and business center. I enjoyed the eggs and sausage, as well as the variety of danishes, donuts, and yogurts for breakfast. Breakfast is served from 6:00 am to 10:00 am, which is a perfect length of time for those who may sleep in.
The pool was lovely. Bright and open space with a 5 foot maximum depth, so it's not too deep for most people. Pool room has a shower (with warm water, too) to rinse off before you enter the pool. It's treated saltwater so it felt much better on the skin than chlorinated water like other pools.
I used the fitness center as well. It has a couple of bike machines, a treadmill, weights, weight balls, exercise mats and a bench press/seat thing. They're all new machines so I got a good workout in with no technical issues.
Both the pool and fitness center are open 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Now, for the room...I stayed on the first floor in a handicapped accessible room for my first night. It was large and spacious, and the shower in the bathroom had an accessible seat and two shower heads. That was nice on me after a long day driving. Basic rooms either contain two queens or one king; I'm not sure about the suites. I moved to the third floor for my second night. I enjoyed the third floor (top level) much more. The room was bright and had a closet, a mini-fridge, coffee maker, microwave, flatscreen TV, a work desk, and some USB outlets in the lamps. Bathroom was a bathroom, but housekeeping made a little rose out of the end of toilet paper, a very sweet touch! Some rooms have showers only, and some have bathtub/shower combos, so make sure you get a room with your preference. Another great feature of the room was the room darkening window shade. The window had the typical light filtering clear curtains, but then there was a roll down window shade which you pulled down or up with a beaded string (not one of those that sometimes flips itself back up). I like hotel curtains, but they don't work nearly as well as that shade did. There's always a bit of light creeping in, but it worked nearly 100%.
Note, be careful! The coffee maker will get extremely hot when brewing and after, and the coffee itself will be scalding. Obviously this is a standard of all coffee makers and coffee, but just be careful: I burnt myself.
If you need anything, the front desk will certainly help you. The location is right near downtown Rumford if you need food or anything else, and just a short walk from the scenic river falls. The hotel is clean, amenities plentiful for the location, staff very friendly and helpful, and the price is reasonable, considering it's the only big hotel around the Rumford area. I would definitely recommend a stay at Best Western Plus in Rumford. You'll enjoy it! read more
