We stayed at Bald Mountain the weekend of Sept 6 & 7. We ended up there because we were tenting for a few days before, and the rain drove us out. For a last minute reservation they were amazingly attentive (and we were a bit high maintenance!). They accommodated us at every turn, allowing us a late checkout, and leaving the boat trailer in the parking lot the day we checked out. The restaurant was really good and all of the staff, especially Amber, were especially welcoming and accommodating. The cabin was incredibly comfortable, warm at night, and cozy, especially once we built the fire. We were told our cabin had the nicest bed on the premises, and I believe it!The resort itself is beautiful, and the "cabin chic" is well done and high quality. I would like to go back next year in warmer weather and enjoy the water more. read more

I have been coming to the Rangeley area for most of my life and have heard wonderful things about Bald Mountain Camps, and I can say it's all true! Contacted via social media for information, where a person helped us get a reservation for the last meal of the winter season. Arrived about 15 minutes early and were relieved to see the pub was open so we ordered a drink while we waited. So happy they could make a frozen mudslide, a drink I haven't had in many years and they made it perfectly! We sat in the waiting area and enjoyed the view of the lake before us. We arrived at our table and was greeted by our server/hostess Katie who was excellent. We reviewed the full menu, and decided to have the two specials for that evening, Prime rib and surf and turf. They have a special steak here that is available for those who want a large portion of meat, The Tomahawk, apparently very popular but too big for me. The bread was warm and the butter very tasty, a special treat. Food arrived timely with good presentation and temperature. Delicious! We had no room for dessert but will visit again and will try to save room. read more

I did not expect to be treated like a second class visitor. The restaurant and bar were "closed" the whole time we were there. Limited staff, we were told. Except it wasn't closed for everyone - several families we spoke to were happily eating there each night. Apparently it was a limited menu, but as far as they were concerned, everything was open and fine, as usual. Not to us, because I guess we were merely first time paying customers instead of repeat guests. This experience seems very similar to other yelp reviewers: they treat their friends well and everyone else poorly. Second issue: It is a Maine "camp", but given they are charging over $300 a night, I did not expect threadbare towels, cheap soap, few dishes, no housekeeping, and a shower you had to move around in to get wet. Rustic is fine, standing on nails poking up from the floor is not. The final insult was them loudly dumping big cleaning buckets on the porch our last morning, 30 minutes before we were due to leave. The lake is clean and lovely. The landscape is beautiful. But there are many other places you can stay where you get treated with kindness and receive decent value for money. We won't be back. read more

I've never been more impressed with a place. Their cabins are adorable, affordable and give the best views (lakeside sunsets, hello!) They have comfortable beds, claw foot tubs, fireplaces which really makes them perfect for all year round! As far as the food goes, you need to come here and dine. Their chef is incredible - from apps, to dinner and desserts it's truly a treat. Their staff is next to none and you'll always be welcomed with a big hello, and a hug. They host events, rent boats, guided hunting trips - you name it they do it. There's no reason to not come here and give everything they have to offer a try. Worst case scenario you have a good nights sleep on beautiful Mooselookmeguntic and have a wonderful dinner. read more

My wife and I tried this place after being referred to it by the gentleman working the front desk at our resort. We arrived early and sat by the lake to enjoy the views and a few cocktails. Very beautiful and relaxing. We then sat down for dinner and the views still continue inside while dinning and the place is very, very clean. The staff was attentive as well. The reason that I am only giving this a 3 star is only because my wife and I found the food to have a lot of salt in it. The lobster legs we could only eat about 20% of, I had the meatloaf and my wife had the Baja tacos. Edible just way to salty for our taste. read more

This is our favorite place after a day of enjoying all the area has to offer. Tyler always greets us with a smile and proceeds to make an awesome vodka martini for me every time. Locals night offers good food for a great price. Last week we enjoyed filet mignon with seasonal veggies. It was the best meal we have had to date. Our dog Pepper joins us on most trips and enjoys browsing along the shore or eating dropped popcorn while we sit and watch the water view before or after dinner. They are always happy to have her. I just love this place and always bring our visitors. Can't wait to get back there in the next week or so. read more

My husband and I went in for dinner on Wednesday. Our waitress was initially friendly when delivering our appetizer and drinks then the service went downhill. Our entrees came out and then 10 minutes later she brought bread for the table. We were never asked how entrees were or whether we wanted a second round of drinks. We finished our food and waited.....and waited. She checked in on her other tables repeatedly and didn't even make eye contact with us. She appeared to know her other tables as she hugged them goodbye when they left. Finally I lost my patience and asked another waitress to please ask our waitress to drop off our check. Our waitress finally came over and dropped the bill off with a "here" and walked off. It's a real shame the service was so bad as the food was delicious. The salsa that came with the chips was an excellent black bean and corn salsa. We ordered the duck confit and prime rib which were perfectly cooked and delicious. Unfortunately the awful service really overshadowed the food. read more

We took our boys here for a Valentine's dinner. It was DELICIOUS! Our waitress (the chef's wife) was lovely and knew their food quite well. The hostess was charming. We had the Thai chicken, fish & chips, and chicken tenders. We also enjoyed two of the desserts. Everything was nicely prepared and presented. The dining room atmosphere was comfortable and "lodge like." We plan to come back when we're here in the summer. read more

Overpriced for what you get and I think the use of the word resort is very misleading. More could have been done to get the cabins ready for guests. The cabins are very rustic which is fine. But, you could tell no one had been in the cabin for awhile. I grew up in a rural area and I understand how difficult it is to keep bugs away. However, spider webs dont form in corners throughout a cabin in 24hr time period. There was very little effort given to get the cabin ready. Moving onto to the trash pick up. I was bagging up my trash and walking it out to the barrel daily. There were kids riding around in a golf cart picking up trash bags and never stopped to see if I had trash. I waved them down the next day to take my trash away. I dont feel as though I should have had to do this after forking over $2000 for a week at a resort. No one came to replace the soiled towels. This is the first place I have stayed at where I had to ask the staff to come and take the soiled towels. I suppose I could have walked to the office and asked for clean towels, but once again I dont feel as though I should have had to do that. Knowing I was staying at a rustic type cabin and was unsure if towels were being provided I brought towels from home and used those for the remainder of my stay. Onto the pet friendly caveat. The guests pets were restrained and well behaved. The managers dogs are not. They are in your face and obnoxious. Have you ever run into rude pet owner that doesn't pick up after there pet and lets them jump all over you....that would be Tyler. We ended up stepping in dog crap and tracking it into the cabin on one of our last days. These examples are not the only issues, but, these are the easiet to fix and the most obvious. Tyler may be trying to run this camp with a different approach and use his college degree to his advantage. But, he is a very young man who lacks the finesse to lure people with money for subsequent stays. At the bare minimum pick up the trash and replace soiled towels. Not to much to ask when paying thousands of dollars to stay there. read more

Wonderful atmosphere....rustic. I had the potato chip bacon crusted haddock with corn hash....wow! Others had the salmon, meatloaf, steak on a plank and Caesar salad....no complains...the chef created each entree with care. Wait staff was well informed and helpful. Would love to visit during the day for lunch and enjoy a glass of wine on the porch overlooking Mooselookmeuntic Lake. Maybe next visit. read more

We live in Rangeley and often go to BMC when we have visitors because it's a true Maine experience. It's a rustic old sporting camp that has been impeccably maintained. Great atmosphere - there's a massive stone fireplace in the dining room that looks onto the lake. It's westward facing so there are beautiful sunsets over the water. There's a dock and outdoor seating on their deck and lawn so you can stroll around with a drink before your meal. Friendly staff and the food is very high quality. Our guests always enjoy the fried lobster legs appetizer. read more

This was our first time eating at the restaurant. It was an awesome experience. We arrived just in time for the sunset which we were able to watch while we ate our dinner. Our reservations were for 7:30 pm and when we arrived at 7:15 we were told that we couldn't be seated until 7:30. It felt a little like a Seinfeld episode. Our waitress was awesome and the food was equally as good. We had the dumplings as an appetizer which were the best we have ever tasted. Our waitress recommended the chicken pot pie .....by the way she was the chefs wife.....and she was very well versed on how it was made. It came in a cast iron skillet with a light flakey crust. This restaurant wasn't prepared for the night, they were out of about 8 things on the menu. Most of the food that they were out of was the entres. Steak here was too chewy and not great flavor. Service wasn't good but not awful. I would highly recommend to not come here with you're family on vacation. Especially if your party is 6 or more. read more

I never write bad reviews! I know everybody has bad days and that people generally do the best they can. But this man is someone I feel I must warn people about. Some friends and I, all experienced boaters, rented a pontoon boat from him. We were very happy to find a boat rental on Lake Mooselookmeguntic. How shocking it was for us (when he handed the boat over to us) to have him be aggressive, rude, arrogant and insulting just right out of the blue! It was one of those rare life experiences when you know you've run into someone who is clearly emotionally disturbed and angry. He was no different when we returned after being out on the water. I will never return to this place and next time will rent a boat on Rangeley Lake. I started reading other reviews about the owner of Bald Mountain Camps, Steve Philbrick, and saw that other people had had similar experiences with him. Others wrote he was actually YELLING at them, this occurred whether dining in their restaurant, or renting a boat. Be Forewarned! read more

Terrible experience! Total scam. Completely unprofessional. My wife, my sister, my sister's boyfriend, and I (all in our 30's) went to Bald Mountain Camps Resort to rent a pontoon boat. Despite only having time for a 3 hour trip around the lake they still charged us full price for a half-day (4-hr) rental. The first boat they provided had an ignition problem and wouldn't start, so they retrieved another pontoon further cutting into our time. This second boat was 2ft longer and cost a bit more, but they promised that they would not charge us for the larger boat. The second boat was filthy, with standing water in the storage compartments, and had no anchor! After a hasty intro to the boat we were on our way. While out on the lake we decided to go swimming only to find out that there was no ladder to get back into the boat! It was nearly impossible to get back in, and I ended up slicing my foot on a sharp edge of the boat. With no anchor or ladder on the pontoon, what's the point? Despite this we had a very nice, (although quick) time with the boat and enjoyed ourselves. Upon arriving and waiting to hear what the total for fuel would cost, an older bearded man whom we had not yet met stormed directly at me and began yelling about how we had damaged his boat. His demeanor was startling and very aggressive. The young man whom we originally rented from then claimed "I knew we would have a problem with you!" Having no idea what was happening, I asked for an explanation. The older man ordered us to follow him back to the boat. He showed us the propeller and there was a few scratches and nicks on it. I assured him that we had not caused this damage, and never even came close to bottoming out. His temper then flared as I argued our case and he began screaming directly into my face. It was very intimidating and completely unprofessional. As I continued to argue, the other men who worked there surrounded me and my sister's boyfriend as if we were going to be attacked over a $125 propeller. Eventually, I gave up and paid the extra $125, plus an exorbitant amount for fuel, plus they charged us extra for the longer pontoon that we never wanted. I can only assume that these people are scam artists and prey on out-of-towners and tourists. Stay clear of this place! read more
