The Rangeley Inn & Tavern - My Tavern Salad with grilled salmon - so good!

What a gem - positively magical place!! I came to the lakes region in search of Moose and Loons so…read moreI made sure to book a room in the Haley Pond Lodge section to be right on the water. And while I still haven't found any moose, I saw my first loons in real life right behind my room AND managed to capture their haunting song on video right from my patio!! This beautiful inn has been around for over 100 years - and the inside of the main lodge is full of antiques and is oozing with Victorian charm - so warm and inviting!! All the staff were just fantastic- caring and eager to help and so friendly - in the lodge and the tavern both. I reserved a water view king room in the Haley Pond Lodge and it was huge!! Lots of shelf space and a huge patio overlooking the pond - just magnificent! The room had a standard coffee maker, microwave and fridge. The bathroom was beautiful and everything was spotlessly clean. Water pressure and temp worked perfectly. The grounds are the best part - there are mallard ducks all over the place. I saw two deer right outside my room when I first arrived. One night I heard a moose bugling (mating call) and it was so loud haha! Shame I never saw him lol. There are tons of species of waterfowl on the pond - I saw Ring-necked Ducks and Mergansers!! And the best part was I saw LOONS!! At first, I found a mated pair right out back from my room - and they were fishing - it was so fantastic! And I saw more out across the pond bathing and preening. The mornings were super foggy which created such an eerie ambiance and the loons were crying their haunting song - oh it was just magical! Breakfast isn't included but is served daily. I didn't try it so can't speak to it but I did have dinner in the tavern one night and it was fabulous. I got the Parmesan crab dip and a tavern salad with grilled salmon - all totally delicious. I visited in late September so the fall foliage was just starting to come in - I can only imagine how gorgeous it is during peak foliage. This is a marvelous place to base yourself out of for wildlife chasing, skiing, summer fun on the lakes - for really any kind of vacation honestly. Haley Pond Lodge is detached from the main inn and set quite a ways back - but the grounds are easily walkable. There's plenty of parking and it's very centrally located in the adorable town of Rangeley. I even walked over to the huge Rangeley Lake a few times bc it's so close - it's especially wonderful at sunset. Prices for food and lodging are reasonable, even during peak seasons. All in all I had a great experience and will most definitely be back - without a doubt!

The main structure which is used for the reception is a converted chicken barn - and it was gorgeous! The ceremony was just up the hill in a clearing just big enough for everyone to perfectly fit and admire the crazy views. One side had the colors of the changing foliage in the area, the other direction was the lake - it was like they got married at a post card photo op site! The management was wonderful to work with as well! I know it is doubtful that I will ever be hired to fly out to this location again to DJ a wedding, but I have my fingers crossed! One of the things that had me worried was that I was relying on their sound system(s) - I had a sigh of relief when I was able to hook up to both systems no problem! If you are even in Rangeley, Maine, and are getting married, you should really check this location out! Highly recommended!

For a last minute reservation they were amazingly attentive (and we were a bit high maintenance!). They accommodated us at every turn, allowing us a late checkout, and leaving the boat trailer in the parking lot the day we checked out. The restaurant was really good and all of the staff, especially Amber, were especially welcoming and accommodating. The cabin was incredibly comfortable, warm at night, and cozy, especially once we built the fire. We were told our cabin had the nicest bed on the premises, and I believe it!The resort itself is beautiful, and the "cabin chic" is well done and high quality. I would like to go back next year in warmer weather and enjoy the water more.

Contacted via social media for information, where a person helped us get a reservation for the last meal of the winter season. Arrived about 15 minutes early and were relieved to see the pub was open so we ordered a drink while we waited. So happy they could make a frozen mudslide, a drink I haven't had in many years and they made it perfectly! We sat in the waiting area and enjoyed the view of the lake before us. We arrived at our table and was greeted by our server/hostess Katie who was excellent. We reviewed the full menu, and decided to have the two specials for that evening, Prime rib and surf and turf. They have a special steak here that is available for those who want a large portion of meat, The Tomahawk, apparently very popular but too big for me. The bread was warm and the butter very tasty, a special treat. Food arrived timely with good presentation and temperature. Delicious! We had no room for dessert but will visit again and will try to save room.

Motel was booked solid so I went with a campsite this time around and I am so glad I did. Check-in was again a breeze and the staff are just so nice. Having inquired as to my activities in the area, they remembered the details and brought in up in conversation whenever we ran into each other. A nice personal touch. I stayed at campsite #9 "Double Decker" and it was the perfect size for my medium sized tent and large SUV. It came with a fire pit and picnic table. When you first round the bend, the campsites seem squeezed in there but the site itself felt pretty private once I settled in and I was not bothered by the full campground surrounding me. Quiet hours by 10pm made getting rest for my weekend activities easy peasy. As a solo camper, I felt very safe here. The nearby lounge area had a television, kitchen w. oven, range, refrigerator, and freezer, television, electrical outlets, games and more. Toilets and coin-operated showers were on the backside of this building. I don't mind pay showers but wished I got a little bit more time for my first four quarters as I was scrambling to put more in as I rushed through each visit. Bring plenty with you if you like to take your time. Firewood available for purchase (delivered to your campsite!) along with some other staples. Would absolutely stay here again. And again. And again.

It was 9:45pm and other motels, hotels, and lodgers were not answering their phones. On a whim I dialed saddleback inn, and thank god we did! Not only did someone pick up the phone, but they stayed on site until we arrived and we were a good 35 mins away. If anyone has driven route 16 north from rangeley to Stratton they know it's moose alley at dusk especially, they knew and told us to be careful and that they would be waiting. They were right, we saw 7, four females, one with a baby, and two males with racks bigger then mine!! At one point we really thought we may have to sleep in the car... they saved the night and the trip for us. We can not thank them enough. The room was warm, clean and had everything we needed. The sheets on the bed were wonderful and smelled of clean linens. No smoking in the rooms but they give you what you need out on the balcony outside, where smoking is allowed. Being so late to the area, we actually missed our dinner place by an hour. Thank god the saddleback had a fridge and microwave for us to at least have something to eat. They supplied all the goods for a shower and had hairdryers available at the office. The towels were soft and they had extra pillows for the beds. They have dish tv, and so, we were able to watch a movie or two. They do have sleep hours, when no one is in the office, but they do always have someone on site and a phone number you can call if you need assistance. This place was truly wonderful and everything a lodging should be in the hospitality industry. The best pasty was waking up in the morning and stepping onto the balcony and seeing the lake down the way. Such a good view to wake up to when it was too dark to see the night before. We are already planning our next trip, with a stay at the Saddleback Inn in Rangeley Maine. They go above and beyond for travelers in the area and you would be lucky to have them host you and your family !

While we were driving through northern N.H., we got caught in a snow storm that slowed us down. A little after 8pm, I received a call from Marjorie reminding me of the reservation and asking if we were still coming. When I explained the situation and let her know we were still about an hour away, she gave me our room number and said she would turn on the heat and leave our room unlocked with the key inside. When we arrived, the room was warm and welcoming, had a very clean odor, and was in great condition. It looked like they either recently did a thorough reno or they just keep up with the paint and cleaning unlike most places I've been. I can't say whether the rooms are soundproof due to the fact that we went on a Sunday night in the off season, so there were only 2 other cars in the lot and I don't think they put us in adjoining rooms because it was super quiet. The ladies who I checked out with the next morning were really friendly and helpful. All in all, this was 5 stars, and I will stay there again if I find myself in the area again.

Simply put, here are the pros and cons; Pro: beautiful, ski-in/ski-out lodge, direct access to the Sugarloaf village, large hot tub outside that overlooks the mountain, not too unreasonable price wise (not cheap, but you are right on the mountain with amazingly close parking) and charming vibe Cons: the check-in procedure is insane. They won't let you check in until 4pm on the dot. I totally understand if they are still cleaning the rooms, but if the rooms are clean and ready to go, just let people check in at like 2 or 3. During covid, it makes zero sense to have a line of 15-20 parties all waiting to check in at the same time. We had a small baby, and there were also several old people checking in. It just seemed asinine to create a policy that goes completely against all common sense during a global pandemic. Anyway, other cons were; the room was so tiny (which isn't horrible, but there were barely any clothing hooks, shelves or drawers to put stuff in-- and who doesn't have a lot of sh--t when they are on a ski trip!?!) and the housekeeping was pretty invisible (I'm fine with not getting room service during a pandemic, but can you at least pick up my trash and give me some towels!?!). So, obviously the pros outweigh the cons, but, the cons did take away from the comfort of our stay. However, I did have a great stay. If I return, I would just come an hour or two later to check in (if it's during covid), and I'd splurge for a larger room.

Asked me multiple times how I booked it (which I did through her website). She even said this system is "retarded" Even though my Reservation was made with Amex Platinum, when I checked in Owner swore up and down they did not take Amex. After arguing for about five minutes I dug out my Chase Visa and paid that way. She had the nerve to charge me an extra $40 over the confirmed amount. Said it is their 4% policy for using credit cards and above her pay grade to return it. I showed her again the confirmation and she acted like she needed to call the Owner (which is her and her Husband). She finally tried to refund the amount and could not do it so she handed me $40 cash and made a snide remark as I left to go to my room. All the while she was rude to someone who called her while she was being abusive to me. Rooms are fine.
