We couldn't feel more lucky to have had our wedding here. My husband and I met in Vermont, but we live in New York City. We knew it was going to be complicated planning a wedding from afar, and we simply could NOT have done it without Christy. "She is worth her weight in gold!" my Dad said at one point during the planning process, and boy is he correct! We had a million questions, and for every one Christy had an answer that made perfect sense and calmed our nerves. She is an expert at this and has endless brilliant ideas about how to make the party flow. When we were clueless about how to make something happen, she took the lead. And when we had a particular idea -- a maple creemee truck, bringing a jazz band from NYC, a table with thousands of cookies -- she let us lead and helped make it happen. She even helped find a basketball court in town for my husband and his groomsmen to play a game! Above and beyond is an understatement. On top of that, the venue is spectacular. You can tell Christy and her wonderful husband, Gary have put love and thought into every corner. We threw our entire weekend right here -- a welcome party the night before, yoga on the grounds the morning of, a ceremony on the stunning hill, and of course an incredibly fun reception in the cocktail pavilion and barn. Our guests from New York City, Ohio, California, Connecticut all raved about how special it was to celebrate here, and my husband and I didn't even have to leave the grounds once we arrived on Friday morning! I'll never forget the feeling as each of our friends and family arrived at the Alerin Barn and the enthusiasm and fun that abounded the entire weekend. We wanted our wedding to be a warm, sophisticated, Vermont-y, special PARTY. Christy and Gary helped make it real at every turn. And the breakfast they make you each morning is an added delight. Driving to the Alerin Barn makes one a little skittish about its usefulness as a wedding venue…read more You climb and climb a mountain road where deerskins hang in the trees and cars sit on blocks in yards. But when you enter the world of Alerin Barn and the Keeper on Horned Pout Pond, you leave all of that behind. The property is a world unto itself-- a fully refinished farm house, a gorgeously restored barn, a pond-- and, in a meadow up on the hill (a short cart ride away, but walkable), an outdoor chapel for wedding ceremonies. The farmhouse has ample room for both halves of the couple to dress in, and a few rooms for guests to stay. The chapel has rough-hewn wooden benches and an arbor under some trees. When I photographed a wedding there the staff had brought lemonade service up for the guests. The property owners have also made an adorable cart that pulls behind a tractor to carry your guests up to the meadow where the chapel is. The barn itself is well redone with room for tables on both floors and a walk-out patio on the second floor. The DJ booth is on the second floor and overlooks the dance floor. There are patio tables by the pond and a floating dock that you can walk out onto. The staff is wonderful (both the in house and hired in staff) and the owners are personable and very, very capable. The wedding I photographed there also featured a fireworks display over the pond, it was spectacular.

It is absolutely unique with wonderful 19th century buildings in perfect condition, the animal sanctuary, and incredible views of the mountains on all sides. Our son's wedding was outside with a view of the Lake Willoughby Gap. Spectacular setting as you walk through flower covered fields to the wedding site. The staff is well-organized and very friendly. By the end of your stay, they seem like family. The guests, who attended from all over the U.S., absolutely loved it. If you are considering a wedding venue or a place to stay in the Northeast Kingdom for a few days, look at Inn at Mountain View Farm. You will be glad that you did.

Mulburn Inn Review September 25, 2026 * We have stayed at…read moremany Inns and B&Bs over the years in several countries; The Mulburn Inn is the absolute best of all of them. Why? For all the reasons you see on the website: the impeccable cleanliness, comfort and loveliness of the guest rooms, the elegance and style of the house and its history; the dedication to the comfort and pleasure of the guests, the homemade breakfasts, the location, the relaxed but elegant and welcoming vibe. But most of all, for us, what distinguishes The Mulburn Inn are the hosts, Dave and Karen. Dave had me at "Hello." I called to say we would be late, and he was simply wonderful; we were headed to theater up the road apiece and Dave was relaxed and kind and completely accommodating. Later we discovered Karen and Dave have set up their screened-in porch for their guests, with clean-burning propane fire tables filled with amber fire glass. Despite the chilly North Country climes, we were wonderfully warm. But if we needed more, they also had outdoor heat lamps, enabling us to spend hours hanging outside. It is bliss. Best of all? Dave and Karen hung out on the porch with us. I have never laughed so hard as I did at Dave's expert, hilarious storytelling. (Karen is the perfect foil, filling in the blanks with actual facts when needed.) And if you are really lucky, you will catch a glimpse of their two elderly Dachshunds who are the sweetest. Plus, if you are curious about the fascinating, star-studded history of The Mulburn Inn (formerly The Ivie Estate), just ask, and Dave will regale you with the best stories of its history! Karen's décor with the perfect style of country and cool top off the experience, as do the snacks they put out for night owls like my husband and me. There's much more to tell, but I'm trying to keep this shorter than novel length. We loved it so much, we made reservations to return 8 weeks later! They do offer a lift for those that are handicapped or injured to the ceremony site. The chapel, which was used for a cocktail hour the night before, is clean & appears to be recently built or recently renovated. It's a romantic setting. Just before the reception began while pictures were being taken, guests were able to chit chat at tall tables on a patio-like setting with an outdoor 'hut' bar. Very charming! The views were incredible for fall foliage. I cannot speak to what it costs to have a wedding here, but it was clean & organized. They offer a package with an open bar with a limited selection. All of the staff was friendly, including the bartenders & the ones passing hors d'oeuvres. I'd suggest this location for a barn wedding, but be mindful of the parking & the traffic that goes by. We could hear cars go by during the ceremony but that's out of the venue's control.

I had to wait in line for 15 min to reserve a room for the next day, then I was told I had to call as the women behind the from desk did not know how to book a reservation, she also did not seem to be a fan of my dog whom I took on the trip with me. The room was not what I expected, no warm blankets on the bed, felt like I was in a hospital bed with the cheap blankets, shower only had half a door, making the shower experience a cold one. The food was ok, chicken was chewy. Although I lived in VT and would walk the beautiful grounds of the property, would never stay there again.
