I just got this for my lunch from Uber Eats. I really like the other location near midtown and this sounded good for my Friday "Treat Yo Self" lunch. Boy was I disappointed. I got the Reuben and it was terrible. I ate half of it because I was so hungry and threw the rest away. It had a funny after taste and terrible presentation. It looked like it was thrown together. The creamed spinach was good, so saved my lunch. I know not to order from here for lunch any more. read more

My first REAL New York deli sandwich was at The Guggenheim Deli in Manhattan. This was 1987, so $12.95 was a huge amount of money for any size deli sandwich (it was a pound of meat). Although the size isn't as jumbo, the meats are primo (you won't be lean-o if you eat here often). For me, no one has come close to matching that NYC guilty pleasure until Katz' Deli Express. Today was the first day I had breakfast at Katz's. Katz's has what they call a "Brooklyn Breakfast" for $7.49. You can pick any four food or beverage items from a list of twenty or so. I tried my first Latke (Potatoe Pancake) along with scrambled eggs, beef-bacon and turkey-ham (so Kosher). Although the Latke was a little greasy for my comfort, the flavor was yummy. It was served with applesauce and sour cream. Too-Much-Travel-Dad and Starving-Football-Player also ordered the Brooklyn Breakfast, but one had corned beef and the other with a blintze. We were perfectly satiated. BTW, they serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday only. One thing I might add, when ordering Lunch or Dinner, the potato chips they serve are greasy, almost burned potato slices. I haven't found anyone who really likes them. If you don't like grease, order another side. After eating and having some time to kill, Starving Football Player dozed off in the big comfortable booth while Too-Much-Travel-Dad and I visited, as he was off to the airport......again. Getting an active teen out at 8AM, feeding him turkey-ham and milk at breakfast is a recipe for a nap I guess. Needless to say the booths are large, comfortable, and some are semi private, great for a sleeping kiddo. Also, Katz's is a great place to dine alone. This is yet another place I'm comfortable reading a paper or book while dining. Some of you know exactly what I'm talking about. :) read more

If you are familiar with Katz's Delicatessen on Manhattan's lower east side (corner of East Houston and Ludlow), be forewarned: this establishment with a couple of locations in metro Houston is NOT affiliated with the famous deli in NYC and, despite efforts to emulate Katz's Delicatessen in NYC, it is nothing at all like it. Katz's deli in the Big Apple Serves up an amazing variety of terrific sandwiches, burgers and dogs. Katz's of Houston serves up a more limited variety of sandwich's, burgers and dogs that, on a good day, achieve mediocrity. Katz's deli in NYC is known for its theatrically grumpy service (what else would you expect in New York)? Service at Katz's in Houston is pretty much what you'd expect at any of the other 12,000+ restaurants in metro Houston. It will be good but not great and certainly not memorable like the gruff service at the real Katz's deli on Manhattan's lower east side. There is no free parking anywhere near Katz's deli in NYC. Fuggedaboutit! Katz's in Houston has lots of free parking. If you're going to NYC, Katz's Delicatessen should not be missed. Despite the lack of free parking and their grumpy New York service they've been in business since 1888! If you're going to be in Houston, you have 12,000+ other places to pick from when you get hungry, most of them with friendlier service and free parking but that will be no more memorable than most of your other 12,000+ alternatives. Better hurry, though. Unlike the one in NYC I very seriously doubt if the ones in Houston will be around 129 years from now. read more

I am sorry, but this place is way too expensive for what it is. There's a reason their prices are not on the menu online. Their prices are outrageous. I got a skinny turkey sandwich for $10 to go. It is literally bread (not "nice" bread, just your standard grocery store bread), a piddly slice of tomato, a wilted leaf of lettuce, plain deli turkey (again, nothing special at all), and a slice of cheese. It comes with a small pickle and some gross slaw. No chips. No drink. Just your basic, I-could-make-this-at-home-in-30-seconds turkey sandwich. It is so bland I could scream. The to-go counter leaves a lot to be desired from a service perspective. The only plus is that they are fast. Otherwise, meh. No mustard or mayo packets were offered. No napkins. I am eating a completely dry sandwich. The styrofoam containers are so 1983. Their salads suck too. It's like $20 for a bowl of 98% lettuce. I was in a pinch so had to get something on the go, but otherwise this place is a MUST MISS for me. read more

There is a promotion to get half a sandwich before 4pm. We were ready to order before 4pm but the server didn't get to us until 4:02pm. We asked if it still applied and the server went to check with the manager who said no. We were told they could no longer do it because it was after 4pm. Despite the fact that we were ready to order when it was in fact still valid. Additionally, it was almost empty in the restaurant. There was one other table in the entire place. We will most definitely not be returning nor will we be recommending this restaurant to anyone. read more

Classic dinner food but with great quality. Breakfast or lunch is highly recommended. Priced pretty fair for the area but you get your moneys worth. Weekdays are definitely better than weekends when it comes to seating as it is limited. read more

Always delicious and always filling! Can not say enough good things about this location.

A host with a flower shirt on was being extremely disrespectful to me. She told me there was a 10 to 15 minute wait and I said okay can I sit outside there's no one out there and she told me no you can wait outside. I said okay I'm not waiting outside and she smirked and laughed and said your not sitting at that table and shook her finger at me. And started laughing as I walked out. This is the most disgusting customer service I've ever seen. I'm a manager at Olive Garden and again this is absolutely pathetic. I would've fired any host that ever spoke and treated a guest the way she did. Absolutely disgusting. read more

Eating a Reuben here is quite a project, and a worthwhile one at that. Was it the best Reuben in the world? Not quite, but in the eternal search for excellent representations of the pinnacle of the deli-sandwich genre, Katz's rates well. I ordered the classic size hoping it would be human in proportion, which it most certainly was not. Way too large, the sandwich is just a mess to eat. But eat (conquer) I did and must say it's prepared well, with excellent quality corned beef, and what seemed to be a home made Russian Dressing. Since this was my first visit, I was surprised to find an ample supply of thick potato chips and a perfectly crisp dill pickle served on the side. Happy employees, fun and upbeat decor made it a delightful experience all around. read more

We used to love eating here. The portions were known to be large and the quality of food always good. Such a disappointment today when my $12 sandwich was so small it could be eaten in 3 bites. When we asked if this was really what one gets for $12 we were told we only get 3oz of meat on our sandwich and it's a measured portion. I am pretty sure the entire sandwich, bread and all was included in the 3oz. Such a shame we left hungry. Won't be returning. read more

Took forever for a server, they were all in the back talking, although when our waiter finally came said she was working on to go orders. Came specifically for potato pancakes, they did not have them, a supply issue problem. Was thrown off because I came for potato pancakes and didn't know what to order and since we were short on time I ordered the Nosh basket. So expensive so little food. The sauce they sent was gross. My husband ordered a sandwich and it was good. read more

It had been years since I have been to Katz's deli but I was in the neighborhood and wanted to give it another try. I was blown away. Upon walking in you are seated by a host, as opposed to before where you ordered at a counter. The menu is quite large with apps, soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees like salmon and chicken fried chicken. I ordered the spinach salad with warm bacon dressing and added chicken because I thought based on the price there wouldn't be enough food. Boy, was I wrong on that one. Giant salad and an entire chicken breast was added. The salad was fresh, flavorful and delicious. If you have room after your meal for a dessert definitely grab a black and white cookie. They are just as good as the ones in New York! read more

Very poorly run restaurant. Food was very good. Waited 1 hour for a 1/2 empty restaurant. Only to be sat at a table that was open the entire time we waited. We were told that the kitchen was backed up yet we saw food coming out w in 10-15 mins. Manager very out of touch w guests. read more

Usually we love this establishment, been eating here for years, but today we had the worse service. Took us over 10 minutes to find out who was our waiter. Took 25 min to get 3 root beer float. One barely had root beer. Other two, the ice cream was almost melted. The kids meals were fine. My husband's food was under cooked and drench in sauce. My burger was burnt and drench with sauce. My husband and I try to get someone's attention. Each person we flagged down said they would tell our waiter ( a tall woman was rude about it). My husband gave up and ate what he could, I was unable to do the same. I was finally able to get the manger's attention. I explained everything that went wrong. It took a minute, but manager finally offered to replace my food. I told him we needed to leave soon. He said ok. It Took another 15 minutes to replace my meal. I ordered desert to go, took over 20 minutes to get a slice of cake and pie. They gave us the incorrect items. We waited an additional 15 min to get the bill. My husband was so livid, he walked out. When I spoke to the manager, Yoselin Silva, he backed up his staff. He admit my food was done incorrectly and his staff was busy helping other tables. They basically forgot about us. We eat there a few times a month and never had this problem till today. They are usually busy too. He tried to blame it on us. We came in the wrong door. We enter that door all the time, never had problems. When I asked for corporate number, he finally comp the meal that I never got to eat. I should not have to argue with a manager when he witness first hand what happened. What the manager didn't get was it wasn't about the money, it was the fact that it took us over 1 1/2 hours to get a few burgers and root beer floats. It was poor service. It ruined the rest of our plans this evening. I understand people get busy, but don't blame the customer when your staff gave poor service. They cater to a bigger party than a family of four. Sad part is we use Katz for company functions for two different businesses. We will make sure they use a different vendor. Corporate will be called on Monday. read more

But this Katz's really does Klose. Unfortunately, just a bit too early for this night owl. I've been a fan of Katz's for over 10 years. Boy oh boy was I delighted to learn of a Katz's Deli (albeit "Express") when I moved up to the Woodlands. The food quality is on par, if not even better than some of the other locations. I'm gonna be nice, but I'm inclined to ding the heck out of a company whose tag line has been "Katz's never Kloses". They really should reevaluate this given the presence of many 24/7 businesses in their immediate area. I would love nothing more than to have to retract my review. read more

Haven't eaten here despite it being here for like 5 years or more I think. Came here finally with some guys and was mostly unimpressed. Short review: Yeah, it's expensive, the portions are ok, the staff was cold, but the food was pretty good. I'd probably pass and go somewhere else if given the option, but would come back. Anyways. I had some big meaty sandwich, can't remember what, and the fried pickles. I keep overbuying stuff cuz I want to try so much in one sitting... But overall I was impressed. Not fond enough of pricing and staff to put this on my priority list though. Take out is probably best option! read more

Katz's Deli helps me get my NYC or even East Coast fix of Reuben's, subs, heros, pickles & Dr Brown's soda. After spending about 20 yrs in the NY/NJ area its hard to get great East Coast comfort food. Katz's aims to please every time and that they do. They offer the Express size (about a half order) of most of their subs and sandwiches. This is great for that quick taste of NY. Or the Klassic size (The MAN sized portion). I honestly have not had anything bad from them. All items come as close to NY as possible (as Keith D. mentions). Although the prices can sometimes exceed $12 per plate, you get $12 worth of food on your plate. My fiance and I ordered take out from Katz's tonight. The sweet potato fries were soggy, thin, and limp. They were $4.50 for a small serving. The chicken in my Buffalo Chicken Salad was mushy. The lettuce in my salad was browning. My fiance ordered the chicken parm hero and said it was decent, but at $13, was entirely overpriced. We also ordered an appetizer, which included terribly greasy potato pancakes. We will never be returning here again. read more

My boyfriend and I went here while waiting for my daughter to get out of a high-school party. They weren't packed at all. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. He gave us some suggestions. Can't remember what my boyfriend head but it was not memorable. I had chicken and waffles. I remember my chicken was not seasoned at all! The waffle tasted decent but it was cold. Maybe waiting for the chicken to fry. My boyfriend's food was very average. I remember him saying that like twice. I don't know if it's because the menu is so large but that was our experience. It's a nice looking place. We have no urge to go back but it is 24 hours and that helps after a night of adult partying or somewhere to grab something when everything else is closed. I would probably get something to go and bring it home to season it. read more

I've been here twice in the past few months and had very different experiences. The first time was very average, everything was fine, nothing amazing but not terrible, so probably 4 stars. The second experience was bad. I will say it was odd, though, because we went on christmas day. They were one of the few restaurants open, as their motto is, "Katz's never kloses." Well, they might as well have been closed then. After we were seated we told our waitress that we needed time to figure out our order, so she came back after a few minutes. I decided that I wanted to get a breakfast thing, but she said that they weren't serving breakfast. So I had to take more time to figure out my order. But then, in addition to not having breakfast, they were out french fries, and then they ran out of french bread. So it was disappointing in the lack of things available. Lol our waitress okay but not too sympathetic, but the manager told us that they were having a really crazy day, were short-staffed, and he took a few things off of the bill, so at least they tried to do something for us. read more

It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I've been to the real Katz in NYC and this is a very distant second. I longed for the NYC version and I suspect this is the closest i'll find until the pandemic stops and NYC returns to normal. Staff was very friendly and service was fast. read more

Meh. Just a typical deli, nothing too special. I ordered the French dip and it was bland, felt like it was missing something. For $9 for a small sandwich I wish it was a little better. The pickles and coleslaw for the table were fantastic. Almost didn't try the coleslaw as it is not my regular type. So glad I did not skip it. We had chicken and waffles, yankee pot roast sandwich on French bread with onion rings and a Reuben with fried potatoes! They were all delicious. Will definitely be back again. Hubby ordered the $14 meatloaf which came with mashed potatoes and a side (chose salad). Meatloaf and mashed pots were served in a large dish with a shallow bowl in the middle. The actual plating part of the dish was the size of a very shallow cereal bowl. It wasn't even as wide as their forks. Salad was small as well. The portion sizes on this meal were so small that a trip thru a fast food drive through took place on our way home...and my hubby is a skinny man. I ordered the $11 skinny Ruben sandwich. It was tasty but mostly kraut and came with no sides. On the plus side...the service was great! We keep giving this location a chance but they keep underwhelming us. MANY other good options in the area with bigger portions and cost less. read more

I have eaten at Katz's Deli multiple times over the past several years and had great breakfasts, super sandwiches and other items. Never been here during daylight hours, but after my night shift it's the perfect spot to relax and get a great meal that isn't in a paper bag. Their French onion soup keeps me coming back. Tonight during my experience I watched as there was a 20 top and 10 tables sat. It's a Monday night so I'm sure it is slightly unusual traffic for the day. The manager did a great job making sure to help all around while the staff took care of the guests. She started me off while my server was getting caught up. Love the staff. Love the atmosphere. USED to love the food--they made salami and eggs like my mom with grilled onions. They had amazing bagels with awesome cream cheese. They had traditional Latkes (potato pancakes). They were a true blue Jewish kosher style NY Deli. Not anymore. Now they are more like a high priced Benagins or Fridays or Chili's. Just another chain that happens to be open 24 hours. That's really the only appeal anymore. The final drop for them from being a truly good restaurant was the cream cheese change. Their new cream cheese tastes fake. It has no flavor and it is way to soft. I have tried it more than once and more than one location. It is truly horrible. Here's the best part though. When I commented about the changes (the potato pancake is just a hash brown now--no more salami and no more real cream cheese) I was politely told I was only one customer and these changes were not going away. I even asked if I could just bring my own cream cheese at one of the restaurants but was told I could take it to go and use my own but could not eat in if I wanted to use real cream cheese instead of whatever it is they are using now to save a few bucks. Very sad indeed. I have been a loyal customer for over two decades. The decline in quality is alarming. Eat at your own risk but do enjoy the atmosphere and people. read more

DISAPPOINTING. Eat elsewhere. I knew it wouldn't be the Katz's of NYC. But to shame the name with the quality of my sandwich was just wrong. As a franchise I hope Katz's is doing quality reviews of this place. Sandwich was DRY, Bread was old and crumbling and the amount of meat for the New York size sandwich ($21) was VERY disappointing. It was the prices you'd pay that and more in New York. Eat elsewhere or go to Jason's Deli for a good sandwich. read more

I keep saying I'm never going back because their corned beef sandwich sucks. Truly, Arby.'s corned beef is more unauthentic, but tastes better and probably has better meat.
