This Ace Hardware store on 5598 Pin Oak Rd in Katy, TX is the model example for what the ideal hardware store should be. 1.) The store has most everything you need and it's easy to find stuff. Plumbing, electrical, hand tools, power tools, key copying, knife sharpening, and assorted weird stuff you might need for whatever task. 2.) Knowledgeable staff that is helpful and actually knows what the heck they're doing. 3.) No hoard of people in the parking lot looking for work. 4.) You can keep one eye on your truck and don't have to worry about your stuff getting stolen. The prices are higher than the big box stores, but it's worth it. read more

It's like going to the UPS Store. You know you're going to pay a little more, but it's nice supporting Small-to-Medium businesses. This is a full service Ace Hardware. I like Katy Hardware because they are a small Hardware store that has a wide selection of goods and a great staff of people to support it. I am a do it myself person and if something is broke I try to fix it before replacing. What I have notice over the years is that the big chain stores stopped carrying a lot of the small bits and pieces you need to do repairs. If no stars were a thing... As others have stated this location simply doesn't care about yours and others healthy and safety. The fact that we are many months into a pandemic and this business chooses to argue and debate the effectiveness and need for masks is negligible. Upon entering today I was dismayed at the fact that I was approached by an older gentleman with no mask who in fact was an employee asking if he could help... yes you can, put on a mask and act grown. While they had what I needed I chose not to do business with them and hope others won't as well. Because caring for others nowadays means wearing a mask. Like other reviewers have said, this place does is not taking any precautions when it comes to COVID-19. A few employees are wearing masks, but most are not. An elderly man brought this up to the cashier and was met with hostility. The cashier claimed they were not required to wear masks because they were in Fort Bend and not Harris County. I believe the customer said he was going to do something about it and the cashier, very rudely, said "Go right ahead." The employees continued to talk about it after the customer had left, saying he was just a scared old man and that he didn't know if they had any health conditions. I seriously doubt all the employees at this hardware store happen to have health conditions preventing them from wearing a mask. I don't care if you believe in masks or not, if you don't have a health condition, it literally does not hurt you or anyone else to wear a mask. So what's the harm? If you even slightly care about your health, I would advise against going to this location. They obviously don't care if they lose customers because of their negligence in a worldwide pandemic. read more

To be fair I have had some good experiences with Katy Hardware before but I do not know if I am ever going back there now. I used to love to shop at the local hardware store instead of Home Depot and Lowes. I wanted to support a real Katy business. I bought an electric chainsaw to cut down some bushes. I used it very little and quickly found that the chainsaw did not have enough power to cut down the bushes. I attempted to take the chain saw back and get a more powerful one. A young manager, I guess he was manager, was called to look at the chainsaw when I walked in. With no emotion or smile and without much of a welcome, he looked at the chain saw and said they would not take it back. There was no empathy or understanding. Just a quick no. I can understand if they cannot take the chain saw back but to not take some time with me to help me understand why or even understand my issue made me very upset. The manager probably could have saved my business by treating me like a human being and listening and understanding why I was frustrated. I was not causing an issue or making a loud fuss. After the cold no and after not being able to get anything else from him, I just said that I was never coming back and that I would take my business elsewhere. And that is what I did. I ended up going to Lowes and buying a chain saw and other items. I do not love going to Lowes but at least they will have much more merchandise to choose from. And they have a better return policy and better customer service. I do not know if the customer service could have been much worse though. Again I did not cause a scene at all. I was one of those customers that says very little but then never comes back. I guess Katy Hardware does not want or need my business. read more

For a business so clearly run by women... It's ironic that when a woman walks into this hardware store she can't get help. You have a bunch of good old boys standing around shooting the bull with male customers when they should be helping the other customers in the store. I stood behind 2 customers and a man who was helping them and after they were helped they stood around and talked despite the fact that 2 of the 3 saw me and another woman customer waiting for help. This was after I walked up behind a male store employee and tapped him on the shoulder for help and he was so focused on the men coming in the store he completely ignored me and walked up to the very next first male customer that came in the door to ask if they needed help. So I spent 30 minutes in the store looking for help with a power washer and attachments as well as some other items that I needed (saw and paint) and I walked out 31 minutes later with nothing because I was heading to Lowe's. It's 20-35% less expensive there anyway. I was trying to support the locals by giving them another chance but no thank you. read more

I placed an order online at Ace Hardware. For curbside pick up. When I received my confirmation email it said that I could pick it up curbside or in-store. It is going to be hard for me to return to this store. I love Katy and I try to support local businesses, but y'all got to work with me a little! This place is soooooo over priced. I get having to compete with the big stores, but come on! I went in today to get three 4x4x12 pieces of lumber. First off, each piece is almost $4 more than Home Depot. THEN, they charged $1 per cut!!! I needed 6 inches cut off each piece. Home Depot charges nothing to cut! This is not the first time I've noticed how much more expensive it is then Home Depot. I guess if you just need something small like a couple of nuts and bolts, then this place not to bad....but more than that, it's worth driving to Home Depot. read more

I am shocked to know that for the return of the Product which we booked through online, cannot be returned. This is my First and Worst Experience and also the Receiving was Worst. 1. I went to one of the ACE store to return the Product (costed me around 15 dollars), but they told that the product can be returned only at the store where I purchased. 2. Next I travelled from Mason Rd to 559 Pin Oak Rd, Katy, TX 77494(This is the store from where I brought the Product), and at this location, I faced a different situation, and they Informed me that they won't accept and have to go to PostOffice and Post the Product to the ACE. 3. Shipping Charges should be Beared by me. So ,from my Pocket again SHIPPING CHARGES and it might cost more than my Amount (15 Dollars). I recommend and does not like to do Shopping at ACE once again. Extremely rude girl blocking door 15 minutes before they close not letting people in. This is during an unprecedented time when many people are dealing with busted pipes and trying to do what they can to get their houses patched up. This is a small town store in the middle of Old Katy and its customer service is amazing. You will never walk through the door and not be asked within 60 seconds if there's anything they can help you with. And the people who are helping you aren't big box employees who took a class to learn where stuff is on an aisle. They actually know what they're doing and if they don't on your particular issue, there's someone else in the store who will. I also love that they're just as happy to help you for ten minutes to find you the right twenty cent washer as they are more expensive items (which they allow you to buy as a single item instead of forcing you to buy a box full of them). Of course, it's a small store, so two cons would be that they don't have the selection a big box store does and they can't offer the discounted prices big stores can for buying in bulk, but their customer service is so outstanding that not rating them five stars would be a travesty. But, I will never again step into a big box hardware chain unless I'm forced to because Katy Hardware doesn't carry what I need. This store is also fantastic for people who don't know what they're doing. I've gone in multiple times needing help - carrying a broken item or a photo on my phone. I always stop in here to purchase local honey. Today I needed a few other items that I figured I would stop by a big box store for. To my surprise they had all the items I needed and were actually a bit cheaper than the big box stores. A gentleman who work there help me locate the items I needed, rung me up and loaded them in my car. I haven't had service like that since I lived in a small town. The man in the back of the store, the nails and screws dept have me a dirty look as I started looking for what I needed. When it was my turn to be helped he was rude and condescending. This is one of those places where a citified fellow can go in and actually talk to someone who can figure out what they need and go right to the aisle/bin and get it; try doing that at Lowes or Depot. The Manager ( I assume ) was trying to find a part that he could just give me for free!!! Who does that anymore?? The store is probably not for everyone but I love going into Katy Hardware to just look around. It is not big and flashy like the big box stores, but it serves me for my purposes. The staff is friendly and even the young high-school kids were able to answer my questions. The quality of items sold seem to be of higher quality than Lowes or Home Depot. Also, if you need keys made this is your place to go. The big box stores were unable to copy simple house keys as Katy Hardware came through for me on their first cut. read more
