To the left of the door was a window opening to the back with a woman standing there with a baby on her hip, we were looking around to see where to go and she let us know to head to the second window to the back. Upon arriving at the second window, there was a young man standing there. He didn't greet us, didn't smile, just stood there. I indicated it was our first time in and asked a question about the menu, he responded with the answer and then just continued to stand there. I was very uncomfortable so just ordered a sampler with nothing else. For the three options, i chose pulled pork, brisket, and 2 ribs. The food came out right away but no comments or anything. We saw the BBQ sauce area and I took a couple of options in condiment cups with no lids available. grabbed some napkins as we would continue our road trip and eat in the car. I am never a big fan of pulled pork; I have my favorite and compare all to it. This had more flavor than most I have had but it was really dry for being ordered early in the day. The brisket was tender and the fat attached gave flavor. The ribs were fine, also dry. This was a pit stop on our road trip because we love BBQ, this just wasn't for us.

Even though they were still getting ready, someone immediately greeted me and offered me a menu so I could decide what I wanted while I waited. I thought that was a very thoughtful gesture and appreciated the excellent customer service. Once they opened, I received my food very quickly. At first I was excited because I needed to get back to work and had a fairly long drive ahead of me. I had skipped breakfast that morning, so I was very hungry. Before leaving, I took a bite of the snoot and immediately noticed that it wasn't even warm. It was covered in sauce, which initially disguised the fact that it was cold. As I drove, I started eating the Brussels sprouts since they were easy to eat with one hand. Unfortunately, they were also completely cold, not even slightly warm. As I reached the bottom of the Brussels sprouts container, I felt something hard and extra chewy in my mouth. I pulled it out and It turned out to be a piece of plastic. I have no idea how it ended up in my food, but I took a picture of it and have included it with this review. When I went back to the snoot, I realized that most of the pieces were still covered in very hard whiskers. My understanding is that those whiskers are supposed to be removed during preparation. At that point, I couldn't help but feel like I had been served food that had been sitting from the previous day. Because my order was to go, it felt like there was very little attention paid to whether the food was fresh, hot, or even properly prepared. The entire experience was disappointing on several levels. I really couldn't afford to eat out that day, but I wanted to try a restaurant that was highly recommended while I was working in the area. I expected that food served right after opening would be fresh, hot, and delicious. Instead, it was cold, poorly prepared, and contained a foreign object. The piece of plastic was the most concerning part of the experience. Thankfully, I always chew my food carefully. Had I swallowed it or choked while eating during my drive back to work, it could have resulted in a very serious accident. Based on my experience, I would recommend eating your meal inside the restaurant if you decide to give this place a try. If there's an issue with the temperature or quality of your food, you'll have the opportunity to bring it to the staff's attention immediately. Unfortunately, taking my meal to go meant I didn't discover the problems until I was already on the road, and by then there was nothing that could be done.

We were greeted by a lovely young lady working the register who took our order and we sat down at our assigned table. We were quickly served our drinks and waited for our overly large order (we wanted to try lots of things). The ribs were delicious. Just enough smoke (this is not Texas BBQ) and so juicy. My husband's pulled pork was very good and thankfully did not come sauced already. The turkey very moist and tender and flavorful. Yum. The burnt ends were a little dry, but can be forgiven because it was near the end of the night. We were checked on frequently, drinks refilled. Then we had the opportunity to meet Susan, the owner. If you don't know Susan was a competition BBQ'r for many years before opening her restaurant with her husband and you can see all her trophies and ribbons in the room She graciously bought us some bread pudding and gave me a little secret about it! If you think this is anything other than spectacular there is something wrong with your pallet. We have eaten around the world in some very high end restaurants and that gave us as much satisfaction and joy as many a dessert. Delicious. My husband was trying to be good but sadly had to finish the lot Lovely experience, delicious BBQ. Not as smoky as Texas which is what we are more familiar with but we enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully we get to stop in again.

The kitchen was inundated with to go orders per the manager. They sure don't focus on their dining customers The chicken was the best of my 2 meat combo; the pulled pork did not have a smoked flavor. Hubby's ribs were just ok, again not with smoked flavor, Corn casserole was dry and had no sweetness. The sauces on the table were all with a vinegar taste, even the sweet & smoky sauce. We had to flag down someone to refill our drinks. Overall, the prolonged wait was not worth it. Moving on to a different barbecue restaurant!!!! The bread pudding was okay.

It's counter service, and you get to see all of the meats and sides while ordering, which makes it tough to decide what to get! I went with the Brisket Dip Sandwich and a side of banana pudding, and both were fantastic. The brisket was tender, the sandwich was packed with flavor, and the au jus really brought everything together. It was great on its own, but every table also has a selection of BBQ sauces to try. The Coffee BBQ sauce was the most interesting one, but it was fun sampling all of them to see which I liked best. If you're in St. Louis and craving BBQ, Sugarfire is definitely worth checking out!

Anything that tastes a little bit more time to prepare they will bring out to you on the floor. Keeps things flowing very well. I got the four bones (baby backs), broccoli salad (premium side, one dollar up charge), and coleslaw. I also grabbed a piece of sweet cornbread with honey butter, and fried green tomatoes with a lemon aïoli. The bones were not rendered as much as I would've liked, the fat layers were still too thick. But the flavor was good. And every table has six different sauces and you can have as much sauce as you want. I tried them all, and my personal favorites were the Carolina mustard, and the Texas hot sauce. The white barbecue was also very interesting. But they're all good. Fried green tomatoes were terrific! Broccoli salad and the coleslaw were pretty tasteless. As was the cornbread. Really wouldn't describe that as sweet cornbread. It seemed a mostly just wheat flour cornbread. The honey butter on its own was really the best side. I'm not unhappy that I came here, but would I seek it out again or try something else in the area? I would try something else in the area. And for that reason I am leaning toward 3 starts. Although the staff is terrific and really hustles here, and that is why I have to bump this up to four stars.

I wasn't sure what to order, but the friendly staff recommended that I have the brisket, and I'm so glad I heeded their advice. The brisket sandwich was the most tender meat that I have ever had. I had never had brisket before having that sandwich, now my mouth waters any time I talk about this restaurant! The cole slaw that I had as a side provided the perfect crunch and balance. My mate had the pulled pork sandwich, which was also very tender. I also loved having a variety of barbecue sauces on the table and was able to try each one. Everyone has a preference, I'm sure, but after trying each one, I am completely sold on the Carolina gold. Also, I do not typically have a fountain soda, but the cola that was on tap was some of the best that I'd ever tasted. 10 out of 10 for Sugarfire, and I will definitely be returning the next time I'm in St. Louis!

But I didn't see tater tots on the menu so I switched it up and got smoked salmon with fries, and an order of hushpuppies. I got the salmon and fried up first and both were great. Salmon was smoky and flaky, the fries the hand cut style with skin on. Both tasted great with my favorite coffee BBQ sauce. The hushpuppies came out piping hot with a sweet sauce on the side. The hushpuppies were so good! I will be craving them, thinking about them now, mmm. Line moves quickly, friendly staff, good food, fantastic hushpuppies :)
