If you can look past the cleanliness issue...and there definitely is one... This place boasts excellent home cooking. I had the chicken and dumplings which came with three sides. It was six dollars and some change, folks! Holy crap! Where do you find a meal like the for that kind of money anymore? The dumplings were clearly homemade and had tons of chicken in them. The green beans were nicely seasoned and meaty. I also had Dixie's potatoes which are hash browns with cream of mushroom soup and cheese. So good! The last side I chose was the bread pudding. Cinnamony goodness without raisins! I hate raisins, so this was a real treat for me. Seldom can I find bread pudding without them. Sometimes the dirtiest restaurants are the tastiest. :) read more

We stopped by here while traveling through town on a business trip. They only take cash which is fine by me, but most carry plastic these days, so beware. The food was tasty and the staff was very friendly. They have adequate parking, but the restrooms are pretty old. You can get your business done in them, but they are old. Otherwise, this is a great little place to get some fine midwestern cuisine. read more

Simply the best place to eat in Pinckneyville, hands down like 6:30. Service is phenomenal, staff is friendly, prices are insanely low and portions are huge. You'll leave happy, albeit a bit uncomfortable from all the food you ate. Breakfast served all day! Cool fact: it's the oldest still running business in Perry County! Dixie is there daily, her cooking skills are surpassed only by her friendly personality. If you're looking for a true American diner experience eat here! Anything you get here will be good, but I am particularly fond of any of the following: Hungry Man's breakfast, Dixie's Potatoes, Chicken and Dumplings, any of the specialty burgers, Fried Clam Strips....and you can't go wrong with a slice of homemade pie. The fried chicken is out of this world!!!! Simply put, you won't be let down with a visit here. As for other reviews saying cleanliness is a problem, I personally don't feel it was an issue whatsoever. Great breakfast stop - served all day. Generous portions. Pancakes were huge and tasty. Thumbs up for Hungry Mans Breakfast. Enough food to share! Diner reminded us of the old home style diners prominent in many small towns years ago. Coffee is average but acceptable, service is friendly and attentive. Price is very reasonable. read more

If you are looking for a good down home meal for a great price stop at the Dixie's Cup Cafe. The place is definitely a dive, but they have great food and friendly service. They serve your coffee in mugs from local businesses, and they always make sure your cup is full. I had two eggs with bacon and toast with coffee and left without paying more than five dollars for this meal. You can tell there is some history to this small town cafe. The staff make you feel right at home. Stop by if you are passing through. read more

For me this is one of those unique locations that kind of brakes a few barriers. What I mean when I say that is the quality of the food in my honest opinion, is not the best overall, the food is a little below average. I have visited this restaurant in the past and have had to problems what so ever. The food has always been good and the prices good. Today I called in an order for pickup, not unusual, at least I thought. I don't know if this restaurant doesn't make a habit of doing carry out orders but I seemed to make them uneasy from the start. The lady on the phone seemed perturbed with me from the get go. I had a question about a particular menu item which seemed to bother her but i got through with that. She then asked me how long it would be before I could get there. I told her I was 10 to 15 minutes away. She rudely told me that it would be 15 to 20 minutes before it would be ready. Ok Why even ask how long it would take me to get then? I did't understand that. I waited 20 minutes before I went in to get my order. Being that I hadn't "picked up" food there before I wasn't sure where to go at the counter for it. Of course I went to the wrong place at the counter. I was rudely told to go to the other end when I said I was there to pick up an order. When I was given the order I asked if there was a fork in the sack because my daughter was going to be eating the food on the car ride home. The cashier asked a woman down the counter if she put a fork in the sack. I didn't hear the woman's answer. The cashier must have thought that I heard her. After what seemed like forever she rudely said, "She said she did." So sorry I didn't hear that! Also, I guess maybe there is an extra charge for pick up orders. For the same thing that my daughter always get the price seemed much higher. $9.00 seems a tad high for an omelette to me. My daughter who was with me this whole time and I couldn't believe these people. We got pack to the car and was I telling my husband everything that went on and he couldn't believe it either. We had always thought this was a nice friendly cafe. Maybe we caught everybody on a bad day. I will think twice about going there again.
