We visit so often and yet I haven't updated my review in a long time! I snapped a pic of my fav brunch dish today. I almost always get the breakfast burrito with no sour cream and extra salsa... It's delicious! It comes with their famous ranch potatoes and fruit. My husband gets it the way it comes and adds a side of sourdough toast... but he also changes things up trying new things on the menu all of the time. Their lunch is also great. Stopped in for a delicious breakfast skillet while visiting the area. My companion had pancakes the size of his head. The restaurant was laid back and inviting with local artists showcasing art for sale on the walls. There was a long, but fast moving line and the staff was running like the marathoners they are. Took my cousin here and she loved it they had to reheat her biscuits and gravy but that was okay she lived the Rumchata in her coffee ... and enjoyed her breakfast.. I love this cafe, so many amazing people work there. Except for some reason my male server today, Mike, had a big issue with me not finishing my toast and decided to complain about it loudly to another server within earshot of me and my friend and try to suggest to me to get fruit instead of toast. I'm not sure why he felt that was necessary, I feel irritated that we tipped him. Never have had an experience like this. Very strange. Buddy and I went down there to visit. We were students there 40 years ago, and Harbaugh's wasn't there, quite yet. In fact we asked, and it was an arcade before became the restaurant. We stopped in for breakfast with our kids while in the area for the weekend. We are incredibly glad we did! What a great find for a late breakfast in Carbondale! We we're visiting the area and popped on Yelp to help us find a worthy eatery.. And this place came up. Can I just say, I LOVE YELP! Seems a lot of businesses here in Southern Illinois are slow to jump on the bandwagon, but clearly those businesses that have a YELP presence are doing well. So there's a parking lot just to the side of the business with 3 hour free parking. A little difficult for anyone who may be in a wheelchair, as the sidewalk is narrow and there's an incline. But short 1/2 block walk to the restaurant. Restaurant is casual and looks like it serves the college students nearby. They have a coffee counter for the caffeine fiends to grab a quick cup on the go. Seating is casual. The staff was attentive and friendly. Prices are reasonable and fair. So many options and so little stomach space! But I'm a sucker for hash and anything gravy, so best be sure that's what I got! And it didn't disappoint! As always, I ate more food than I should have, but it was oh so good! With bellies full, we were back on our way, but we will definitely keep this place bookmarked for future visits! read more

I want to bring this store back home with me. This is my go-to place when in Carbondale and I have time for breakfast and/or lunch. But to be honest, regardless of the time of day I can eat breakfast for the meal! it was bustling as it always is. We sat ourselves and were greeting and ordered drinks. The Caramel coffee was awesome! When we got our drinks we then ordered. The food came quickly and was great! Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered and the table got a bit quiet as we focused on eating. The coffees and waters were refilled quickly and we were checked on quite often. This place gets packed so be patient. The staff definitely deserves credit with how they handle the rush! We went on a very cold Sunday about noon and the line was out the door. But within 15 minutes they had us and pretty everyone else seated. So when I saw the option to buy the staff a round I sprung for that. The food is tasty. They are CASH ONLY so be prepared!! I ordered "The Flapper," which is two eggs, your choice of bacon, sausage or potatoes, and a giant pancake for $6.95. You can add your choice of fruit or chocolate chips on the pancake for $0.50 extra, and substitute egg beaters for $1.00 extra. "Viva La France" was another table pleaser, which is the same eggs and sides as offered above, but French Toast instead of pancakes. It had a great cinnamon-y taste. Harbaugh's is your quintessential quirky greasy spoon. The space is a lot of fun, with unique art and lots of fun. There are mismatched coffee cups and chairs and it's just an artistic type environment (in a good way, not "artistic.") I was immediately attracted to the biscuits and gravy (big shocker, I know) and it was so good that I came back a second time. The gravy was made from scratch, peppery and delicious. The biscuits were soft and fluffy. I decided the best way to eat it was to take the eggs and dump them right on top of the B&G. Then when I was done with that, I dumped the ranch potatoes (awesome) into the dish and sopped up all of the extra gravy and egg. Oh my. The coffee is killer. Service was fast and friendly. My fiance and I went and the wait was about 15-20 minutes. The place is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. The building is a lot deeper on the inside. The prices are very reasonable. My fiance ordered the corn beef hash and he said it was one of the best he's ever had. I don't even like corn beef hash, but I really liked it. Next time I'll probably order that. Forget Denny's. I ordered the eggs benedict. I've had better, but it was still good. The service can be a bad at times. Luckily, we had great service.
