Ambiance- 5/5 Service 5/5 - Our server was excellent and took her time with us. Super friendly. Wine- overall I would probably say a 4/5. For the flights they are served in plastic cups. My favorite was the crimson eclipse. Food- 3/5. We ordered some appetizers and they were a little disappointing/did not match the description of the menu. The margarita pizza was a little spicy. Fruit and cheese plate had some nice jam, but the presentation was off. Crab cakes were small. Also, the menu on their website was slightly outdated. For a cocktail or bottle of wine Id guess they meet expectation. The food menu is very limited. The food was mid to low quality. We ordered appetizers a calzone ( burnt in on end, blackened on the bottom -bitter tasting) and a sandwich ( warm, chips oily and soggy). It seems like there are only 2-3 staff working on a graduation / Mother's Day weekend ???? Service was slow but these folks were clearly overwhelmed. They were polite and apologetic for the food preparation time. There were very few folks there so they weren't slammed busy and overwhelmed, just overwhelmed. We likely won't be back. $325 Dinner and drinks bill and any chain place with mid quality drinks and food ( Chilis, Applebee's, Cheddars, ) would be 1/2 the cost and clearly better. An upscale place ( Flame, Texas Roadhouse, Outback) would be a way bether choice for comparable money. The Venue is stunning and looks clean. A nice-looking space, but they need a new chef badly, and don't allow outside food or drink. If you are planning to make a special trip to visit here, don't. If you are local and need a nice space to plan something, this might work for you, as long as you can either put up with the highschool-cafeteria level food, or convince the owners to allow you to cater. BAG 2K17 had an all white Kappa party here on a Saturday and the party was great. The Cave (yes we were literally partying in a cave, with little to no cell phone reception). The cave is beautiful with an awesome bar, very spacious. To get to Walker's Bluff, its a little tricky. First of all its no cell reception, so when you put the address into yours phone's GPS, take a screenshot of the driving directions, if not you will get lost. The place is hidden deep in the backwoods, no streetlights, the street reflectors, just you and nature ( yes we drove past 2 deers sitting on the side of the road). read more

Epic failure...Ok, so I want to write a full review. We ran the 5k for my bday and it was great. It was fully coordinated and was run really well. Only downfall were the lack of bathrooms. We were excited to be able to come back that evening for dinner. We were told that we were to come to Legends as there was a wedding in the other side. We got there and were handed a paper menu. After a minute we were told there was not salads, soup or steak. (Because if the wedding going on). That's fine. Limited menu due to Covid....no surprise. We ordered the mahi tacos and got them with absolutely no fixings. Epic failure. Hmm. Ok . They had nothing to substitute. We ordered in place a burger. They stated it was cooked medium to med well. It came raw with the fries hot, but raw in the middle. Shoot...another failure. The assistant manager comes by the table and tells us that he heard 'we' were unhappy. But was never given the full story. I'm going to say, I work in customer service and this was the laziest, most inappropriate experience we have had. What manager leaves when there is a wedding and customers still there to experience this. The assistant manager ended up comping our 'dinner' but I have to say I would have rather paid for an unforgettable experience. Very sad day. read more

More than a 4 hour wait. Our waitress was good at serving cocktails, but seemed to forget we were there to eat. After more than two hours, one of our party asked for rolls. They were literally thrown onto our table, cold and without butter or bread plates. When our meals finally arrived, I heard several complaints of food being cold and I've had better steaks at Golden Corral. We were never even offered desert, not that we'd have stuck around for another hour or more to get it. We expected Mother's Day to be busy, but not one attempt to explain the wait or an offer of a cocktail or a complimentary desert. Probably our first and last visit to Walker's Bluff. Btw, we left the waitress a 20% tip, because we didn't know who to blame. A little management presence may have helped. read more

The trip out of town and through long stretches of crumbly roads is deceiving. The tasting room is beautifully designed and decorated. I went for a dinner party there and it was beautifully laid out. They had live music, a fire going, and excellent service. The only downside to dining there was that they are in need of a breezeway as a cold gust of wind rips through the dining area each time the door is opened. Our waitress, Becca, went above and beyond and took groups of our party down into the cellar for a tour throughout the meal. All together, it was a wonderful night and the entire family left fulfilled. We will definitely return to this venue! read more

I heard so much about this place; its ambiance, its food, its service. Everything I heard was excellent, but my experience wasn't very good. Directions: When you try to get there, it might be a little difficult, but we saw the general store so we knew we were on the right track. You have to drive a few more miles passed the store until you reach a booth and they will direct you to the restaurant. Decor: The place was so beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations. I loved it! So excited to see what the restaurant looked like. Everything was so gorgeous with the lights, wreaths, and holly everywhere. I love the feeling of Christmas time, so jolly and tranquil. Their waiting area was also covered in candles and delicious Christmas delights. I could have waited in there forever. Seating: My fiance didn't have reservations because his friends told him it would be okay without them. WRONG! Make reservations when you go on a weekend. That was our fault so I'm not holding that against them. The hostess was able to seat us right away anyways, but that's when my problems started. They sat us at a table that was seriously 2-3 feet away from the men's restroom. I didn't like that. I could tell that this was the extra table they have for people without reservations because when I tried to sit down initially, I couldn't because the man behind me had taken up all the space. We had to move the entire table and chairs closer toward the bathroom in order for me to be seated. In the end, I told the hostess I wasn't comfortable sitting there. The idea of men's bathrooms and germs doesn't really appeal to my taste buds. My suggestion is that they move that table out and give the other two tables on that wall more space for those other patrons. Pricing: Pretty high, but you are paying for the overall dining experience. Very nice place for a special occasion. Waiting at the Bar: To pass the time, we sat at the bar. The staff at the bar were awesome and very accommodating. The female bartender was very nice and there was a man named Matt who was very helpful as well. They constantly checked in on us to see if we were okay. We weren't told how long the wait would be so we ordered appetizers. 30 minutes pass and I start getting frustrated because the hostess never checks up on us again. It would have been nice for her to come by and update us on the status of a table. We could have eaten our whole meal at there, but the tables were way too small and this was for my birthday. We had a whole view of the restaurant and knew when the tables were free, but obviously they had to fit in the reservations first, which I understood, but an open table left for 15 minutes tells me that there is no one else waiting for it at the moment. Eventually I got fed up and ask the hostess for some kind of update because it was close to 45 minutes and we were on our second appetizer. Literally five minutes after that, we were seated. I should have done that earlier if I knew it would be that quick. The hostess did check up on us again after dinner was over to see how it was which was nice, but I think it would have been better before. Food & Drinks: I thoroughly enjoyed the food for the most part. The cranberry mojito was so yummy! I ordered two. It went down like fruit punch. We ordered the calamari which was excellent and the crab cakes. The crab cakes though had a few big pieces of shell in them that I had to pick out of my mouth. I ordered the shrimp & crab etouffee. It was very delicious and tasted like jambalaya with huge pieces of shrimp and crawfish. My fiance order the kobe beef which was good, but had too much fat on it that he had to cut off. Overall, I was please with my meal except I only ate a few bites of the entree because I was so full from two appetizers and a house salad. Aftermath: Now this is where most of my complaints come in. That night after the dinner, I could not sleep. I was tossing and turning for most of the night and my stomach was not happy. I know it was the food from here because I had literally not eaten anything all day at work; it was way too busy. My one and only meal of the day was at Legends. My fiance felt the same way so we believe that it was one of the appetizers since we had different entrees. All I know is that my stomach did not like me afterwards. Elton John Billy Joel Tribute The performance was great and all the old favorites were done. Crocodile Rock had the entire dance area filled with people dancing. The show suffered constant technical issues with the venue and musically was off all night. There were only 4 porta potty's near the entrance - not very people friendly for those who were sitting on the other side of the grounds. It was very difficult to navigate between chairs and on the hill back and forth. Having them on both sides would have been more considerate and practical. The venue advertising mobile billboard next to the stage was on the entire show. It was brighter than the stage and a constant irritation and distraction during the show. Lastly for being a local winery they sold none of their own wine. ??? There was one local wine from a different winery and the rest was from CA and FL. The food was ok for hot dogs and brats. Over all the show could have been outstanding except for the poor organization. We will give it one more try considering the beautiful grounds. Hopefully, next time it will be set up for the best viewing, listening and convenience of the guests. read more

Planned a winery weekend with friends and family. Arrived today for tastings but they are closed to the public despite Facebook and their webpage saying they are open and they have entertainment this afternoon and evening. We drove from St Louis and we're very disappointed. Another couple were there when we walked in and they also were from St Louis but they were giving them wine tasting but we were told no we are closed to the public. I'm amazed they have such a huge business spread out and rapidly expanding with such poor business ethic. I would not recommend wasting your time, gas and daylight to go here, you might get the doors shut on you too and get told surprise we are closed. read more

The service is excellent as you are treated like royalty. The best part is that the prices were very affordable, when I had been told by others, that it was extremely expensive. This 5-star review gets an asterisk - if this place were in a bigger city with options, I would not give it five stars. But as it's the best fine-dining restaurant I've found in S. IL, (and I've looked), I'm giving this the full five. The place is secluded - something I see as a plus; it's nice to be away from everything. And when you go, you should valet. It's free (just be sure to tip them a few bucks). That's nice that you don't have to worry about parking and making it back to the restaurant. Like Hang T. mentioned, make reservations - I have every time I have gone here, and never had a problem. Had to wait for my table once for about 5 minutes, but that's not atypical at places like this. The ambiance and decorating is fantastic - among the best you'll see anywhere. The bar itself is gorgeous, extending upwards quite high. You can actually entertain yourself for a decent amount of time just looking around. For the price and expectations, I found the food to be a bit underwhelming. It was still quite good (I've had no gastrointestinal issues with it), just not as good as my high expectations indicated it should be. I've ordered several things from here, and while I can't recall exactly what they are at the moment, I've never been disappointed, but also never overwhelmed with awesomeness and delight. We were a party of 6. Weather had been nasty and this was their soft reopen night for 2015 Season. New Chef introduced and a new menu. Several different entree's were ordered and the entire appetizer menu was tasted. Everything was good!!! Everything was Fresh! Timing was a bit off with servers but nothing too tragic. So, Walker's Bluff is more like a compound - with a winery, general store, restaurant, and tasting room, even a wine cave, all in separate buildings. Some serious money has been thrown into this place, so it's quite surprising in size/luxury for So, IL. Definitely don't skip the General Store! My daughter and I went here on a Sunday afternoon. The service was very slow and inefficient. We had to ask for flatware, and when we did, the server gave us the stink eye. We would have had another wine or drink, but nobody came to the table. We had a chicken sandwich, which was nothing special, and the mushroom bruschetta, which was, well, I don't know what it was. Sort of a Texas toast bread, toasted but not crunchy, and large chunks of mushrooms with a flavorless sauce. No way it was a finger food. The bartender offered wine samples, but never served them. We were two of four people at the bar, and had to ask for service. The only reason this is a 2 star instead of a 1 star is because of the fries. They were awesome. Legends at Walker's Bluff. An impressive name for a terrible dining experience. As new comers to this much heard about affair, we arrived with excited eyes and hungry bellies. Only to walk out the same. What started out as a birthday celebration for one culinary professional, quickly turned into a morning of disappointment. We arrived at Legends and made our way through the impressive entrance to the hostess stand. Very polite and friendly, the girl showed us our seats, informed us of our wine and dessert menus, and that out server would be right with us. That was the end of our good time at Legends. With only three other tables, a family of four, the stereotypical business men, and even the well off gentleman with his wanna be "desperate housewife" all enjoying their dining experience as we ourselves once hoped to enjoy. This was when the waiting game began. A gaggle of servers, grouped in a corner around the bar laughing, conversing, and socializing amongst themselves, not a care in the world. Come to find out (after we leave) the only option was the breakfast buffet, so all they have to do is clear plates from tables and smile pretty. We were nay-informed of said buffet, never asked for drinks, and I really had my eyes on the Apple Pie Mojito. But, no not a single person came to our table in 20 minutes, at which point we decided to give five more minutes before we left. And so, the servers just continue to stand and stare at us, eye to eye, making new comers feel out of place and unwelcome. Not one single server ever came to our table, or even say "Hello" during our 30 minute wait. For a restaurant opening at 11 am, a breakfast buffet exclusive menu on Sunday seems a little under rated and out of place. Im sure if we had been offered the buffet it would of been amazing, but at twelve o'clock I'm not (usually) in the mood for any kind of breakfast. Enthusiastic about new foods prepared in exciting ways, we were ready to see a menu! After another, most gracious, ten minutes we gave up and walked out. Hoping to find a manager or even the hostess on our way out, the only option we had was the valet. Professional and apologetic they asked if we required managerial action, or any other way to assist. We took information about online serveys but YELP was the most noticable, reputable, and fastest was to voice our opinion and experience at Walker's Bluff today. Needless to say our group outtings will need to be elsewhere in the future. With the prices we saw on the wine list ($30-$700) there is little doubt in my mind that a regular customer in such an establishment would be a great thing and bring plenty of revenue to the business. I myself have several culinarian friends and professionals yearning for higher dinning and classier evenings, but it seems it really is impossible to find in southern Illinois. Went to Legends for Sunday brunch (they rolled out a new brunch menu). It was pricey, but pretty much worth it in my opinion. The atmosphere was quite nice, reserved but not boring. The waiter was attentive and not smothering. I took my SO there and we got a great table where we had some privacy and could talk easily. Food was delicious. For the two of us it was just over $30 before tip -- included large entrees, salad, and dessert. It may be a little crazier other Sunday, I don't know. We went at 12:30. The atmosphere is fantastic. It is a beautiful place to go. Legends is comfortable and always well decorated. Appetizers we've had were first rate. The drink and wine menu superb. Most entrees are unique and wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the Maytag Chicken and the Salmon. However. They don't have a clue how to prepare steaks. On 3 different occasions one of us have ordered steak, always rare. Each time it came well done, even the replacement was Medium Rare at best. One time they even argued with us about it. The chef actually came out to our table and answered the questions helping the guests in our group find a delicious meal for them that they were able to eat following their dietary restrictions.
