This is my favorite breakfast place in Carbondale. Must come early! Only open till 2pm. The wait is fairly long to get a table. Creative egg dishes, omelettes, midwestern frittatas, burritos,pancakes ( even Mickey Mouse pancakes for the little people ) , salads, sandwiches and more. The decor reminds me of grandmas house with the mismatched dishes, coffee mugs, tables and chairs. The staff is friendly and greet you as you walk into the diner! read more

One of the best breakfast spots in this college town. I love the decor and there fact that their is no rhyme to their reason. Coffee cups are collected from all over. Nothing matches, that's what makes this place unique. Their food id wonderfully delicious, especially the sausage gravy and biscuits. Portions are large and prices very fair. read more

Heard the buzz about this place and had to check it out after landing here from Chicago. A kitschy little diner, a bit eclectic and I like these kind of places. Came alone on a Sunday morning and just picked a table and my waitress was there within a minute or two. I liked that they had water at the table as not all diners supply this anymore. Food came pretty fast and it was very good. Pancakes and scrambled eggs with bacon. Unlimited coffee. I will be back and check it out if you are in town. Highly recommended. read more

Eggs Benedict is always consistently good. Eggs are cooked perfect. Sauce is tasty and light. So fun to come on a Saturday morning and have a mimosa. Love the mismatched chairs and coffee cups. read more

Went for breakfast with local and remote relatives on an SIU visit. Homespun diner decor, excellent food choices for breakfast. Our large party could not fit in the front dining room, so the hostess set us up in the other room where we had plenty of space. Good food, nice people and funky interior. Great! read more

Harbaughs gets 5 stars because where else and how often do you find a cafe like this? The decor is about as random as it comes. It's cash only, but they have an ATM, so stop belly aching! If you are charging breakfast on a credit card you shouldn't be eating out! Your coffee mug could come from yesterday's garage sale. The chairs are from grandmas attic, aunt Betty's kitchen, and Uncle Stuart's garage. Same with the tables. It's hilariously awesome. My daughter ordered the stuffed French toast with potatoes and eggs. I had fried eggs, potatoes and fruit. It was delicious. Coffee was hot. Water was iced and cold. Service was fast sand friendly. And the old guys sitting behind us talking about the daily news is exactly what we expected. They are regulars. I can see why! read more

This cafe is wonderful!!! Our college son suggested it when we came down to move him out of SIU (it's right by campus) and everything we had was YUM. My daughter's Reuben was top notch and the rest of got breakfast... my Mexican burrito had chorizo, eggs, jalapeños, and topped with salsa and sour cream. Their ranch potatoes are really good and each plate had fresh fruit. Check them out... you have zero regrets! read more

You know when you want to go to a local hidden gem and just see if it is a hit or miss? HUGE HIT! I even went outside of my comfort zone and got the vegetarian sandwich, the "Earthquake" and I am pretty sure I have a new favorite sandwich! It is loaded down with veggies and it is so delicious!!! Very fulfilling!!! Then I got the ranch potatoes which were good and the fruit is a nice slice of watermelon and cantaloupe. So, so good! The atmosphere is so mellow and inviting. I attended SIU (the university in town) for 4 years and absolutely loved going to Harbaugh's for breakfast! They have a unique interior and great food at great prices! You can be in and out in under 30 minutes, it is insane. If there's a wait (since they are usual my busy) you can expect to be seated very quickly. They have everything here I look forward to finding in a small town. I took my server Aubrey's recommendation and enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. Unfortunately I was only in town for the Murphysboro bbq competition. I only wish I would have stopped in yesterday too. That bowl of cereal at Super 8 just didn't cut it. Top-shelf menu all the way around--great sandwiches, great eggs and omelets, and the best blueberry pancake you'll eat. (FYI--it's the size of a dinner plate.) The atmosphere is eclectic and cozy and definitely has the hometown vibe, and the service is reliably good. This is the second time I've eaten there. The first time was great. Good food and very friendly service. The second time was still very friendly service and a great atmosphere, but my banana walnut pancake was awful! I had this the first time I went there and it was the best I'd ever had. Fluffy and very flavorful. This time, however it was flat, greasy and it tasted like it had too much baking soda in it. I politely asked about it and was told that the batter was old and they were making a new batch. After waiting a short period, I was presented with another flat, greasy looking pancake and after a few bites couldn't taste a difference in the "fresh" batter. This time, however, the pancake came to me on a dirty plate that was literally covered in dirt and hair. I hadn't noticed until I'd already eaten a few bites. Yuck! I brought this to the attention of the manager and waitress, who both readily agreed with me. There was more dirt, fuzz/hair underneath the pancake. They waved my bill in hopes that I'd return. I probably will, but if I get bad food again, I won't give the cook a chance to be vendictive. I'll simply leave and never go back! read more

We stopped in for breakfast around 8:30ish on Sunday; plenty of tables available and we were seated immediately. Super friendly service and really great with the recommendations on their offerings. I tried the french toast - not a risky option but it was really delicious. My co-diners did things like pancakes, omelets, eggs, etc. Everyone enjoyed their food; no complaints at the table.
