Bonnie Cafe was more magical than Bonnie Bennett, and if you've ever been to Mystic Falls you know how powerful a Bennett witch is!! Stopped in for breakfast the day after thanksgiving, which I *think* may have also been opening day of some hunting season or other and there was a large crowd (we stood out as the only ones not wearing blaze orange) but we didn't have a wait to be seated and we received good quick service. Well, you can't beat the great prices and service but the fried chicken wasn't really hot and my white meat chicken was dry. The green beans and banana cake were good as was the coffee but the mashed potatoes not so much. Nice little diner tucked just a few miles off the interstate in a town of about 450 people. For a Saturday, it seemed to be the main pull for the locals, larger than you might expect for a diner. There was plenty of seating and plenty of helpful staff. Though I am told they are known for their burgers, we opted for something a little more unique, a haystack. The haystack was a plate of has browns topped with your choice of sausage patties or bacon (I opted for the sausage), two biscuits, smothered in gravy, and topped with two eggs cooked to your liking. Everything tasted exactly as you expect from a diner; a little greasy, a tad bit salty, overall deliciousness. The portion size was perfect for a grown man, I cleaned my plate but was not overly stuffed, probably should have saved room for pie. We also had the friend chicken special. The batter complemented the chicken, well seasoned, not dry yet not overly juicy either, a tad on the salty side, but I don't mind that. The drumstick looked a little smaller that what you might expect, about the side of a wing drumette, but tasted good. The meal was served with two sides, but the French fries (I got the seasoned) counted as two sides, which was fine with me. They were delightfully crispy and well seasoned. The prices defiantly reflected a small town diner. Nearly everything was under $10 for the entrees, the burgers and sandwiches ranged from $3 to $7, so reasonable to take the whole family without breaking the bank. Staff was friend and food was served quickly. We were in and out in a little over 30 minutes. Looking forward to trying more of their menu the next time we drive through the area. read more

Stoped in for dinner around 5pm they had all you can eat chicken so both me and my wife ordered that Plate come out and first off they messed my potato's up went to eat my chicken and it was cold and tuff like shoe leather and the pieces were so small like pigeon wings and and legs and potatoes were cold and tasted like day old instant. SO GOOD!! If you like down home country cafes as I do, make sure to stop by if you are anywhere close on your way through to or from St. Louis. So I grew up in the country in Central MO and am picky about country down home cooking type cafes. This one reminds me of potluck dinners at my Grandmas house on the farm with great sides from my Aunts. Ate here on the way back through MO with some of my family. I had the smoked pork chops with potato salad and spaghetti salad, my brother had the fried catfish dinner and my mom had a pork steak sandwich. I tried the catfish and it was very well prepared, crispy on the outside and tender inside with a good and tasty flavor and not greasy. My smoked pork shop was delicious with amazing potato salad. Really the only things they didn't knock out of the park on was the spagetti salad and corn bread. My spaghetti salad was good though not great - too much italian dressing for my taste and the corn bread was also just good and not great. The fried chicken and bbq pork steak also looked great but alas I won't get to try it. read more

This place is a very nice, quaint restaurant. They have the absolute best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Like any other business, if they get busy, you do get forgotten. It's a family owned and run place. It makes me feel like I'm back in the old days. Everyone there seems to know everyone that comes in. They take the time to remember your name. They make sheet cakes on what northern folks use as cookie sheets, and they're incredible! I never got to experience their white pie, but I hear it's the best. It's not fancy by any means, but since you're not eating the light fixtures, that shouldn't matter. It's a down to earth, best fried chicken place you're ever going to find this side of heaven. I'm sure the rest of their menu is great as well. They also have the best Brown gravy. The one in Bonnie, il is better than the one at the airport, by far. It's good food there at the airport as well, but for a quaint dining experience, head to Bonnie Cafe in Bonnie, IL. You won't be disappointed. read more

I stopped here because of Yelp reviews. It is everything the reviewers said it was, good food, low prices, and great service. Very much a hometown restaurant. The waitress was very helpful and when I told her that it was my first time there, she pointed out the "all you can eat" specials on the board. and told me they were known for their hamburgers. I started to order a double burger and she said, "Oh no, you don't want to do that. Each patty is 10 ounces!" She also pointed out which fries were cut from "real potatoes" and which were frozen. You've heard about inhaling food? Well- my son was no slouch with his B&G. Hubs ordered the haystack- an embarrassingly large mountain of breakfast vittles. He cut into his over easy egg on top and it was like the yolk just knew without thinking how to spread like icing on a cake. Waffles! Buttery explosions of delicious in my mouth. So good I ate half of them without syrup. And sausage as a side that tastes so good you know the name of the pig that died to give you breakfast. Home fries! I'm fairly certain these were deep fried in an illegal substance the way my stepdaughter looked while she was eating them. There may be a lesson on sharing coming up in her future. The staff is amazing and very friendly. They make sure you are well fed and happy. I would say they took care of me like my own mother- but she would have made me clean the dishes- so "better than my own mom" is more like it. The place is located about 5- 10 minutes off interstate 57- but if you are on a roadtrip headed south, just jump on the exit to HWy 37. After breakfast it's a short jump back to 57. One small note to the owners- the men's bathroom door didn't close. May want to check that soon before you really get to know your male customers. Never was asked if we wanted a refill drinks. The food was awful. I've had MUCH better. The biscuit and gravy was probably the worse B&G I've ever had. I also know there's are other locations for this restaurant other than just in Bonnie. I wonder if those are any better. read more

The West Frankfort location needs a few more cooks to keep up with the demand of the busy crowds. The owner could use a lesson in apology techniques. When you wait an hour for cold food, I know more than a tiny discount is in order. I was told that her attitude makes it hard to keep employees. My cousin loves this place. I don't. The black eyed peas were the best thing on the plate. The pork steak was small and the BBQ sauce was from a bottle. If you grew up in a trailer court and your mother feed you slop bought from Aldis and you have never experienced real good food this is the place for you. The store bought chocolate cake was average. Such a great find on our travel south! The food was very reasonably priced. Portions were huge and the food was delicious! The service was impeccable. One waitress serviced the entire restaurant while we were there. He was shot out drink orders to all the locals as they walked in while she prepared them. We never had to ask for a refill she was on it! Very friendly, small town restaurant. I highly recommend getting off of I-57 and making your way to this restaurant if you're traveling.
