Bonnie Cafe was more magical than Bonnie Bennett, and if you've ever been to Mystic Falls you know how powerful a Bennett witch is!! Stopped in for breakfast the day after thanksgiving, which I *think* may have also been opening day of some hunting season or other and there was a large crowd (we stood out as the only ones not wearing blaze orange) but we didn't have a wait to be seated and we received good quick service. Large haystack is ridiculous big - layers of hash browns and biscuits and gravy and eggs and sausage. Mad fluffy pancakes. Great French toast. Well seasoned ribeye steak that smacks yo taste buds and holla "wake up fool!"

Nice little diner tucked just a few miles off the interstate in a town of about 450 people. For a Saturday, it seemed to be the main pull for the locals, larger than you might expect for a diner. There was plenty of seating and plenty of helpful staff. Though I am told they are known for their burgers, we opted for something a little more unique, a haystack. The haystack was a plate of has browns topped with your choice of sausage patties or bacon (I opted for the sausage), two biscuits, smothered in gravy, and topped with two eggs cooked to your liking. Everything tasted exactly as you expect from a diner; a little greasy, a tad bit salty, overall deliciousness. The portion size was perfect for a grown man, I cleaned my plate but was not overly stuffed, probably should have saved room for pie. We also had the friend chicken special. The batter complemented the chicken, well seasoned, not dry yet not overly juicy either, a tad on the salty side, but I don't mind that. The drumstick looked a little smaller that what you might expect, about the side of a wing drumette, but tasted good. The meal was served with two sides, but the French fries (I got the seasoned) counted as two sides, which was fine with me. They were delightfully crispy and well seasoned. The prices defiantly reflected a small town diner. Nearly everything was under $10 for the entrees, the burgers and sandwiches ranged from $3 to $7, so reasonable to take the whole family without breaking the bank. Staff was friend and food was served quickly. We were in and out in a little over 30 minutes. Looking forward to trying more of their menu the next time we drive through the area.

Stopped in with Momma while home visiting her. Thank you for being handicap accessible. Always good to go to a local place and see familiar faces. (Nice to see you Melissa.) Food was plentiful and great. I can't seem to find good catfish too easily in Colorado, so my catfish fillets for lunch were a treat. I'll plan to stop in again the next time I'm home.

We stopped here while traveling through. I wanted fried chicken but they didn't serve it on Friday's so I decided on the BLT. It was decent. The staff was friendly and it felt like such a small town restaurant.

When visiting Highland and Aviston, Illinois we passed by The Chocolate Affairs shop while leaving the 9th Street Cafe. We couldn't help ourselves from noticing the young owner Jen busy wheeling away carts of fresh chocolate-covered strawberries to the town's Art Festival. We went inside and were surrounding by tons of little knick-knacks, crafts, souvenirs, and of course, sweets! One of the four rooms is dedicated specifically as the "Candy Room." Caramel pecan patties, real butter creams, hand dipped caramels and chocolate potato chips, to name a few! I enjoyed the chocolate covered toffee with peanuts. Mmm mmm! They also rent out chocolate fountains for your next event. As for the bed and breakfast...It's a historic house built in 1914 by Dr. Tibbetts. The house accommodates guests with 3 bedrooms, each having its own private baths and theme (Angel, Quilt and Blue Rooms). Guests also have full use of a parlor, dining room, kitchen and deck. The best part is you can enjoy chocolate chip cookies and refreshments on arrival, chocolate gift baskets in the bedrooms and a sample from the chocolate case overnight! Continental Breakfast is the Chocolate Lovers Special featuring Triple Chocolate Mess Cake and Chocolate Covered Strawberries. What more could a chocolate lover dream of?!?! I can't wait to spend the night here during my next visit!
