The Brandon burger didn't come with fries or a size.

I would have given 5 stars if our server would have been Savanna. We are not even from this state. We have never been here before. They need a sign saying seat yourself. I stood there intill the table next to me told to to pick a table. Our waitress not sure of her name. She appeared frustrated to everyone. The table next to me was a guy and 2 girls. The waitress got his order wrong. Then she said I'll get them to start yours again. He said no they just got their food. When my comes come they will be done which is so true. So he sat and watched them eat. Our server was his. When he said no she said ok and walked off. I could go on. It's just a shame because this place has great service. Thanks to the young girl being a better server. She kept coming to our table to take up slack. We didn't even have to wave at her etc.

We love finding good local places on road trips. This one is fantastic. Good diner and comfort food. Super friendly staff. It's 6 miles off the highway and definitely worth the short drive. Pretty unassuming on the outside. Don't let that scare you if you want a burger loaded with pulled pork and bacon or all the fried chicken you can eat.

Worth the drive to the Lantern Pub. It is an institution in the heart of Ashley, Illinois. Best food around.

It's as good as it always has been. My family has been coming here for thirty years. While the decor may have changed over the years, the commitment to excellent food at very reasonable prices has not. Where else can you get a $5 lunch special comprised of a large marinated pork chop, peas, potato bake, dinner roll and cupcake? The list could go on and on. The Lantern Pub is real food made by real people in small town USA. Stop by. It is worth the detour and then some.

It's 2:23 pm and we just walked in stood for about 5 minutes, could hear people talking in the back, watched a woman with gray hair push a cart through the dining room but no one ever greeted us. How long are you supposed to stand in someone's establishment without being greeted before you leave? And by the other reviews if THIS is the nicest place in town, I'm glad we're looking for something else. You had your chance Jerry!

I decided to have the large shrimp and crab salad. The serving was presented, and I was overwhelmed at the volume of it. The shrimp and crab both were chilled and fresh. Lettuce, boiled egg, cheese, tomato, onion, radish, and carrot filled the large bowl. For my dressing I used an Italian spiced vinaigrette that was delightful. The pricing of the Dish met to my satisfaction. However, the service and camaraderie was one of the main reasons I visit Jerry's. They make you feel welcome and provide an enjoyable ambience within their professional environment. I was deeply satisfied, as always.

Its nt the decor or the location that gt 5ive stars. Its the great steaks and attentive friendly service. Very local vibe, people seemed to know each other and the staff was very chatty. Maybe a little too much because we ahd to keep flagging our waitress down who seemed a bit scattered. But still she was very nice. Other staff members checked on us several times so we were never lacting in anything. The stake I ordered (medium rare) which I always order came out very rare. If it was a little more done I would not have said anything. But someone from the kitchen stopped by the table and asked if I was ahppy with the tempature. I was nice about it and said, well not really, this seems very rare to me, not medium rare. WIthout complain he quickly took the stake on a side dish leaving the rest of myt meal to enjoy. Teo minutes laters a perfectly medium rare stake came out with a bit of char on the outside, hot and pink while still juicy inside. And it was a very good, very thick streak. Honestly I had wished I'd ordered a large cut. ANd isn't a great steak your looking for when going to a steakhouse?

The restaurant is obviously a local favorite spot as many other patrons were greeted by name by staff or other diners. We seated ourselves in a booth, of which circles the rest of the room with several tables down the middle. Service was quick, sweet tea for me, not often found in Illinois dining, but perfectly done for this southern girl. Hubby was just as happy with his unsweet tea. The homemade vegetable soup was warm, thick with vegetables, even some cabbage, midst the creamy broth. My hand-presses cheeseburger was as delectable as any, and would have been perfect if tomatoes were in season and carried more flavor. But the lettuce was crisp, the onion sharp, and the pickles crunchy. Hubby has a tossed salad and the catfish dinner. The fish was cooked in cornmeal, a real "down home" dish, plenty of it and plenty of flavor. Hush puppies were delicious, but not enough of them. Then, we both ordered dessert even though we knew we couldn't finish them: strawberry cake and a lemon crème pie. Out of this world! The price was reasonable for the excellent food and service, even in these days of austerity. We definitely intend to return to The Grille!
