Went to Kathy Nail & Spa to have them remove my gel polish previously done elsewhere and to get shellac nails. The whole process took less than 1 hr but the results were great! I even got a complimentary emery board to help me remove my own shellac nails at home (the nail tech found it quite funny how I tried to remove the gel polish at home and failed) ! Overall I would recommend this place for anyone who wants something simple and quick. I went early in the morning on Friday and there were lots of nail techs available. My overalls mani cost me $35 (removed old gel polish and shellac set). They offer other services but I just stick to their mani and pedi :) read more

Ok so I came in for a mani pedi today with a friend of mine. Let me just say how terrible of an experience I had. First off I called to make an appointment the night before and no one answered the phone. So I decided to show up early morning the next day to see if they were able to take in walk ins. When we got there, only two other people were having their pedicures done and the there weeds about 4 staff members just sitting there waiting for customers like us to come through the doors. They asked us what we wanted to get done and told us to pick colors for our feet and hands. I had mentioned I only wanted shellac for my hands and not my toes and my friend said she did not want any gel or shellac just a simple manicure with regular nail polish for both toes and hands. They tried to push us and kept forcing us to get gel done and in the end we had to make it clear we were not Interested and to do exactly what we came in for. Despite that they still kept asking why we didn't want gel on our feet and then proceeded to ask if we wanted designs and we had to say no to that as well. It seemed like they weren't happy with our choices. They just wanted us to spend more money. On top of that they didn't even give us a proper chance to look through colors to make a proper decision and felt like they were hovering over us. Overall they just rushed us through the whole experience and my shellac nails look as if they were painted by my 5 year old cousin. I really think they need to re-evaluate the staff's customer service and maybe stop treating customers like stupid people who don't know better when they walk through the door. I've been looking for a decent place to do my nails and I recently went here as I came across it when I was searching. It's pretty decent with a friendly atmosphere and the place is clean. To start, the service was pretty good in that they were still pretty on it even though they were helping a few other customers. I believe they are mostly Mandarin-speaking but we were able to converse with them fine in English and they were pretty friendly too. The girls helping us took their time to do our nails thoroughly and to the way we wanted them. Nothing was missed and they were very detailed trying to be perfect withe everything. I say detailed because i decided to get some nail stickers and they were being careful and exact, measuring certain stickers to check the length and making sure it was consistent with the rest of the nails. Placing it on my nail was another story too! I actually had 3 girls trying to help put the stickers on because they kept ripping since it was really small and thin. Overall I think this place was decent. Ot was clean and had some nice options. I don't do my nails often so I can't compare to the more popular places but I can say I was satisfied. Will probably go back again. I had a manicure with shellac nails done and nail art; in total it costed me $40! read more

Zero stars. My daughter booked us appts on Mothers Day for teh same time so we could be done together. When we arrived they started her and left me to sit. After one estitian was done she went to do another clients nails who was getting a pedicure leaving me still to wait past my appt time. Another women walked in sat down to get a pedicure and was taken by another estitian, then 2 - i'm still waiting. When i asked if they forgot about me the response was - "Well this women is in a rush" pardon, so her time is more valuable than mine, and you have 4 estitians working on 2 clients and my appt time was 15 mins ago! I've been going here for quite some time now, but switched some time ago because of budget constraints. I absolutely love Jennifer, she's quick, friendly, and honestly if you've never been here before, i highly recommend you set up an appointment with her. However I went the other day to get my nails done, and they only told me after a cheaper option for what I wanted with my nails, even another nail technician sounded as if she was talking down on me for my decision. While thankful for the advice, i wish I heard it before hand and in a nicer tone. My only complaint is how expensive this place is, other than that, if you live near this area, it's not bad to have this place nearby if you want a nice set of nails. read more

These ladies are very friendly. Some of their staff take the time to have a have conversation with you instead of just talking to one another. It is like going to your hairdresser ... Sometimes you just want a conversation. The place feels clean when you walk in. It is not hard to get an appointment and when you show up you don't feel rushed. Prices are reasonable and there is plenty of parking available. They don't have the best selection of colours and are not swanky in appeal. I thought I would get a professional manicure the day before my engagement shoot. Since this place was right across the street from me, it was super convenient. I opted for a regular polish manicure since I generally paint my own nails. It'd be easier for me to remove the polish and repaint my nails at a later time. The manicure itself was very choppy. It wasn't smooth around my nail beds. The whole time I was watching the nail technician paint my nails, I wanted to offer her some pointers on how to get some straight and solid lines. I also got my eyebrows waxed and my original technician wasn't the one that did it. Another woman did my eyebrows while my original technician watched. I'm assuming she was new or something and needed some training on how to wax. I wasn't given any warning. They were just talking in a different language while doing my eyebrows, which made me feel kind of uncomfortable. It would have been nice to have been told they would use me to do some training. If my original nail technician was new, that would explain the mediocrity of my manicure. Fast forward to 12 hours after my manicure, I already had chipped nails. I had chipped nails going into my engagement shoot. Fast forward three days later, all my nails are chipped. The quality of their nail polish or top coat must not be very good because when I paint my own nails with Sally Hansen and then a Seche Vite top coat, my manicures last much, much longer. read more

This was my second visit to Kathy Nail & Spa in Markham. My first was last summer, along with my Mom and Grandmother, to get our nails done for my sister's wedding. We each got a pedicure and nails done. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the massage chairs for the pedicures are always a nice touch. I had gel nails done on my fingers, and the same thing today. I was able to get today's appointment in short notice, an extra bonus since my nails really needed it! Joy, my technician, was nice and also through. I again got a full gel nail set, with a gorgeous rose gold colour. It took about 90 mins, and had a hand/arm massage as well. They have a couple of TVs you can watch while getting things done. My total came to $55, and I am pleased with my nails (they look pretty sweet :). All in all, I'd be back next time I'm in Markham and need a little nail care :) read more

Jennifer at the salon does my nails and she never makes me wait when I have an appointment and she always takes the time to give me what I am looking for in terms of design or amazing suggestions for something new and different. GROSS, FILTHY, DIRTY & HIGHLY UNSANITARY. I went for a pedi only to see floating skin in the foot bath with pieces of foil and long black hair floating in the water. I wanted to run and should have. The knobs on the bath were thick with wet looking scum. I was freaking out. I could NOT see the sanitizing oven for any of the utensils. When the girl was finished she handed her tools off to someone at the sink who simply ran them under the tap water and back they went into a dirt looking tray. Public Health needs to be notified. I ran home, removed the pedi I just paid for and have been 2 weeks soaking my feet in anti bacterial soap and anti fungus soap hoping to avoid any infection. I would not recommend this place. read more
