Customer Service can be described as "assistance and other resources that a company provides to the people who buy or use its products or services." Now, true Customer Service in America is such a rarity that when you find it you have no choice but to latch on and never let go. Miss Kathy is the sweetest, honest, and REAL stylist I've ever allowed to work with my hair. She will book you, remind you, and greet you when you walk through the door. She does not rush and she does not rush you. After she sat me down we discussed what I was looking for (something asymmetrical), my likes and dislikes and about what would look best with my hair. I'm not sure if you noticed but I am a mutt, my hair is naturally curly and thicker than the dictionary!! It's is always necessary to cut it straightened, no way around it. So Kathy washed and conditioned and used the blow dryer, then she used two different flat irons (one regular sized one and one itty bitty baby one for getting close to the roots, both top of the line) and a spray product to straighten every last bit of hair on the top of my head. Then the cutting began :) She used scissors to first get some of the weight off of my hair, then proceeded with a special razor to create the layered look my hair type absolutely needed. And let me say, her work is a work of art. When she was through it was one of those step back, take it all in, and sigh at the beauty of how well the project was executed. Kathy takes pride in her work and it shows! What are the highlights of my visit? #1 Kathy does not juggle clients!! None of this thumb twiddling with gunk in your hair while attending to someone else. All stylists know how long products should be left on, some actually chose to follow those rules. #2 Kathy LISTENS! Imagine that, a hair stylist who actually listens to your hair needs. If there seems to be a misunderstanding she will take a step back and talk to you to clarify so that you get exactly what you asked for. I didn't want a bob and I didn't leave with a bob :) #3 She doesn't rush, I spent almost 4 hours with her and it was so relaxing and reassuring. #4 Privacy! I don't like people gawking at me when I'm in the chair. Her station is in it's own private corner and she can even pull the curtain a bit. After the great reviews on Yelp I went to see Kathy. Everything people say is true, she is friendly and took her time, in a good way. I was disappointed with my haircut though. I have wavy hair that is challenging to cut. I told her how to cut my hair to get the best results. She said she understood but she cut the ends exactly how I told her NOT to. My hair is full and lush. The way she cut it left it looking thin and stringy. I've had to go through and re-trim all the edges myself. Also, the photo I showed her was a bob and the cut she gave me was shorter on the sides, not a bob. She did not discuss that change with me. I think if you have "normal" hair she is a good stylist, just not right for me. I'm disappointed because she was very nice and her shop was relaxed and comfy. My daughter and I started going to Kathy one year ago, right after moving to Benicia. My daughter (15) has gorgeous curls, and I was searching for a stylist who could do them justice. Well let me tell you, Kathy does curls beautifully! One of her great gifts is that she really listens to her clients and she asks a lot of questions. My daughter, based on whim, will vary between wanting longer layers or shorter. Sometimes longer in front.. Sometimes shorter in back.. Sometimes asymmetrical.. Kathy always delivers exactly what she asks for and her curls BOUNCE. I have only had my hair cut twice this year, but both times the cut was perfect. Most recently, I was in having my hair colored. She was working on completely undyed hair. I asked for dark red to be woven into my natural hair color. I did not want large chunks. I just wanted lots of red glints and highlights. I I got exactly what I asked for and could not be more pleased. There is no brassiness anywhere. Its perfect! Next time I think I will bravely ask for some lighter reddish tones to be added in. I walked in to see Kathy over five years ago on the recommendation of a friend. I had boring, unkept, mono-color hair, and she transformed me from the very first appt. After getting colored by her every two months in that time period, I have never been dissapointed. She has a very comfortable and private area in back of the salon, it is always clean and maintained. She really goes out of her way to let you relax while you are there, and her attention is completely focused on listening to what you want and offering suggestion when you aren't sure what exactly that is. Though I absolutely love the cuts she does, she really excels in color. For the amount of time and effort she spends with you, her prices are incredibly reasonable. I drive over an hour to see her, even though I have quite a few friends locally that are stylists. My hair has never looked better, and I will never leave Kathy as long as she's still doing hair. I went back to Kathy to get my hair colored. It came out great, however, the top was a bit lighter than we anticipated, she offered to recolor the top for no charge so I will be returning tomorrow to have that taken care of. Same as last year, Kathy was so pleasant and we had fun chatting for the 3 and a half hours it took for my long hair. She styled it really cute, I hated to just go home and not have any place to show it off! I liked the curling iron she used so she is picking one up for me at her discount, and only charging me what she paid, Kathy does not mark up items she sells to her clients. Her prices are reasonable and she takes her time. Another 5 stars from me and I will be returning later this year. PS - If you visit Kathy for a hair appointment, ask her to show you the restroom in the house. It has the original window from 1855, it's really cool! read more

Another score through yelp! The other reviews about Kathy were spot on, and I'm so glad I chose her! I had my hair and makeup done for a wedding "aftershoot" and just told her a bit about me and my dress when I first got there. I never wear makeup or do my hair so I gave her full control and trusted her opinions. I honestly couldn't be happier! She is so easy to work with and a true professional! The hair and makeup were so spot on with what I would have imagined them to be and she had such great ideas that work great with the structure of my wedding dress. Kathy is a true hairstylist, not just a hair cutter. She spends as much time as it takes to get you the style you want, even on picky teenage boys--I have 3 who just adore her. I have been going to Kathy for over 3 years and have always left feeling and looking great. She is so incredibly knowledgeable about her "craft". She is always looking out for new products and up to date on new techniques and products. Kathy makes me feel confident about what she is doing. I have finally found a hairdresser that is constantly good. Kathy has done my hair three times and every time I have left very pleased. I have my hair highlighted and cut and Kathy takes her time and is very pleasant and down to earth. She loves what she does and it reflects in her work. Kathy continues her education and stays up on the latest hair devices and products. I currently have my hair cut in a bob with layers and I get compliments everyday on it. I came to see Kathy after not being able get into my regular salon. My hair is very straight and I have a lot of hair so it is hard to cut. I also needed roots and highlights done. I was quite worried but Kathy was incredibly kind, asked questions and explained everything she was doing. She also let me know that my color only had to be touched up at the front and saved me money! I absolutely loved my cut and color and left incredibly happy. So everyone knows the hassle and terror that can some times needing to find a new stylist. I've been with my stylist for 11yrs of so there was some trepidation on my part that I needed to get beyond .... Went to Kathy last week to find a new stylist/colorist and I was BEYOND impressed with her skills and knowledge and the way she talks TO you and not AT you(all the while examining my hair tip to end)she explained that my hair was pretty fragile(i knew this) from the previous highlight/color. She did an amazing job! LOVE the color! Everyone has complimented me on it. A couple of days later, I had my 13yr old in for his haircut. We both loved it and I mentioned that I would have liked to had my cut differently instead of the Modified A Line bob and instead would like to wear it off my face more the next time a come in for color but she(same style for years!!) added me in the next morning free of charge and asked me to bring in photos of how I used to wear it. Between the pictures and her skill, I have an awesome current cut! She is now MY stylist and will refer everyone I to her. She is concerned about the integrity of my hair and said "I could do highlights if you want them but I would not do them on your hair" Amazing job and so personable!
