This is when I found Alchemy Hair Collective, specifically FIONA! I made my appointment with her with ease. She texted prior to my appointment and gave me the opportunity to explain my story and provide photos of where I was and where I wanted to go. She responded immediately, "That is something we can fix." The second I stepped foot into Alchemy I LOVED it. The vibe is warm, fun, and inviting. I liked Fiona the second we met. She was awesome! Is there a better word than awesome? SUPER awesome! She talked to me about what I wanted, she studied my hair, she asked me questions, we looked at photos. Her confidence was reassuring. I felt like I was trusting her with my life. We had great conversation and laughs as she worked away putting all of those foils in my hair. After processing, I had a fantastic shampoo and scalp massage. Hope I didn't snore because it sure was relaxing. The woman on the phone was short and slightly obnoxious in that she was almost happy to tell me I would need to reschedule and still pay 100% for my cancellation. I even asked if there was a late fee I could pay or reschedule it and only pay 50% for rescheduling fee since I've been a customer for so long but once again, she sounded happy to tell me no. This review is for both scheduling/communication as well as a quick hair service…read more I was happy to find a salon nearby that was recommended on facebook, so I reached out about getting a bang trim before my upcoming trip. I believe I was speaking with Shelilah. I let her know my past stylist had put my long bangs/face-framing layers on a side part and I wanted it fixed to be more in the middle plus a little bit shorter. I sent her pictures and she quoted me $20 and we set an appointment. The day/time of my appointment, I arrived and texted the business number to let them know I was there. I received a text back saying they had forgotten to put my appointment on the schedule and weren't able to help me that day. They asked to reschedule, which was a bummer since I was leaving that evening for my trip but not the end of the world. We rescheduled for when I got back a week later. The next week, 20min before my appointment, I texted the business number again to confirm I was still coming to my appointment. I got a text back saying the stylist scheduled to take care of me that day had called in sick and no one else was available to help me. It was unclear who I had been scheduled with since I thought I had booked with Shelilah from the beginning. Shelilah asked if i could come in tomorrow instead and she would help me. I was surprised that I wasn't notified that my appointment was canceled. What if I hadn't texted in advance to let them know I was still coming and just showed up?. But again, not the end of the world and Shelilah said the trim would be complimentary. The next day, I got a text a few hours before my appointment asking if i could come in 2 hours early. I said I could do that and I arrived for my service. I felt I was treated as a nuisance/chore during my visit. I spent maybe five minutes in the chair, and when I was unsure I was happy about how the trim looked, Shelilah let me know anything more would be considered a full hair cut. After that remark I got up and left. I would have tipped if I had felt happy with the service but I ended up feeling unwelcome. When I got home and looked at my bangs in the mirror, they looked choppy and uneven. I texted pictures of my hair to a friend of mine who is also a hair stylist and she ended up fixing them for me. If she lived closer I would have gone with her in the first place, because wow they look so much better now! I was hoping to have found a great salon in my area that I would return to for future appointments, but the lack of customer service and poor cut made me not want to go back. I'm sure other stylists there are good, but I will be looking elsewhere since Shelilah is the owner and I had a poor experience with her. I would have preferred they let me know they weren't wanting to do such a small service rather than taking me and making me feel like a bother. I feel no matter how small the service you should treat every customer like they are important.

This review is for my Rock Starr hair stylist Starr Safa. I have been seeing Starr for almost two years now ever since my last stylist relocated to another state. I am always hesitant to try new stylists because of bad experiences I've had in the past. However, Starr came very highly recommended by a very close friend of mine whom I trust and she also knows how very picky I am about my hair. I knew Starr was the perfect fit for me on my first appointment! Her salon is super cute and welcoming. I immediately felt comfortable with her because of her warm smile and easygoing disposition. She asked a lot of questions to make sure she understood what I really wanted and I appreciate that she gave me her HONEST feedback. It was like talking to an old friend I've known forever, even though it was my first visit. I love the fact that she only books one client at a time! This allows her to give you the one on one attention you deserve. I also feel that it creates less opportunity for mistakes because there are not too many things going on at once. I do not like sitting for long periods of time so I truly appreciate the fact that she gets you in, out and back to your busy life schedule looking like a million bucks! I have since referred her to several family and friends and they are all just as happy with her services as I am. I completely trust her knowledge, expertise and attention to detail and I refuse to go anywhere else! Thank you Starr for making me feel like a celebrity every time I walk out of your salon! read more

I have been a client of Starr's for at least 12 years. She was working for other salons when she first started doing my hair and I have followed her all over Benicia which speaks to her talent at what she does. It has been a pleasure to watch her grow professionally. It can be difficult to find a stylist who leaves you completely satisfied and that is why I continue to return. Starr is creative, a color specialist and a great listener so when I say "just trim the ends" - I'm not getting inches chopped off as in past experiences with other salons. Sometimes I come in and don't really know what I want. Without hesitation she will have a vision from - cut to color. Sometimes when I call for an appointment she will say she has thought of a certain cut or color. What a luxury to not even have to think sometimes. I can just come in, get pampered and leave satisfied. The last time I was there she wanted to do a cut that was shorter than normal. She said " do you trust me"? I thought about it for a second and responded "completely". If you can say that - you need to stay with whoever you're with. I know I am. Bada Bing is clean, classy and a reflection of Starr herself. From the zen feeling in the shampoo room, the decor of the salon and the green tea and basil hand soap in the bathroom - Starr and her salon are a class act. read more

I have been enjoying Bada Bing Salon since it opened in 2006. The salon is small and intimate, with big mirrors and good natural light. The owner Starr, stocks it with great products (I am in love with the Agadir Argon Oil which, smells fantastic and makes my hair soft and shiny), cool jewelry, scarves, tees, and very reasonable prices. Kimberly Thorn is my regular stylist and she keeps my hair current and flattering. Plus, easy for me to replicate. VERY IMPORTANT, being able to get the salon look yourself, at home! I am always well cared for and Kim has even come in on an evening of her day off to accomadate me after a family crisis. Starr and Tracy have both done my hair in times of need (scheduling conflicts, illness/surgery) and I would not hesitate to have them again, as well as, Omar the newest stylist to join Bada Bing Salon. The ambiance is perfect for relaxing, reading, visiting. I have referred several friends to this down to earth yet edgy salon and would not hesitate to recommend it and any of their stylists in the future. read more

Starr is absolutely amazing! I had recently had my hair done elsewhere and was NOT happy..I saw all the positive feedback from clients of Starr and so I decided to call in and see what can be done to make me feel beautiful again... and what a sweetheart she is! With her busy schedule she took the time to squeeze me in right away for a fix ( as I was planning on going out of town the following weekend) She listened to my every concern, explained step by step what she was doing, took care of all the gray hairs that the previous hairstylist left behind... and fixed the completely orange tone I had. Not only just fixing the color she made sure she kept my hair as healthy as possible and gave me many awesome pointers to keep it that way! Starr also turned my lifeless, dull and damaged hair into one that had shine and body to it! Thank you Starr so much for taking the time to see me and making me AND my hair as happy as can be. Looking forward to coming back next week and getting my daughters hair cut. :) read more

I have been getting my hair cut, colored, and styled from Starr, the owner of Bada Bing Salon for the last 4 years. My hair doesn't frizz anymore in bad weather and it makes my hair completely silky shiny! love entering in her salon it is always so very clean, she always has an amazing line of products to choose from. I just got my hair done today and went from very platinum blonde to a dark blonde/light brown color and it looks AMAZING! I have been a client of Starr's since 2002. I had admired a friend's beautiful haircolor and sassy cut, and when she told me that Starr was her hairdresser, I made my next appointment with her. Over the years Starr has always impressed me with her skill with color, how she listens to my concerns and requests, and provides excellent professional advice and service. Another point I'd like to make is that Starr has continually sought professional development in her field, regularly attending hair shows in New York City, learning the latest techniques and trends. I appreciate her passion for her work, and her willingness to continually improve her practice. Plus, she's a great listener, and has been a great person to share a lot of laughs with. read more

I went to Bado Bing Salon in Benicia today because my long time hairstylist and friend Daya Birnbaum is now doing my tresses there. When I first walked in I was greeted by a super cozy waiting room. Then I walked into the main salon, where the action happens. It was delightful! I sat in Daya's chair and she did a deep conditioning maintenance on my Keratin Smoothing Treatment.
