Over $200 for a root touchup and a partial haircut. I got home and half my hair isn't even colored and every time I go there my hair up looking like Edward Scissorhands cut it. I would save your money and research other salons if you are new to the area. read more

These are the *after* pictures from my root touch up at Citrus Salon. They were taken when I first sat down in the chair at a different salon I had to go to in order to get this fixed! Disclaimer - I believe I accidentally booked the wrong service at Citrus (well in advance though, with a note about what I would like to achieve so I feel like maybe someone could have tried to correct this before confirming my appointment). I am a brunette who has dyed my hair blonde for years and never touched it with box dye. This should have been such a basic service. I came in as a first time client and was told there would only be time to do some of my roots. That's not something I had really heard of before and it didn't sound like a good idea, but I felt pressured into going through with it. I really wish I hadn't. The right thing to do would have been to ask me to come back when they had time to actually do my hair. I really feel like I was pushed into going through with this fake service so that I didn't walk out the door without paying. Separate from the weirdness of only doing some of my dark roots, my hair had yellow and blue spots when I walked out the door. And all of this cost nearly $200. I sent the salon a kindly worded email asking for my money back because my hair is objectively worse off than when I came in. I was told they'd redo it at no charge. As you can imagine, I didn't really feel comfortable coming back to the same place where I just had this experience. I asked for my money back. I haven't heard back from them, so I'm writing this review, really hoping they see these photos and do the right thing. I have been visiting Citrus and seeing Karalynne for nearly a year now and she is incredible! I am very particular about my hair and always hesitant to try someone new, however she has exceeded my expectations! I hadn't had a haircut in over a year, and walking into a salon after that long was honestly intimidating. I was nervous about being judged or rushed but Caryn was absolutely amazing. From the very beginning, she was patient, kind, and incredibly thoughtful. She took the time to really listen, asked questions to understand what I wanted, and most importantly wanted to understand my lifestyle so she could recommend a cut that actually made sense for me. I never felt rushed or dismissed, just genuinely cared for. The salon itself was just as welcoming. As soon as I walked in, there was a sign welcoming new clients and my name was on it. That small touch immediately made me feel at ease and seen. After going so long without a haircut, this experience was exactly what I needed. I left feeling confident, comfortable, and so glad I trusted Caryn. I will definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend her to anyone who's been putting off a haircut or feeling nervous about going in. read more

I have a lot of respect for this salon and the effort they have put into trying to make things right for me. They have moxie and integrity. A lot of salons would have given up a long time ago and told me to go somewhere else without caring how I felt. NOT Citrus Salon. The salon reached back out to me after this review and I went back in and met with a stylist named Sydney. She asked me to go over what had happened and asked me exactly what I was looking for. She was very open, understanding and easy to talk to and I feel that she genuinely understood me. She told me she did not want to bleach my hair right then as it had already been bleached 3 times before that. So she offered me a full refund and told me she would like to make me an appointment for the future. I took her up on that and made the appointment. I just went and saw her about 5 days ago and I am so happy with the result. She executed exactly what I wanted perfectly and it was nice to speak with her at the same time. Sydney really seems to understand hair and knows exactly how to get the results a client is looking for. I told her I lowered expectations and that I was just going to accept the result and she laughed. She has a good sense of humor. When she blow dried my hair and I saw the final color and result I was SO blown away, relieved and HAPPY!! Anyways, I am so impressed by this salon and the people who work there, especially Sydney who absolutely went above and beyond and took a chance that a lot of people would not dare to take because of the possibility of it not working out again. Sydney knew she could fix it and she absolutely did. Also, No hard feelings to the previous stylists. I hope they understand why I wrote the review and that I do appreciate the efforts and it is nothing personal. I am so happy that I have found someone to do my hair from now on. This is a great salon and has been a long standing establishment in downtown Martinez. I remember coming to see one of the stylists here when they were much smaller and occupied a smaller space across the street many years ago. Well, I recently had a baby and wanted to try something new. Honestly, just wanted to be excited about looking in the mirror again ( ever get like that?). So I came in and asked for a balayage. The stylist worked really hard ( I have very long, very thick curly hair) and she gave me a balayage. But to be honest, seeing my dark hair so light and in a brassy color seemed shocking. I decided to wait it out and see if it would grow on me. But one wash later, I already noticed my hair getting even lighter and freaked out. I called the salon panicked and nearly in tears. They were very kind and offered to darken my hair again the next day. I was very appreciative, as I was about to go buy some boxed dye and color is black again. Sadly, my hair does not look any different than when I started ( except the damage from the bleach). But I guess I just needed this experience to realize how much I like my natural hair. read more

Since my last review 6 years ago, Citrus continues to provide a 5-star experience! I've seen a handful of stylists here over the years and have never been disappointed with my hair or the interactions. How does Citrus find the most fun and fabulous folks? The most practical improvement since my last review is the straightforward online booking system. There is a variety of pricing options available and everything is clearly listed. This month (August) is Guest Appreciation month so my visit included some fun perks like spinning the Citrus Appreciation Wheel for a prize, a raffle, and a seasonal cocktail/mocktail. They recently added a stamp card, Club Citrus, to the guest experience as well with a complementary blow out upon completion. So fun! I appreciate that this salon goes above and beyond to serve their community. read more

I love going to Citrus for my hair cuts and deep conditioning. It's always been a good experience. The stylists are experienced and knowledgeable and it's just an overall good vibe. On Tuesday, my stylist was Crystal. While she is new to the salon, she is obviously not new to the business. She was so welcoming and gave me exactly what I wanted. Crystal is a true professional. I left the salon feeling pampered and upbeat--and I am already looking forward to my next visit with her, which I made sure to book while I was there. read more

WOW! What a shock....Went to my appointment a few minute early only to find the appointed stylist (the manager) was not in the salon. They were "stuck" in the Beaverton traffic. So I chatted with the woman at the desk for twenty minutes while she received text messages from the delayed owner of the salon... after waiting twenty minutes I left to be on time for my meeting. This is a salon that requires you "pay in advance". I've been in that traffic and it can be excruciating. That said, the woman "stuck" in traffic lives over that way and knows how bad is the traffic. Today they sent me a text message informing me the will not be refunding my payment. read more

Sydney was wonderful! I got a specialty cut and it turned out great! I absolutely love it! She took what I was asking for and put a little bit of artistic intuition into it which I think is great. I just recently became a returning customer. My kudos goes to Roni, the hairstylist and the front staff. I was referred to Roni by quite a few people, she comes with high praise. The front staff is always polite and attentive, it makes visiting Citrus a pleasant experience. For the first time Roni did coloring for me, I brought a few different inspo pictures and she explained which color she thought best... and I'm glad I leave it to the experts! I went lighter and loved the results. From what I know the Citrus Salon staff really support each other and shine a great vibe. They provide quality to their work and customer experience. Took my 10 year old here for the first time and had an absolutely wonderful experience. Ash was so warm and welcoming to my daughter and did an absolutely amazing job on her hair! She has hair that's a bit tougher to cut as she has curls underneath and a bit straighter hair on top. Ash new exactly what to do to give her curls life! My daughter left the salon feeling wonderful! Citrus Salon is wonderful, but the real reason I keep coming back is Karalynne. She is the best colorist I have ever seen, and her haircuts are just right. Karalynne is thoughtful and meticulous, which means that my super thick, fast growing and unruly hair actually looks salon fresh even after 8 weeks. I have dark brown hair that was not graying gracefully, until Karalynne. She has been able to dial in just the right color so that my grays somehow look more like highlights, while keeping my hair from going all brassy. She is a miracle worker. The salon is really nice too. The rinse stations are actually comfortable. I love the Aveda tea, and they have a great selection of Aveda products available. read more

This shop had caused unnecessary stress due to finding the unauthorized charges! Our quoted prices for today's services was $157.00, and I left a $40.00 tip...but my big mistake was agreeing to an emailed receipt, not one in hand! When I arrived home & reviewed my bank account & emails, I realized I had been charged $375.00. Looking at the emailed receipt, it shows services $175.00 (wtf) Tip $200.00 (wtf) and $20.00 to some unknown prepaid debit card WTF I wonder how much has been put on that card over the years? Check your receipts!! Of course I was told after numerous texts & calls that at 6:00 that there wasn't any manager to help me. By the time the owner called, that I had to locate, bc no one reached out to me. I had then received an invoice with a $160.00 credit! It makes no sense, how did my numbers of $157.00 & $40.00 tip that I input into that bank terminal, with my PIN number become $375.00 out of my bank account?? See below! Beware...they skirted around trying to explain, but the receipts below tell the truth. I'd never return to this establishment & I certainly don't recommend it to anyone else that expects transparency & honesty. I then receive the refund email with the attachment below! Ok citrus let's cover up your shops misdoings with the fact that my $40 tip was entered as $200?? Would it had been too much to ask to get a simple invoice stating.., Service $157.00 Tip $40.00 Total. $197.00 Charge to you debit card is $197.00 That pretty basic I believe! I'd never return to this business nor would I recommend anyone to this business, if you want honesty, transparency & respect. read more

The salon is clean and has an open concept. It's one of the nicer salons and is located in a prime location for Martinez. The stylists at Citrus are "Aveda trained" with what appears to be continuing education, but nothing spectacular. The staff are young and friendly enough, and unfortunately, I won't be returning. I've taken my mom in for a basic trim, color, and style costing $300-$400. Her hair doesn't even reach her shoulder and when I say it's a basic cut, I honestly mean basic. We kept returning because of the proximity and hoped to have a better experience since I got a different hairdresser each time. However, paying this much for a barely cut service on hair that short is insane. When it's time to settle up, the stylist will hand you an iPad to complete your transaction and hover over you to make sure you choose from the higher percentage of pre-selected tip options. Yes, I said hover because that is exactly what they do. This has happened to us every time. The whole experience is unpleasant, especially when you're unsatisfied with the cut. You're paying for a well-established name brand that claims to be plant-based. Research that farce yourself. While it's better than other well-known brands, it isn't the best. Finding a good hairdresser is challenging for the women in my family. We have long, thick, some wavy-some curly hair. Stylists will usually attempt to thin it out, which is not what we ask for. We all have a simple and clear request, which is to trim the hair, and just give it some layers to keep the shape, but that's not what we get. This seems to be a consistent issue with stylists overall and is incredibly frustrating. I suspect it has to do with the demographics. With that said, if you have thick hair with a curl above 3a, then I would think twice about choosing this salon, but if you have thin, mostly straight hair and enjoy blowouts, then this is the salon for you. read more
