Think twice!!! Are you prepared to get a cut that looks like your toddler went to town on your hair while you were napping? I went in for an A-line haircut last week. My hair was draped on my shoulders, too hot for summer. The woman who cut my hair blow dried it before showing me her work. I had told her I can't see without my glasses so when I viewed it all curled under it looked 'adequate' but not exactly A-line. Slope was not really visible. After I washed my hair a few days later I could clearly see one side was longer and that it was very uneven. Looked like she forgot the A-line completely so just left the front longer, and shorter than we discussed. She cut off 3-4 inches of hair even though I explicitly told her NOT to cut the front, to use that hair length as the guide for the slope from back to front. Went back yesterday to get it fixed but the older woman I saw just cut it shorter in back, did not even bother evening out the cut and ended up telling me that if I kept it curled on the ends it would look okay. I'm 86, w neuropathy and shaky. I had told them upfront I don't blowdry my hair very often as it is hard and painful to do with my medical 'issues.' What kind of salon says to just blow dry it curled under so others don't notice the shitty job they did? Really? That's your answer? Move along, pay more, and get a good cut. It really makes me upset to hear how greedy the owner of this franchise (4 total franchises) treats their employees. Just this month slide the Martinez Muir station great clips saw 5 employees quit. The owner of this franchise location does not offer any benefits to their employees, no 401k, no retirement options. The owner makes employees work Holidays without Holiday pay from 9am-8pm. That is outrageous, who in their right mind willingly wants to work a Holiday without any incentive to be away from their family or friends during a time of gathering and celebration. I can no longer support this company and most certainly not put another one of my hard earned dollars in the greedy unfair franchise owners pocket. Not until you share the wealth with your employees and may I consider being a patron of this business again. I went to Great Clips in Martinez on 8/7/21. Ive been to this Great Clips a few times when I had short hair. I've been growing my hair out the last 2 years, ever since I retired from the military and it's pretty thick and long. I asked the hair stylist for a trim and to get rid of the dead ends/split ends. Near the end of the cut, the hair stylist informs me he "layered" my hair. He also cut off more than 4 inches of my hair. I've taken my boys here many times and they've done great with their hair. But recently my sister came here and got a great cut from Crystal which prompted me to give her a try. The last haircut I got was $50 and a month ago at a popular salon in downtown Martinez. It just didn't look great. I went to Crystal and she evened my hair out. This great clips is located in a small shopping mall and is great overall. I go to franchise hair places with low standards because i assume I get what I pay for, but this place is an exception to the rule! First off I was treated with great customer service. The stylist was cutting someone's hair, but still greeted me and let me know that I would be helped in just a moment. She was also accurate with the wait time and after only about a 10 minute wait I got my haircut. The haircut itself was great, my stylist paused a couple of times to show me how the cut was going and to make sure I was getting the length and style I wanted. The store was clean and very presentable, too! The location is great also, since it's right by a CVS and a grocery store, so you can do a bit of shopping while waiting for your family members to get their hair cuts. read more

Had a terrible experience here today. From the moment I stepped in, the girl that helped me seemed bothered, like she really didn't want to be here, or she was angry another customer came in. I sat in her seat and she asked me what I wanted to have done, so I started to explain. She cut me off and started talking over me, telling me to sit all the way back in the chair. Her energy was bothered. She started cutting my hair in silence, which is fine because I'm not particularly talkative with people I don't know, but she's cutting my hair with so much annoyance and impatience that she ended up cutting herself. She didn't say anything, and ran into the back. I sat in my chair waiting, listening to her cry in the back, for what felt like forever. I'm not trying to be unfeeling, she obviously hurt herself, and that's horrible, but the way it was handled was so unprofessional. The guy cutting hair next to her told me to just wait, and that she'd be back. At this point, I don't really think I'm going to let this girl continue with my haircut, and I get up and walk to the front to pay. He charged me FULL PRICE for less than half a haircut, and then when she comes back out she yells, "I can finish your haircut! I was just bleeding!" From across the room. I gave her a tip because she was obviously having a terrible day, but after fuming over this all evening, I shouldn't have paid at all and just high tailed it out of there. The energy here sucks. This Great Clips location is our 'neighborhood hair cut place'... I take both of my kids here regularly for their haircuts. I love that it is in a location that is easy to get to and park, lots of other businesses around (so we can pair it with lunch or fro-yo!) and the best part-- the easy online check in. With their app- you can just check to se how long the wait is and 'check in online'. That way - no waiting when you get there. I'd say the most we have to wait once in shop, is about 5 minutes. All of the ladies that work there do a great job on my kids' hair... probably because they keep notes in their system of what your 'regular' is. They're all good- I can only recall Maria's name, she did my son's hair most recently and did a great job! He loved it! And we even bought the hair wax/pomade that she used on him- -they stock a lot of products! Were in and out in about half hour- so that's great. UPDATE TO MY REVIEW BELOW: I want to begin by stating that I don't think that this stylist was intentionally making me uncomfortable. I honestly believe that she saw nothing wrong with the nature of the conversation, and some gentle coaching will probably fix it easily. I was just not comfortable with addressing my discomfort with her directly at the time, due to being a relatively non-confrontational person, as well as being in a slight state of disbelief. The owner/manager of this franchise location (Eric) has reached out to me and expressed apologies for my experience. He has coached the stylist on appropriate interactions and also offered to make it up to me. I let him know that I very much appreciated his response. It is very clear to me from his response that he takes customer feedback seriously and cares very much about the customer experience. For this reason, and because I am satisfied with my actual cut, I am willing to give this location another chance and would even sit with this stylist again. It's not often that you see this kind of response from management/ownership when they're faced with negative feedback. I give Eric a lot of credit for addressing this situation so quickly and appropriately. Two more stars tacked on for Eric! *********************** Two stars: one because you can't leave zero, and one because I did wind up with a good cut. My stylist (name removed) did a very good job with the cut, however she was asking very invasive questions that made me extremely uncomfortable. After greeting me, her very first comment to me was "that's a really expensive purse" and then began speculating on the actual price, guessing amounts. I told her that it was a birthday gift in hopes that we would move on. As she began working on my hair she asked me if I'm married (which is fine, not one of the invasive questions I mentioned) and we started talking about weddings. She asked where I got married and when I answered she stated that the place is very expensive. Then she asked me how much I paid. When I intentionally dodged that question because I was uncomfortable, she kept asking "did you spend over $10,000?" and "so how much was it though?" and "what did it cost you?" I have always been taught you don't ask ANYONE how much they make, how much they paid for something, or any money questions... especially a stranger. Even with friends and family, money questions are very rude and tacky, and they make people uncomfortable. In addition to her even asking these questions, she was speaking very loudly and there were other customers in the shop. Not only does that involve them in an already uncomfortable conversation, but I also feel like that puts me at risk of being mugged in the parking lot, as she's making me out to be rich and pointing out my valuables. I was in such disbelief that I didn't even know what to say to get her to stop. At the end, as she was recommending styling products for my cut, she demonstrated on herself by sprinkling some Bed Head volumizing powder on her hair and then working it into her scalp with her fingers, then immediately doing the same on MY head, without even washing her hands! She did this so quickly that I didn't have time to process what was happening, let alone stop her. That is unprofessional and completely unsanitary. Even with how well she cut my hair, I don't want to be in her chair again and I don't want to go back to that location at risk of getting her as my stylist again. Which is a shame because the last time I was there, early last year, I had a great experience with another stylist. I wish the app let you choose a stylist from whoever is on shift at the time. I have been going to great clips for years. Recently I relocated to Martinez, so I was a little worried about finding a good salon. I checked in online and drove to this location. As I walked in, an older Hispanic lady was telling a walk-in customer she was next. However my name apparently came up first which seemed to irritate the older Hispanic lady (it was pretty obvious). I would have been completely fine with waiting considering the other customer was there first regardless of my online check in. When I got in the chair, the stylist (older Hispanic lady) seemed unnecessarily rough. I don't have a sensitive head but the brushing out of my hair hurt. I was looking to get my hair cut to shoulder length and then a few layers. She asked me how many layers, length, etc. she wet my hair to make it easier to cut and proceeded. Small talk was minimal which is totally fine. I was definitely still feeling awkward after the initial walk in encounter. The haircut was fast which was worrisome. Usually it takes about 30 minutes but this felt much shorter. when she indicated we were done, I was confused because my hair was still wet. She didn't blow dry my hair. In hindsight it was probably to hide the absolute garbage job she did. The layers are uneven and choppy. They don't blend with my hair at all. The layers are also short despite my specifications for long. Never in my life have I actually been upset about a haircut. I'm very laid back. In fact I still tipped her like an absolute idiot. I'm currently waiting for my hair to grow out since this just happened in January. I will never go to this location again. I also strongly discourage others as well. Furthermore, usually when you walk in, the stylists greet you with a friendly welcome. This was the first time that didn't happen. read more

I wish I remembered the girls name, she was a young Hispanic girl, but all I know is Is have been seeing red since lasts night... I walked in knowing what I was doing. I had pretty long hair, almost mid way down my back and went in to get a pixie cut (Its was DEFINITELY time for a change.) I went in and saw only one girl working and thought she was going to do it. She was cutting a man's hair at the time but she seemed thorough, asking him questions along the way. He was almost done and then this young Hispanic lady walked out from the back and took me instead. Everything was fine she was super sweet and we were joking back and forth because, well, in the situation that you are cutting off your long locks you have to have humor to get you through the change! So she does the back of my head and starts going towards the front. As she was cutting we were having small talk, I asked her how long she has been doing hair and she told me 3 years... I had the picture in my hand for her to see how I wanted it. (I do understand that when showing a hair dresser a picture of what you want, it MOST LIKELY wont come out exactly like the picture. TOTALLY get that!) But she started cutting more and more and I was siting there wondering WTF she was doing.... the front "side burn" part was supposed to be longer, framing the face with nice bangs and a shorter sides and back. But she KEPT CUTTING after I told her where the long part should be. I was LIVID! She cut the side really short where the fringe was supposed to go, I told her, you just cut where the long part was supposed to be... and SHE CHUCKLED!.... DO YOU SEE ME LAUGHING?! My face instantly dropped... I was pissed.. I think she knew I was pissed too because her demeanor changed, but she kept cutting.. When she finished, she asked how I liked the back, it was terrible but I didn't want her to touch my hair anymore... So I said it was fine.. I walked away to go pay... I should NOT have paid, I even gave her a $4 tip... I am going to call and try to get my money back.. I was so unhappy with the crappy bowl cut this girl gave me... How can you say you have been cutting hair for 3 years and end up with something so badly?! Her manager needs to have a SERIOUS sit down with her... It was terrible.
