so..i had previously been going to someone all the way in Santa Rosa, who is great but the drive is really killing me..and I work down the street from P.S. Hair Studio..I'd heard Paula's name a few times and I came here and saw her reviews though it sounded great I was apprehensive bc I have curly to wavy hair and Ive had bad hair experiences.. a woman of great talent, paula schwartz listens to what her clients want. she gives them a style tailored to suit their lifestyle, personality, and most important of all gives them beautiful looking hair. never before her did i get exactly what i asked for. she actually listens. imagine that! paula is so good in fact, that she inspired me to start doing hair about seven years ago. did i forget to mention that i too work at p.s.( with the owner and namesake) paula, but this isn't about me. the studio is truly a diamond in the rough. between sandovals and benicia frame on first street, there is a red door. behind that red door, there are 27 steps straight up. grab a bottle of water and your inhaler, and come up to see us. it's best to make an appointment to get in, but if you just want to check the place out, don't hesitate. can't wait to meet you. This review is from a while ago, and I'm remiss in not posting it sooner. I'm sorry, Paula! I called Paula yesterday, taking a chance that she could fit me in. She did, despite me never having seen her before. Raquel did my color, after Paula consulted with me. The colors she suggested look great on me, and Raquel did a great job doing the color. Paula did my haircut. It is the first really good haircut I've had in a long time. I felt very welcome in her shop and I will definitely be going back. And I have been back many times. Paula and Raquel are fantastic. I've always been happy with my color and my cut. I really think this is a first-class hair studio. read more

I had been looking for someone who can cut and style curly hair (because not everyone can do it), I heard a recommdation for Paula from another curly hair girl and decided to give her a try. I was not disappointed! Paula was AMAZiNG!!! She spoke with me about my lifestyle, played with my hair, looked at the shape of my head and face and checked out the texture of my hair before even picking up the scissors. The ladies were both warm and friendly and put me at ease as soon as I walked in the door, and it is located in a great old building, but watch out for those stairs! Paula has been cutting my hair for at least 13 years. I dread the day she retires. I have very difficult hair. It's thin, some parts wavy, some straight, some curly. She knows my hair and my head and always works with whatever new cut I might decide to try...and she does an amazing job. Paula also teaches her patrons while she's cutting. She tells me exactly what kind of products to use depending on the style, what kind of tools I need and shows me how to do it. Ive been getting my hair colored with Paula now for about 2 years! I am always so comfortable there (except those stairs when walking in the front door-they go straight up!! Good cardio tho). She is basically a 1 chair shop. Which is great! I like the quiet pace. Paula is amazing at color, and I mean AMAZING! She has put dimention & life back into my once over-processed hair! Her hours are flexible & prices are great, when you consider all the other salons in Benicia & nearby towns. She always has a warm smile on her pretty face & makes me feel very welcome, as I see with other clients coming in the shop. There is parking on the street and she is the red door next to Sandovals! I realized I didnt say anything about her cutting & styling my hair-I have been letting my hair grow long, despite the "old rule" of cutting a womans hair as she gets older! I love Paula she is a true professional always researching the latest and newest products. She used a new product on me called Omniplex (sp?) it is a product used after hair coloring to make hair stronger and healthier. I love the way this product made my hair feel silky and soft. It's a strengthener also so I'm hoping it will help my hair grow longer and stronger! read more

My appointment was with Raquel Sandoval. I called for Paula with a recommendation, however, I got the protege who recently acquired her license. When I complained via email that day from home with a closer mirror and glasses, explaining that my hair was my hair was uneven, her response was that I had come in with my hair lopsided. The left side of my head had not been layered or apparently cut at all. When I pay a stylist $78, I expect that anything "wrong" will be corrected. The cut was Saturday. I flew to AZ for training on Monday at 6:30 am. I had 40 hours a week and homework, which delayed calling the studio owner for several weeks. I did not cut my hair during this time, expecting the owner to at least offer another cut. Nope. She said that when I left I was happy. The bangs were great. The back was great. But when you see the pics on Facebook, it will prove the point. read more

Unlike so many others in her field, Paula actually has a vision of what color, cut and style will work best for you. And she listens to you! I have been going to another salon in Benicia for years and finally got fed up with the stylist blaming my dissatisfaction on the thinnest of my hair and my underlying gray roots.
