STOP!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I bought a Groupon for 12 VCR tapes to be transferred to CD's. It was a great deal until I went to the shop to hand my tapes in. If the tapes are more that 2 hours long, you need to pay more. If you want a better CD (as suggested) than the low end kind (if there is such a thing) you need to pay more. And don't forget about the taxes. I bit the bullet and agreed. I made sure to comment that "I am putting my life in your hands". I handed him 12 tapes of my children growing up from birth. After 6 weeks, I got a call that they were done and ready for pick up. After paying the extra money (which was more than double the original cost). The owner (I assume) commented on the condition of my tapes. I left without a clue of what he did. After weeks of going through the tapes and CD's, I was appalled. CD #12 was a copy of tape #11. So I now have 2 of #11 and nothing for #12. I found quite a few CD's that were A and B. Apparently, the tape broke so he split it. I found a few of my original tapes all rolled on one side with an attachment to the other, so now they are totally unplayable!!!! I could go on but you get the point. I am utterly disgusted! I am screwed! I am worse off than if I did nothing! DON'T GIVE HIM YOUR TAPES!!!!!!!! read more

I mailed my original tapes (with no backups) to them in Aug. I called in early Oct to check the status. My tapes could not be found. In late Oct, I finally got a message that my tapes were found and were finished. I called and was told they couldn't find them again. I started calling weekly again. Finally on Dec 23 when I called, they were found again. I had to pay an additional $50 due to mold but at that point, I just wanted my memories back! They seem to be incredibly disorganized. I also felt that they didn't seem to understand how precious people's home videos are. I had to call repeatedly to check if they had been found and they never seemed concerned that they couldn't find them. I would warn you NOT to risk using this company. read more

This was a disappointing experience. I used Katfam to convert 12 family VHS tapes to CDs. From the beginning, there were problems. I initiated this transaction trough Groupon in mid-August. Worried that my precious tapes could get lost and not knowing this firm 700 miles away, I called them. No answer. More research told me they had taken a week or so off. Completely. Locked up tight. Just as a Groupon coupon appears. I contacted Groupon. They offered me a full cancelation, but I decided to persist. Returning from their vacation, I was told over the phone they had "800 orders to catch up on". I would be called in a couple of weeks. I wound up calling them - not they me - back in a couple of weeks, and several more times in the weeks after that. Finally, in early October, they called to tell me that they had made the conversions, but I owed much more than I thought. I had been led to believe in an earlier call that I would probably be charged about $17 to ship the tapes back to me in Indiana. Fair enough. But now I learned that, though I had used only two-hour video tapes, on a few of my 12 tapes, recordings had exceeded two hours by a tiny bit. There was a $15 charge each for those. I have my tapes back. They are adequate quality transfers at a significantly higher charge, a charge never discussed or disclosed to me in advance. And there are no chapters on the finished CDs, just straight transfer. On customer service, disclosure of full terms and costs, responsiveness, and finished work, I think a customer could do better. My STUPID ACT !!! I do not recommend repeating! One friend warned me: Do not work with Katfam Photo Family Movies at 847 Edgell Rd., Framingham, MA. In December 2021, I brought to Katfam Photo 43 20-30 year-old cassettes from VHC-30min, VHC-45min, and Mini-DV camcorders that belonged to my friends and me. The owner of the store said that they could digitize the cassettes to Hi-Fi quality DVDs for $29 per Cassette, coming to a total of $1,247. The owner demanded that I pay the entire amount immediately, $1,247.00, in cash because he had a problem with his credit card reader. He wasn't able to find the book with receipts so he said his wife would write me a receipt at a later date. I came back after 10 days and they only had 6 DVDs ready and still weren't able to find the book of receipts to write me a receipt. After another week, I got an additional 8 DVDs. At home, I tried to watch them but the quality was terrible. The pictures were flickering, the sound would disappear, and 4 of the DVDs had no sound at all. The owner of the store said he would rerecord the DVDs with no sound. Finally, at the end of March, I came to pick up 38 DVDs and cassettes. But there were 5 cassettes missing, as I brought in 43 cassettes. I asked for a refund for the 5 lost cassettes and 2 that they were not able to record, which would amount to a total of $203. But the owner said that he donated the money I had spent on the DVDs to his daughter's dance team and his son's soccer team so they can both get new uniforms and equipment. He refused to give me a refund or find the lost tapes and just told me to have a nice day and come back next time. read more

I wasn't going to write a review, but I feel like I need to counteract some of the other reviews. I was actually in the store at the same time as one of the other reviewers who is complaining, and witnessed the store owner being very patient and accommodating while he was being verbally abused in front of his kids by a certain customer who couldn't seem to be pleased. Anyways, I had some high quality photos sent here to be put on canvas. They came out perfectly. The color was magnificent, and the canvas wrap was professionally done. I would recommend this deal especially for the price. Just be patient with their turnaround time (about 1 week). Overall a good place and good final product. I will be ordering more canvas prints soon. Also just as a general note on Yelp, trust reviewers who have reviewed many different things, both good and bad. If someone only has one review, and it is a rant, it's typically not trustworthy. read more

Worst experience. One of the worst services I have seen in united states. I went to Katfam for a 12x18 canvas print on a thursday. I was told to collect the canvas on next Friday that is one week. I called to check the status and the response i got was ' I am busy in a conference call call me in 20 minutes'. I called back again and he says photo print machine has some ink issues and give a call on Monday. And I get the same answer when I call and ask about my order ' on a conference call give me a call in 20 minutes'. Finally I called him after another week on a sarurday and I started getting the same response ' on a conference call....' . I immediately stopped his conversation and said that I will be in your store in 10 minutes and I need my money back. I went to his store and by the time I reach there he is working on my order. What kind of service is this. He just says sorry when I say your service is worst. I will definitely not recommend this place based on my worst experience. read more

I bought a groupon/social living deal for Katfam so I could have all my camp videos transferred from VHS to DVD (don't laugh, my boyfriend does enough of that for all of you). The staff were friendly, and they understood exactly what I wanted, putting all 5 onto 2 DVDs and labeling each with the years the videos were from. I am so glad to have them in an updated format so I can share my awkward teenage years with others. My only gripe was that I had to call them to find out when they were ready, I was expecting a call the week prior and heard nothing. Otherwise, a great experience. read more

Do NOT even consider the negative reviews about this business. Those people have an agenda. The service here is very high grade. As a professional in an industry where service is nearly our top priority I should know. I flew in to Boston from Austin the first week of November 2013 and dropped off a large box of VHS tapes. I had thought these tapes were basically worthless. Two weeks later on a return trip to the Boston area I was able to pick up that same box and a large stack of DVDs, expertly labeled and packaged neatly. A day later, I was watching Academy Award winning films like Crimes of the Heart and Children of a Lesser God on my laptop on the flight home. Took me a month & a half to get my DVD ("s") back that I was having transferred from video and that was only after multiple emails and voicemails that were unreturned. Once I finally spoke with them it was because I called them not because anyone bothered to get back in touch with me. So I finally get my package from them yesterday and it includes one DVD vs. three...as I paid for and was stated on my Groupon. I bought it so that I could gift them as gifts and have one for myself. Bad business owner! Not trustworthy! The owner is not what he appears to be! I dropped off a picture on a Wednesday and was told it would be ready on Saturday. He made me pay up front. He was so charming and accommodating. I showed up a week later to pick up the picture on canvas which was 4 days after the promised date. HE LOST MY PICTURE AND PAPERWORK!! His demeanor changed completely and he was quite defensive even though it was his fault. Luckily, I had another picture. He then said that he would MAIL me the new picture on canvas by Saturday. I needed the picture on canvas for Saturday night so I was amiable to this concession. Saturday at noontime, he called me and said that he wouldn't mail it because it cost too much. At that point he spoke over me and became very unpleasant. I explained to him that he promised me that I would have it for my Saturday night party and that he would mail it. I got no satisfaction! I paid up front so he thought he could be as nasty as he pleased. I had to pick up the picture myself but because I was out going out of town for the party, I wasn't able to pick it up until Tuesday. When I got there, I had to go through a pile of canvases to find my picture. He is not organized at all and is a terrible business man! RUN, don't walk away from this business! I entrusted several old family videos to them to transfer to DVD. Two of these irreplaceable videos were lost entirely (which was my worst nightmare as they can never be replaced) and 9 of the DVDs they made from my family videos have picture and sound quality issues so severe they cannot be watched. They told me the original tapes were damaged. I checked each of my original tapes and they do not have any damage whatsoever and no video and audio problems. These people have NO idea what they are doing, are totally unprofessional and cannot be trusted with your cherished memories. They also took almost a month to do my video transfers, and then did this poor a job--to the tune of about $300. I can't believe they are even in business and wish I had seen the numerous complaints against them online before I bought their services through Groupon. Please don't get fooled like I did. Dropped off 12 miniDV tapes for dvd conversion, got 12 back. Had a Groupon, paid to upgrade to better quality dvds. Watching our 3rd dvd and all is good so far. Sound and picture (full screen) on my 65" is probably as good as I could hope for without some digital modification work. Most of the tapes were 7-12 years old. Took about 2 weeks. I'm pretty happy with the result. I will probably go back with more tapes. read more

Totally not happy with Katfam service. I bought their Groupon, a couple of them in fact. I had about 18 old family tapes and movies that I wanted transferred to DVD, with the one copy that came with it and 2 extra of each for my kids. What they did...which never dawned on me that they would..was put EACH old tape on a single DVD...18 of them. Then made 2 extra copies of each of the 18. I have had this done before and the company put all of the DVD's on as few discs as possible.now I have a DVD which has about 1 minute of tape. I thought that the two Groupns I bought would cover the cost of the transfers. They charged me $250 which was outrageous. They also must have had someone drunk handling the DVD's..there was only 1 of some of the tapes..none for numbers 13 and 17...Only one DVD for some. I feel like I was totally ripped off. HORRIBLE. I had found a Groupon for ordering a canvas photo print from Katfam and called the place to find out how soon they could get the print made. I needed it done ASAP for a birthday gift. They said they could do it within about 2 days, and I explained that I would follow up later with details, file, etc. So the following day, I bought the Groupon and emailed the details to Katfam (Martin Katamba). I didn't receive a response for 2 days, so I called to confirm they received my email. At this point, they said it will take 6 days to process because it is a Groupon order, not a regular order. This was going to be late for me already, but I didn't have any choice but to wait for the job to be completed (I would gift the photo print late). Several days later, I got an email saying the canvas photo print is ready. Since I didn't need it urgently anymore and was moreover out of town, I planned to pick it up 1-2 days later. However, their email also said towards the bottom that Katfam was now going to be CLOSED for the next 2 MONTHS! We stopped by to check, and indeed - they were closed! Now we're stuck with an order that we don't really need anymore, and we're giving the birthday gift 2 months late. Great. Throughout the process, Katfam was very unresponsive, and during those 2 months, they were COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. No email, no phone. I shared the news with a friend of mine, who said they also had a bad experience with Katfam previously - including the fact that their own canvas print had turned out in bad quality (e.g. the frame was very crooked). I found this little family owned business on groupon, they had a special for converting VHS to DVD. It was a nice place with a friendly atmosphere. I dropped off my tapes in mid December, hoping for them to be ready by Christmas time. It was my own fault for bringing them in so close to Christmas so I was not expecting any favors, just kept my fingers crossed. At first I was told they would be done after the new year. Well I think the nice lady saw the look on my face when I realized my DVDs, which were home videos from childhood I was planning to give to my mother as a Christmas gift, would not be ready in time, and I feel, after a couple phone calls, that she went out of her way to make sure they would be ready in time. And they were! I came to pick them up and was greeted by the same smiling lady who greeted me the first time. It looks like they offer a lot of services and I will go back. They called me when all was ready in a shorter period of time than they had estimated. Each DVD was labeled with my name, with VHS and matching DVDs rubber banded together. Brought in a very special family VHS tape to have 8 copies made for family and cousins. My mistake that I forgot there was non-family video on the tape, and they actually made two DVD's for me. This was the most horrible experience ever! I can't decide which was worse, the quality of the canvas print or the "lack of" customer service. I purchased a groupon and when I went to place my order, the whole company was shut down for a month vacation. This information was NOT included on the GROUPON and if it had been, I never would have placed an order with them. In addition, when the order was complete, they charged me shipping!?!! Why was this not included in the GROUPON?? I have placed many, many orders with Picture it on Canvas and when you check out, you pay the shipping charge. Nice and easy! The experience with Katfam Photo was horrible and I will NEVER, EVER again do business with them. Not only was the experience awful in dealing with their lack of customer service skills, but the quality of their product was terrible! I ordered a large canvas print and the frame was uneven, and the solution that they applied dripped along the whole picture. I got a groupon for the transfer of old video tapes to DVDs. I have 22 of them, stuff from 1993 through the early 2000s in 3 different formats that has traveled with me through my youth & then stored in my basement, so I didn't know what to expect as far as quality outcome going into this. I turned it all over to the very friendly and warm man in the shop and a little over 24 hours later I got a call. All done! Really? That was fast! But what about quality? I popped it into my laptop as soon as I got home - my 14 yr old daughter & I laughed until we cried at videos of her starting from when she was 3 months old. They were in pretty good shape! This experience with Katfam Photo was a win-win all around. The Groupon made it feel like a bargain. You know you have tapes sitting around losing quality every year that you ignore them. Stop waiting, just do it, and check it off your mental list of "I really should..." that sits in the back of your head. You will be so glad you did! read more

On June 10, 2016 I mailed 12 videos to this company for transfer to DVD. I was told to send them immediately and they'd have them done before they went on vacation the following week. It's been almost SEVEN WEEKS and they can't be reached. Their website is down and they don't answer the phone. This is a bit distressing. read more

My experience with this place and the owner was a grave disappointment and a mistake. Like others I was lured in by a Groupon discount to convert old format video to DVD. I was told 4 weeks and I was to get a call, at 4 weeks +, no call. I called, left a message about status of my order. NO return call. Called again, spoke to the owner, he could not find my order, said he would call me back, three days go by, NO return call. I call back again the following week, again my order cannot be found. At this point, one gets a less than confident feeling about the possibility that one's MOST precious and priceless video of one's children, the only video of when they are young, is lost, damaged or who knows. Yet another call to the owner and they could not find my order. So I make the not so close drive to the place and there, this is week #7 going on 8 for an order that was told to me to be done in 4 weeks. My order is there, however, a roll of 35 mm which was also dropped off with the video conversion could not be found and to this day is missing. Almost 8 weeks and one roll of 35 mm not processed. I immediately went through every DVD that was produced, unfortunately a third of them had errors on them, eg. a second DVD was produced to copy over parts that were cut off on the first. At this point I need to watch every minute of the orginals on 8 mm and make sure it made over to the DVD or the absolute worse scenario, they erased or damaged the originals!!! Needless to say I have lodged a complaint with the BB of Mass. against this organization. In addition, NEVER did the owner use the word every paying customer needs to hear when things go wrong: " I am sorry" or 'we made a mistake, let me make it up to you by...." or " I realize this is an awful situation for you and I would like to..." Not once was that uttered. This guy should not be allowed to run a business this poor. DO NOT send your business there. I am going to Groupon to see if they have standards for businesses for whom they publish their discount coupons because my expereince and others on these reviews are going to give Groupon a bad reputation too. This place is great. Bought a Groupon for a canvas print. I came out beautiful!!! Bought another Groupon for video transfer to dvd's and they came out great!!! They people there are very friendly. They always greet you when you walk in the door and ask how you are doing!! This is the way it should be, but unfortunately, those days have long past. My norder's were done in a very timely manner too, even though they seem to be always busy!! Try them, with or with-out a Groupon, you won't be sorry!!!! read more
