I come here once in a while when I'm in the area, usually out of necessity. It's a very clean nail salon in a nice area, but the service is inconsistent. Some of the manicurists are so friendly but there are also a few others who are a little rude. Last time I came in I noticed that my pedicure had a few dents, so I came back in a few hours later to have them fixed. The pedicurist acted visibly annoyed that I came back (even though I left her an additional tip for fixing it and said that I'd wait until she had a free moment to fix them). Another patron came in with a similar complaint while I was there and she was given an attitude too. Also, even if you have an appointment you still often have to wait. I waited about 10 mins for my appointment, and I noticed 4-5 other patrons came in with appointments that were told they'd have to wait upwards of 15-20 mins. In terms of safety/cleanliness I think they do a really good job, but the service isn't the best. read more

Came in for a gel pedicure. First time client. I asked where the gel colors were and was waved over to a wall of nail polish with no further direction. I chose a color that I was later told was not gel. The manicurist was nice and quick but dropped the tools on the ground and didn't clean them. I didn't realize until I got home that she had completely messed up two nails. She didn't say anything or repair it and let me leave with them looking that way. Would not return. read more

I was appalled today by the statements made to me by a technician named Kate. I made an appointment for a pedicure and gel manicure. When I got there I confirmed it was pedicure and gel Manicure . After they place the foils on my nails to soak and started my pedicure I thought all was ok. After my pedicure was done the tech said we don't have time to do your gel Angel has another appointment. They said,"you'll have to wait". I told her that was fine. Then after she was doing my gel nails (the chair was near the front desk) she said " your nails are too difficult because of how they are shaped and we charge you no more for how difficult your nails are!" I was thinking this never came up before when Angel did my nails. I don't want to go back! I felt so insulted! I just cannot believe this girl could speak to me like this. I should have asked fir the manager or owner! I have never been told I was sooo difficult that I should be charged more because my nails are curved down mire. i took my daughter to get a gel manicure and a pedicure. they didn't push or cut her cuticles on her hands then only did a base and a top coat of gel so the gel started chipping off after a couple hours. Guess they thought she was a kid so why do a good job. The. I had to take her to the podiatrist yesterday because she got an infection in her toe . i Spoke to Kate and she said she could redo my daughters nails but my daughter won't go back. The gal doing my pedicure was so distracted. Every time the door opened she would stop then whisper to the gal giving a pedi next to her. There was something going on. At one point she was clearly talking about me, I could tell by her gesturing with her eye to me as she had her palm by her face in hopes I wouldn't see. I am a. normal looking woman, my feet aren't hairy or anything (LOL) I was very uncomfortable. She talked me out of a gel mani to a "dip". Told me what color to use and handed me to the owner for mani. She continued to nick my cuticle. She explained her hands were sore from painting. There was no hand message or anything except dipping my fingers (that weren't even cleaned) into the powder which was a total different color than I had chosen for my gel. I love Kate's Salon and have been a loyal customer here for at least four or five years. I highly recommend their services. Kate works as hard as anyone I have ever seen to satisfy her clients. I have always been incredibly pleased by the level of personalized service here by Kate and her employees. On the extremely rare times I have had an issue with a nail breaking or chipping early, I have called Kate, and she was very happy to remedy the problem immediately to my satisfaction and without charge. Kate and her colleagues work with me to always give me exactly what I am looking for, no matter if it is the exact shape or color and I am very particular about what I want. I love Kate and her Spalon. I am sure you will also! My daughter, aunt, and mother even come here now, too! I would also add, as opposed to some other salons, parking is very easy. It is very safe here. The environment is beautiful, pleasant, and clean. In addition, to make sure that you and the nail artist are both fully satisfied, be sure to communicate exactly what you want, or if something hurts, of course, let them know immediately, ask them to change the technique, and don't suffer in silence. No one wants that. You want the best experience and so do they. I would recommend following this advice, no matter where you go! But again, you will not be sorry coming to Kate's Spalon. Quality manicure, service is lacking. Best gel manicures I have gotten in the area, high-quality polish and lasts 1.5 weeks for me. I have gone here 5 times and the service is always mixed, I came in on a Friday two hours before closing time and felt like I was a burden for being there. They rushed through the manicure and were so ready to get out of there, I told them not to worry about the lotion/ hand massage. Cleanliness is okay, I am picky about pedicures and I am not sure if I would 100% get one here, based on my observations of their cleaning routine after each customer. I like a nail salon that does waxing too! I like that they have a private room for waxing services - some places don't - I hate being on display when getting my lip waxed! I always enjoy my visit. The techs are professional and friendly. They have a ton of stations and staff so your wait isn't long. They have a nice selection of colors - regular and gel. They can accommodate groups - you just have to call ahead. Tip: If you need to get in and out fast call ahead - they will tell you when to stop in - I do it all the time. read more

I got a 'spa' pedicure which lasted all of 10 minutes, technician rushed through and the nail trimming was painful. I read through some of these reviews and was honestly shocked. This is where I've come for my manicures and pedicures for the last 3 years and have always had exceptional service from Kate. All the girls are friendly and happy to see you when you come in. This salon is the cleanest in Delaware in my opinion I've gone through many. It's very nicely decorated and always clean... Not sure about the other reviews here I just think they intended to sway others with exaggerated claims after not being as pleased as they expected. I have been going here for a few years now and I love it. It's very clean and spacious, just like a spa. My gels last for weeks and if I accidentally get a chip they will fix it for free! Cleanliness is big for me. First I noticed they didnt wipe down the table top with any cleaner, they rinsed out the bowl with acetone in it nd did not sanitize or disinfect it. I have been getting manicures on a regular basis for over half my life, and my recent experience with this salon was easily the worst, most unprofessional manicure I've ever been subjected to. I was a walk-in on Saturday morning, and asked if they had availability for a gel manicure. They told me to pick a color, have a seat, and the manicurist (she didn't bother to wear a name tag or introduce herself so I regrettably can't identify her) started my nails. About 2 minutes into my manicure, someone enters the salon, and my manicurist excitedly greets her and begins chatting with her about some new polish color. She gets up from doing my nails, sets up the new girl in a pedicure chair, and comes back to where I'm sitting. She immediately starts SPEEDING through my manicure, glopping on the polish in thick coats and not letting it dry completely under the UV lights between coats. Once all the coats of the polish were done, she left me unattended, and walks over to start her friend's pedicure without saying a word to me. A couple minutes later, another employee sees me sitting there, walks over, and gives me a half-hearted attempt at a hand massage since my original manicurist apparently couldn't be bothered to complete the service I was paying for. Manicurist #2 did not bother to do a hot towel, or shine my nails at the end with alcohol like they typically do at the end of a gel manicure, and I received no explanation or apology from Manicurist #1. From the time I sat down at the manicurist's station to the time I left, 14 minutes had elapsed. That is absolutely unacceptable for a $30 service. If the manicurist did not have time to do my nails adequately, she should have told me that they couldn't accept a walk-in at the moment. I would rather have no manicure than the abysmal hack job I'm currently sporting. It is also worth noting that during the 14 minutes I was actually attended to, the manicurist cracked her gum in my face repeatedly and read texts while doing my nails. Not exactly the relaxing experience I'd hoped for. My nails are already showing wear 3 days later. I have bumps and bubbles in the polish from where she rushed, and from her failure to dry my nails using the proper gel manicure procedures. I will not be returning. read more

This place may be a bit more expensive than some places in the area but I definitely have not had the quality of service either. All the techs are very caring and precise. Have been going to Kate's for almost 7 years now and I've never had a bad experience. The technicians are skilled, the prices are competitive and the salon itself is immaculate. The fills for my gel manicure last nearly 3 weeks. The massage chairs they use for pedicures are marvelous and the salon offers waxing services as well as manicures and pedicure. I most appreciate the staff's attention to detail and the cleanliness of the place. I've watched the staff clean basins and surfaces (and some of the comments I read here sound like a deliberate attempt to tarnish the salon's image) and they are fastidious about scrubbing and polishing all surfaces. I've never been to a salon as clean and well maintained as Kate's. read more

I am on my 2nd and half week with my dip nails and they are chipped already. First, they took off my dip nails incorrectly. I asked why and the woman (I think her name was Lin) insisted that they did not have to soak my nails to take it off because it took too much time. Already signaling that she wanted to rush through. After using the cotton and aluminum method she did not clean or shape my nails. Instead she used the harsh buffing tool to scrap off the rest of the dip powder which hurt like hell. She was not gentle and when I told her it stung a bit she said it's suppose to. That has never happen in all my years of getting dip powder. I recently moved to DE from ME and I never went through this. I asked her why she did not clean and shape my nails and her response was that it was an additional step and that she would shape after putting the dip powder on. Nothing about cleaning my nails. After noting that other clients were getting their nails cleaned before applying gel she said that the process was different with gel. Doubtful that my nails would last long enough for a wedding the following week, she insisted that it would as she rushed through her poor work with me. Kate's Spalon was recommended to me by fellow DE folks as a highly regarded nail salon but it seems that they have already established their clientele in the Greenville area and gave no regard for new clients. What a disappointing and traumatic experience. If I could rate them a zero I would. HORRIBALE PLACE -- save your money and go somewhere else. They over charge for poor quality and unprofessionalism. Go to Paradise Nails Bar in good ol Wilmington where they treat new clients with respect and the service is top notch! read more
