Being a customer service manager for years, it is so important to welcome without crowding a person, something that is too often lost. At Salon Secrets Spa in Kennett Square, they have that mastered. My stylist, Seleste, gave me a tour and asked questions about my hair, my "lifestyle" and what I expect. She didn't just rush in and start. She explained everything and asked me if I had any questions or reservations about her suggestions! We agreed on a plan and I could not be happier with the results. Airy, friendly, professional salon - highly recommend! Was in the area for a month and needed a haircut and bleaching. Looked for an Aveda salon and found this one. What a great experience. I was impressed with the friendly atmosphere and big, bright space as son as I walked in. The kind person at the counter gave me a tour and a welcome package with samples and gift certificates. Staff helped each other out and clearly cared about their clients. Bleaching my hair isn't easy, but it was obvious from the get-go that my stylist, Veronica, knew her stuff. She did a fantastic job, ensuring everything was perfect before I left. A few weeks later I went back for a careful and relaxing pedicure with Ellie. I will definitely come back the next time I am in the area and have been talking the salon up to my friends. Wanted to share my absolute poor experience here as a "brand new customer". I highly "do not recommend" this salon to anyone. I arrived for my appointment and the "master stylist" Celeste said she was going to do a foil. I told her after thinking about it a root lift + foil would be more what I was looking for color-wise. She then proceeded to tell me my hair won't lift, my hair is too dark, etc and that she can't do the root lift. She brings over this "master stylist" Allison, who was literally the rudest person I ever encountered, arguing with me about my hair color and what she "reccomends" to do to my hair, not what I want to do my own hair. She proceeds to tell me "I have communication problems b/c I canceled things on the appointment I agreed to in my consult," which was a complete lie. After my consult, they had added up-charge services including a $45 protein treatment and $55 blow dry I never agreed to. Regardless, why does Allison care? She starts yelling at me in front of customers and even the salon manager and front desk staff were shocked at how rude and unprofessional Allison was. Definitely dodged a bullet leaving this place. I have never seen such an unprofessional "master" stylist - which is definitely a stretch - for someone who cannot even do a simple root color and highlight. read more

My first haircut and color in more than a year due to Covid 19. I had a nice experience with The stylist, Victoria. The problem came when I presented my gift card which my husband had given me. It did not have an expiration date ( apparently Salon Secrets does not date their gift certificates which should be a plus). They could not find a record of the gift certificate in their system so refused to honor it. I had redeemed $80 dollars of it, prior to Covid, which was noted on the gift card, and had a remaining balance of $170.00 dollars. What should have been a great experience turned frustrating - I still don't understand how they can just say "it's not in our system". I was holding the gift certificate in my hand. read more

First of all this is an Aveda salon, which means they use all Aveda products. I personally can't stand Aveda, the nail polish always chips within hours of drying and all the hair products smell like a little old man's house. I didn't know this was an Aveda salon prior to my appointment. I just needed a simple haircut. However, I have limp straight hair that needs good layering to give it body. I explained exactly what I wanted, but the stylist fell short. Wasn't terribly impressed, and she breezed through it...cost $60...this is the first salon I've tried around here, I will definitely be looking for a new spot. read more

Make sure you are aware of the new cancellation policy. If you can before 24 hrs its half the cost of the service. If you can less than 24 hours it is the cost of the full service. I never cancel and appointment but I recently had a home emergency. Called at 9:00am to cancel my 5:00pm hair cut. Wow - got hit with the above. I finally found a wonderful stylist in Stephanie and unfortunately she is losing what would have been a long term client. I stayed with my last stylist 30 years until I moved. read more

I wanted to wait to write this review until everything was said and done- I have been going to this salon for years and it consistently delivers. It is under new ownership, and the changes are evident. Everything from the décor to the stylists have had a major facelift- the atmosphere is professional and welcoming. Ever since I was younger, I felt uncomfortable getting my hair done by ANYONE. It was sacred; since I started going to Salon Secrets, I can book an appointment with ANY stylist and know that they are going to take care of me. Each stylist is required to keep up with ongoing cosmetology education, and all have been trained by the best. They consistently know the styles that are in fashion and they take their time to take details into account. My last visit here, I was welcomed with a glass of Pinot Grigio (who doesn't love wine when they are relaxing?)- they saw me promptly and got to work. My hair needed a total do-over. It was red, and ugly; Nicole Cosenzo took amazing care of me- she stripped it of the color, did an all over color and brought me back to a beautiful brown with some gold tones. I thought it would be impossible, but she made it happen. All of the other services offered here are great as well. The estheticians are phenomenal with detail when it comes to waxing- again, I can book an appointment with any esthetician and I know that they will look awesome. Express and spa pedicures are heavenly, and the manicurists are the best in the area. The only qualm for me is that it is a bit pricey- but I am a young professional. For the quality of service that you receive here it is worth every penny... They also have a cute high-end boutique that you can shop around in before, during and after your appointments. They feature top name brands like Big Buddah, Shiraleah, Hale Bob, Susana Monaco etc. It is the perfect place to pick up an accessory gift or something beautiful for yourself. Again, prices are more expensive, but the brands are designer. The products they sell are standard Aveda products. Anything you would need from travel sizes to extra large shampoos, you can find it. The best part of the salon is the staff, everyone is so welcoming, friendly, and eager to please. Definitely stop by! read more

This is really a great salon. All the employees here are fabulous. By the way, Aveda doesn't make nailpolish because it isn't exactly a product they can formulate to be environmentally friendly. They use OPI here, a brand that you will find at any respectable salon. read more

Dianna at Salon Secrets did beautiful blond highlights and gave me a great cut. I don't think I was very clear about wanting to have the highlights frame my face and I didn't realize that she had not done that until I got home. I returned a few days later to see if I could have a few more foils added and they were very accommodating. Dianna fit me in an hour and a half later and fixed the issue at no additional cost. I can totally forgive the mistake - especially given their willingness to fix it - and will be going back. read more

Darcy gives an amazing facial and is SO knowledgeable when it comes to your skin. She is also a fabulous person who I thoroughly enjoyed talking to when I have been there. I left with a much better understanding of my skin, what was going on and what I needed, something that has been lacking with any other facial I have had in the past.
