So it's $12 to skate and they make you sign a waiver regardless of if you're skating or not. You can request songs, however they will play a county or rock version only. They have a play area a game room and a seating area where you can relax and eat. They sell items and they have a food court. The staff could use some customer service welcoming training. They are not friendly or helpful. They seem really uptight. This made the experience not as fun as it could have been. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot. It seems like they have adult skating nights and plenty of summer events. Overall, this is not the greatest skating rink. On summer day when there's no school in session, it was very much empty. I was planning on hanging out with my 2 friends we are all 16 and don't often go places with our parents for that reason. One of my white friends who didn't have skates got in without parents or anyone over the age of 21 but when I got up to the front they immediately asked if I had a parent with me I said no and they immediately turned me down and told me I couldn't go I explained that one of my two friends didn't have skates either nor a parent and they let him and they still refused to let me in a I was forced to leave and that same friend is still there and they have said nothing to him yet it's been about 30 minutes since this happened just to clarify the worker at the front was trying her best but who I'm assuming is the manager kept pushing and saying that I couldn't come read more

It's nice to have a decent rink in the area but I hate that this one is located so far away. There used p be a location on the North side of town, but I never cared for the fact that the floor was concrete. At least this location has hardwood floors. The parking lot was full when we went, so we had to park at the Lidl across the street. It's time for skates to expand their parking lot. They have adult skating on Thursday and Saturday nights I believe, and on a recent visit, the rink was jam packed. I don't own my own skates so I did have to rent them, but I was happy to see that they've invested in new skates since the last time I've been. Makes sense since that was years ago. They've also added a climbing situation for kids which I'm sure keeps them busy on family nights. Plenty of seating, good options and skate supplies. I have been at Kate's Skate quite a few times 1) for private skating lessons by Coach Steve 2) for the 1st on Oct 16th for 30s and up night from 7pm to 10pm. The place have alway been kept up when I was there. And the last couple of weeks. They have been remodeling the place in stages. From changing the carpet out to the new counter. The staffs have alway been kind to me. Since they help with putting on new wheels. Changing out my skates bearing and I even met the owner Bill. Who assisted with the new padding and shoelaces to my new skates. They are knowledgeable and Bill suggested that I can get a inexpensive gel shoe padding if I don't want to spend alot of money on theirs. However, the rather get the proper padding for my skates and not padding for shoes. Also I'm just more comfortable with Kate's products because they have been around for years. They kept the skaters safe and at peace when there are a large crowd. So this is definitely my go to for indoor skating. read more

Best family-owned business in Charlotte. I am an avid traveler and roller skater. I skate in Charlotte on average 8 times a month and across the country on average once a month. Kate's Skate's Skating Rink in Indian Trail is by far my favorite. It starts with the ownership. Billy is great owner and a great guy. He invests in his rink and it shows. In the three years that I've lived in Charlotte, I've seen him install new flooring, carpet, lighting and more. I love that I can pay for admission and concession with CashApp which eliminates the worry of losing credit cards or cash. Everyone is so friendly, helpful and hardworking to keep everything going even on the busiest nights and events. Kate's has two adult night sessions Thursdays (8-11pm$ and Saturdays (7-11pm)with a rotation of great local and guest Djs. There is even a monthly 30 and older session for us "seasoned" rollers. My kids were harassed every time they touched the wall to keep from falling. They weren't standing there holding onto it and talking, simply trying not to fall and holding it as they were going around the rink. Stevie scared them so much that they wanted to go home. This review is for the Gastonia location. I have been an avid customer for basically all of my life. As soon as I could walk my parents started taking me skating. I understand that polices change as with the times but today I am so appalled by this business that after over 20 years I will no longer be giving my business to Kate's or recommending them to anyone. I grew up with Stacy and Billy becoming basically my 2nd family and I'm not sure if Kate's is under different management or not but I would love for someone to explain to me why I am less than a month away from being 25 I am old enough to drink alcohol go to the club buy tobacco rent a car but I am not old enough to supervise my 16 year old brother at the skating rink? (He's old enough to drive himself places without supervision mind you). The little blonde haired teenager who was working today (Sunday March 3ird 2024 at 2:30pm) let a group of girls in where the parent stated he was not going to stay and supervise them. Followed by a teenage girl who had her own skates and did not have a parent to supervise her. But because I had no intentions of skating myself even though I was fully planning on sitting and supervising the entire time my brother was there we were turned away and denied entry. After years and thousands of dollars on admission concessions and customized skates and accessories I am so appalled that this business can make their own rules on who is an adult and old enough to sit and supervise a teenager when in reality nothing is going to change in less than 3 weeks other than my age going from 24 to 25. I used to come to Kate's all the time when I was a teen when it was on central Ave. I'm super happy they are still around and thriving. I recently went to adult skate night on Saturday. The DJ was definitely a vibe (I wish he played more 90s/2000s/2010s music bc of the age of the crowd but he definitely played some hits to bob to. My biggest complaint was the advanced skaters. Typically it's the vibe for less experienced skaters to skate closer to the wall and exits until they feel comfortable. We had one skater who was very uncomfortable but was trying. The advanced skaters almost knocked all of us down. They were in the middle on the outside it was very annoying. On top of that the DJ decided to call us out for standing on the wall helping our friend instead of calling out the ppl who were recklessly skating. If you not comfortable I recommend finding another time on Saturdays or day to come skating. Saturdays are not for inexperienced skaters or casual skaters. I am new to the Charlotte area from California and have been researching skating rinks to check out. After reading the story of how Kate's came about and reviews on the website I decided to try the Indian Trail location. I was looking forward to purchasing some new skates because several of the reviews talked about how helpful the staff was in helping choose which skates/ wheels to buy. I chose a Friday based on reviews stating it was a less busy day to go. My first impression when I walked in was great! The rink is decorated with bright colors and lights. There is a huge fan above the center of the rink which keeps it feeling cool. Our first stop was the "pro shop" to purchase sites we could use for indoors although we paid for rentals, we decided to just buy a pair we kept for indoors. Up to this point staff was very friendly. A nice gentleman helped us with skates. They didn't have much inventory for my size 8 women's but plenty to choose from for my niece who is a size 5. After I tried on 6 pairs amd had no luck with them fitting, I asked about the skates in the case that needed to be built. I was advised they were more expensive but I didn't mind, I just wanted my own. The gentleman went back and found my size. I proceeded to try them on. They fit!! I then asked for the accessories to build them and was told only the owner could put them together because he was certified. I said ok but then was told he was on vacation. At this point I was frustrated. But I paid for my niece's skates and proceeded to the rental counter to pick myself up some rentals. When I got to the counter, there were a couple gals returning skates so I waited. Once they were done the employee behind the counter sprayed them and out them back. You'd think he'd come back to the counter and offer to help me. No, ge came back to the counter and just went about his business. read more

Roller skating is a fun sport. However, you must skate at your own risk. Today, as was the cast on my last visit, someone was helped off the floor with an injury (both were women). If you take it easy and do your own thing, you should be okay. If you have not skated in years, you will feel it the next morning. All in all, you can skate all day long. When the birthday parties start, the place will quickly fill with kids. As the evening approaches, teenagers will pile in. This is rare fun that can only be had at a few places in the area but is well worth the trip. Oh - I love the light up inline skates! Not sure how to judge a skating rink but here goes. There are few things I like about this place. I like the fact that all kids love to skate and it's only $8 to get in. This keeps my youngest busy and it wears her out and expenses all that kid energy. Secondly the people watching is probably some of the best in the area. You'll find people there that take their skating skills a bit too seriously. You'll know who and what I'm talking about if you ever visit. The bad things are that they don't serve beer and the gameroom is utterly useless. Not only are the machines out of order, if you try and get tokens prepare to pay $1 for 1-2tokens. WHA??? Yep, it's broke....don't trust it! That being said this place would be a pretty good choice for a kids birthday party and I think they have packages that you can select where they will set it up for you. read more

Just about as bad of an experience as you could get: filthy, outdated, horrendous service, amenities are crappy (literally). Place should be burnt to the ground! Caution parents: this place should not be allowed to host children. Bathrooms are absolutely a disgrace. Urinals weren't working. Mid day and had no toilet paper in their dirty restrooms. Feces was on the floor for well over 2-3 hours until close. 3 requests to their people and 1 hour later and still no toilet paper and comments of "that's not my job and fingers being pointed at others. I don't think they clean the skates. I came here to skate and after a few hours of wearing their skates both of my legs ended up getting infected from wearing their skates. I don't think they clean their skates. No once have I seen them spray them down with disinfectant spray. Both of my legs are burning up right now and they are red all the way to my thighs. Never again am I coming here. I really hope that this won't be a big health issue as it's been 5 hours and I still feel a burning sensation on my legs. BEWARE! read more

I'm a fan of the old-school, get your butt off the couch activities. Skating is a great one. I've been going on Monday nights to skate for fitness and practice and it's half price admission - great deal at $2. Sometimes the weekends are crowded, but that's part of the fun. I have recently rediscovered Roller Skating! I wanted a way to exercise that wasn't as boring as the Gym so I got the Roller Skates from the attic and went skating at Kate's! My skates were in pretty bad shape so I took them to the Pro-Shop at Kates. For a reasonable price they replaced the bearings, wheels and cushions. I'm pretty pleased with the skate repair and the fact they didn't try to sell me equipment I didn't need. I enjoy going through the week where someone who hasn't roller skated in 10 years can regain some skill without dodging the teen crowd. The floor of the rink really needs to be refinished - it's warped and pretty rough around the edges. I love the fact that you can sit on the benches around the edge of the rink. The bathrooms are pretty good for a skating rink and the hot dogs are wonderful. The staff is friendly even though the tables are usually sticky. No complaints. I've been going every Tuesday and started bringing some friends. As an adult without kids - I feel right at home and everyone has been friendly. I'm enjoying the exercise. read more

The smell hits you when you walk in the door. It is a mixture of teen spirit, grimey carpet, stale pizza, mildew and god knows what else. But the fun doesnt stop there! Eight bucks on a Friday gets a six-yr-old all she can skate - but no beer for the parents?!?! OK - maybe this is signaling a problem I may have instead of a problem the rink has but I am sure I am not the only one that would like to have known prior! There is nothing wrong with the actual rink per se of course, it is utterly skatable and has a wall on one side for those that need a little help balancing. You get used to the smell after a while and you can sneak beer or wine in in an unassuming McDonalds cup BUT my major problem with this place is the 'arcade' believe it or not! At least half of the games were Out of Order and only half of those had signs on them indicating they were broken - so you didnt find out until you had put your money in and started swearing at the machine. In addition to that the token machine is broken - putting in a dollar should get you four tokens but the first time it got us two, the next got us four, a five dollar bill got us ten tokens. Ummmm no. This is straight robbery so the boyfriend went right to the cashier and asked politely for all of our money back which was returned without issue. Most parents figured out the right thing to do at this place since there is no beer and no games to play is to just drop their kids off and come and get them later. Well you cant do this with a six yr old. So we were just drinking out of our cup and people watching - the time does go surprisingly fast because there is a never ending parade of great people-watching. Went skating there today 3/22/19. Had a lot of fun with some friends and our kids. Skates were almost, if not, brand new. The place was clean and busy. The prices for skating were really good and comparable to other rinks. We all had a great time. My only complaint is/was that the floor on part of the rink was a mess. It was warped, the coating was peeling up, and it was almost like something had gouged and terribly scratched up. This made it a little difficult to skate in these areas, especially for our small new skaters. read more

I'm a roller skating rink snob. I take roller skating very seriously. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I took my daughter on a Sunday. The adult's admission was free with a paying child. It was very clean. I did not smell any foot odors when I walked in. The music was very good. They had a mix of pop and hip hop playing. We skated for about an hour. Afterwards, we bought a few tokens to play the arcade games that they had. After running out of tokens, my daughter went into the toddler area to climb the play gym. She is 3 and enjoyed it. That was an additional cost. We only stayed for a total of 2 hours. I think the cost was extremely reasonable. We did not rent their skates so I cannot comment on the quality of them. I took my two sons skating today but we had to leave early due to the rude and unprofessional staff. I got one of my kids a skatemate to assist him but someone took it after he went to the bathroom. He then was going around the rink while holding on to the wall when a staff member told him to stop touching the wall. He asked of he could hold it until he got to the exit but was told no. He then fell and hit his head. He is currently throwing up and is still saying his head hurts. Would it had been so hard to let him use the wall to get to the exit?
