I had the pleasure of spending time at Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail aka Charlotte, NC. Extreme ice center has something for everyone, I watched families with children as young as three years and even senior citizens all here enjoying skating and some just relaxing by the bar area, or sitting in a private area above the training ring area. This facility is huge, it host two separate colossal ice skating rings, it has a full-service bar on the second level and a nice size room which can be rented for events. When you walk into the building the skate counter is straight ahead, and FYI they have plenty of skates and a strict sanitizing process which assures that they take very good care of the skates. To the left of the entrance is a training ring where teams go to train, play and practice and to the right is the main ice-skating ring which has lots of different things going on; you can skate in pairs, and they have a glow in the dark skating session which is lots of fun! Oh yes, all skaters must sign. Waiver (safety first). Everyone at Extreme is helpful and friendly and although the facility is huge, they do a good job keeping it clean. read more

We are here most weekends, and sometimes during the week for youth hockey games. Extreme Ice is a good operation with loads of instruction, classes, rental equipment, birthday parties and their wonderful bar and snack bar upstairs. there is also a down stairs order window, but using the upstairs bar allows you access to balconies over each of the two main ice rinks. Service is generally at the bar or at the windows. Sometimes an employee will circulate taking orders. Their menu has grown over the past few years into a very nice assortment of sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers and pizzas. Prices are very reasonable. Nice people, good food, good portions and fast service. read more

People saying best figuring skating coaches where fired and have lost the program - I've been going there since 2008 when they opened they have had Olympic coaches and skaters since the start - "that coaches that where fired are new within the past few years. coaches that where fired where do to issues that they forgot to say in there posts . And there was a reason they where told to leave the rink Please tell the full truth instead of bashing "management " when they did the right thing sorry the coaches that were fired couldn't figure it out after getting several warnings to figure it out between them selfs . This place is huge they have a section for everyone they even have a bar upstairs and you can rent private areas I mean this would literally be the perfect place for a child's birthday! Extreme Ice center is a great play for free time, skating for individuals, families and friends. The center is huge and easily accommodates the needs for hockey tournaments and other large scale events. When you come here, you can bring your own skates or rent skates for $5 and admission is $10 for the whole day. I brought my daughter and her friend here and they loved it. They had a great time and there was plenty of space for them to "skates" or fall down! Extreme Ice also provides private training for people who would like to ice skate and they offer rentals for parties. A mistake that I made is not checking operating schedule because there are many events. If I could give this rink a zero, I would. The figure skating program, once the best in the area, has recently made the decision to fire all of the top-level coaches without warning to coaches and without explanation to parents and athletes. Nearly all of the accolades Extreme Ice Center has in figure skating came from the students of Mathew Gates, Sasha Zaretsky, Kelly Gates, and Vitaliy Danylchenko--World Champions, Olympians, and National Champions. The current figure skating director Jenny Gwynn and the acting general manager Brendan Logan are poor facility managers, poorer communicators with weak conflict resolution skills. I would think twice about enrolling in any figure skating programming as the directors have disrespected multiple coaches and athletes who have been training for national and world championships without warning or justification. If they treat top level employees this poorly, you can bet they will also treat your athletes/children with same level of disrespect. I highly recommend looking elsewhere even for Learn to Skate and Hockey because mismanagement knows no bounds and it affects all programming under the direction of an immature, intemperate, poorly prepared, and petty management Edit to your response: "I'm sorry, Anna. I've never had an issue with you. You have gone above and beyond for my family. I feel sadness you are stuck here. I hope you escape this unjust place and find a facility who is dedicated to real athletes and sports development instead of a quick buck. read more

This place is great! The seating area is comfortable and warm; separated from the chilly rink area. Plenty of skates to rent (and it good condition!) The area is generally clean but could benefit from an employee going around periodically to sweep up trash off the floor instead of standing at the front desk chit-chatting. The upstairs bar has surprisingly delicious food. Adults can grab a drink and sit indoors or at the bar overlooking the ice rink. Pricing was reasonable. We will be back! read more

I haven't been to any other ice rinks in the Charlotte area, so I can't really compare, but I came here to cheer on a friend in a figure skating competition and was pleased with the facilities. To start, they have two rinks, which is definitely nice if there are multiple events going on that day. In this case, there was a TON going on and there were people every where, but it was still easy to navigate around, watch skaters, find a place to sit, and find restrooms. The best part about this place is the bar/restaurant upstairs. Not only is there better food than the little cafeteria window downstairs, but there's a really good beer selection and you can take it into the upstairs hallway that overlooks the bigger rink. They even have a little window out to that hall! I thought it was a nice facility despite being 30+ min away from home. Maybe I'll return one day to skate myself. read more

They recently open a restaurant/ bar in the second floor where you can over see the games and/or performances too. They also have a great gym and party room. This place has the friendliest staff ever. I assume they're family owned or family managed. The only one who wasn't friendly was the dog, who was too shy to say hello . We arrived on Sunday at first, and the family was there but the facility was closed. We should have confirmed the hours. It was totally our fault. The owners saw the kids were totally disappointed and gave them complimentary tickets to come back whenever they wanted. We enjoy coming to this facility. It's never loud or overly crowded. The kids seems to have a good time even though they are in middle school now (and it takes a lot to impress them.) Every time I come here I joke that I want the bear at skate rental. I think they should start selling the mascot bears in the store. The cantina is closed due to Covid but the food is pretty good too. read more

My husband coaches youth hockey and I visited this rink for the first time this weekend! Having seen numerous rinks over the years in NC, NY and Canada, I have to say that this is one of the NICEST facilities I have ever been to!!!!! Some things that stood out: -2.5 sheets of ice. -Upper heated viewing area with restaurant. The rink itself wasn't EXTREMELY cold like some I'd been to, but I still brought a jacket. -Good sized lobby area. -Very clean! The place was super busy! Being part of a hockey family, you spend a lot of time at ice rinks...this is one of my favorites. In addition to the bleachers surrounding the rinks, there is also an upstairs area where they have a full bar and some food choices. Like the other reviewers have mentioned, there are two places to skate in the Charlotte area, Extreme and the Ice House. While the Extreme facilities are more up to date and have two surfaces, the people that run the rink are an absolute joke. Starting at the top I have heard the owner (I found out he was the owner from the front desk) using fowl offensive language numerous times within the earshot of children. From what I can have experienced, the skating program is being run in the ground and has the worst customer service. The sports bar upstairs is a cool concept until you realize that all the food comes from the horrible concession stand fryer and grease griddle downstairs. I felt sick for two days following consumption of a burger I made the mistake of ordering, the wings I tried certainly did not help either. I have no clue how this place is even still in business. Take my advice, steer clear of this place, there is another option in Pineville, GO THERE! read more

This is a terrific place in so many ways. They have great hockey, figure skating, broom ball, and other programs. The lessons and access to instruction at all levels is wonderful. Either that or you're just plain old nasty. I mean, really -- if you had a bad experience at this business -- does it really matter at all what the people who run it did before? Great place to go if you're from New England/Canada. lol. My family has taken me here plenty of times and have always been treated great by everyone. It has a two rinks, a bar, and gymnasium. Some of the best ice I've skated on. Which is pretty impressive considering the humidity, heat, etc. The public skate on the weekend can get pretty packed but weekdays and when school is in session you'll have the ice nearly to yourself. Would love to see some stick n puck time here though. read more

Great facility with the 2 1/2 sheets of ice, great tavern up stairs in between the 2 main rinks and the pro shop with its knowledgeable staff and equipment as far as the eye can see. The people at Extreme Ice are awesome! They are helpful and friendly. If we don't feel like skating with our kids, we can go upstairs and sit on the balcony and watch them with a cold drink (or warm drink) in our hands. We even had our daughters birthday party at Extreme Ice. We love it. read more

Sadly and much to the disappointment of northern transplants, there are only two ice rinks in the Charlotte area - and both are a good drive outside the city. Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail is the better of the two (the other is the Pineville Ice House). Extreme Ice Center is a pretty new facility and has two rinks. If you're looking to go to a public skate or take lessons, I'd go with this rink. read more

I rented the back room upstairs behind the bar for a birthday party. I had the rink also cater the event. It was a great experience. The food was great, and the service was outstanding. Great venue for any type of party or get together. A one stop shop with the bar right there, great food available and a hostess to take care if any other issues that may come up. I will do this again for my next party, and recommend it to anyone. Daun is great to work with and Julie was perfect behind the bar. Took great care of me and my friends.
