While the monthly cost at The Little Gym may be slightly higher, the overall experience is significantly better. My son is three years old, and like many children his age, listening is still a skill we're working on. I initially thought Perfect Balance would be a great place for him to develop new skills and improve focus. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. During one class, the instructor became visibly irritated when my son got distracted or didn't follow instructions. At the end of class, she had him line up with the other children to receive a stamp for participation. She even dipped the stamp in the ink pad, only to look him in the eye and tell him he wasn't getting a stamp because he hadn't listened. I understand the importance of teaching children accountability, but I strongly believe the instructor's approach was unnecessarily petty and inappropriate for a three-year-old. If she felt it was important for him not to receive a stamp, she could have spoken to me directly. I would have respected that. But having him go through the motions--only to publicly deny him a small reward--felt more like punishment than a teaching moment. Because of this experience, I ended our membership effective immediately. We will continue going to The Little Gym, where the instructors are patient, supportive, and understand that children--especially toddlers--have good and bad days. They work with him, not against him. One final thought for any parent considering Perfect Balance: my son also participates in Soccer Shots, where I regularly see other three-year-olds wander off, lose focus, or struggle to follow instructions. Yet, at the end of practice, those children still receive stamps and stickers--not because they performed perfectly, but because they showed up and tried. Why? Because they're three, they're still learning and that deserves encouragement, not shame.

Their intake paperwork omits mandatory statutory cancellation disclosures required near the signature line under N.C.G.S. § 66-119, and the $508.80 fee exceeds state penalty caps under N.C.G.S. § 66-120. When we raised these issues, management refused a refund. This matter was reported to the NCDOJ Consumer Protection Division. First of all, the silks smelled so bad, like sweat, and it was disgusting to use them. Second, there was a giant dead roach lying right next to the mat area and no one removed it during the class. Also, it was my first class, and almost the whole group were first-timers. I expected everyone to have their own spot with silks, but I had to share a spot with two more people. So for about 2/3 of the class I was just standing and waiting for others to take their turn. If I go to Pilates, I don't share a reformer with anyone - that should be the default. I'm pretty tall, and when I arrived, I randomly picked the silks without knowing they were different heights. But once we started doing exercises, I realized my head was bumping into the floor. I asked the instructor if the silks were different heights, and she said yes, then told me I could try to switch with someone from a different group if they were willing (but those groups were friends who came together). She didn't seem to care at all, in the beginning, she could have told me to choose a different height of silks since she saw I was tall. The nice part was the cute stickers everyone could choose after class, and the fact that they give you a list of the exercises you practiced so next time you can try something new. But overall, they really need to work on customer service and cleaning!!
