The most delicious BLT on fresh ciabatta bread! Came back to get them twice last week! Nice seating surrounded by flowers out in front of the shop.

One of the several anachronistic little general stores that have managed to survive on the island, Katama General Store has change quite a bit over the years. It's still small and kind of dumpy looking from the outside but over the years has acquired more of a gourmet flavor to it. They still have great coffee and freshly baked pies, cookies, breads and scones and still offer locally grown fresh produce but now offer more of a selection of touristy gifts. They will also prepare meals for the busy tourist on the go. Not necessary a bad thing but the store is no longer as quaint and rustic as it once was. It's not all junk food, the store has great sandwiches and salads and a nice variety of juice and healthy drinks. It's a great place to stop on the way down or back from south beach since it is the only place serving food or even water between Edgartown and the beach. You can sit outside and enjoy a sandwich, some fresh produce or more importantly something to drink while you watch the world go by. I usually am dry as the sand by the time I return from hiking along the south beaches and this place is always a welcome sight. When I feel like I'm about to expire of thirst, it appears like an oasis in the desert. Sure, it's not cheap but then nothing on the Vineyard is. Even though the store has unfortunately changed a bit and now caters more to the tourist population it still manges to retain some of the old-fashioned, personality of the general stores of the years gone by. Always an enjoyable place to stop and eat, sit, talk and just enjoy the island.

“This place is definitely not the cheapest place - but nor is the Vineyard, so I deal with it.”

Have always heard about this restaurant, but never in a "you've got to go there" way. So I am here…read moreto say "You've got to go there!" The restaurant is charming & beautiful. It's an old house (I think) so there are a lot of rooms, but they flow into each other so you never feel isolated. The decor is beautiful, with gorgeous lighting fixtures and drapery. Our server, Mary Beth, could not have been more friendly, helpful or attentive. She's a star! Started with perfect martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives, and their delicious complimentary bread, that seemed to have a swirl of pesto in it. We had a dozen oysters, and then half a dozen more because they were amazing! Crisp Menemsha Spearpoings, with a side of pomegranate mignonette (loved it) and a yuzu cream sauce (so different and very tasty.) We also shared the seared Fois gras which was really good but I would have liked a smaller but thicker piece. I had the duck breast, and it was superb! So moist on the inside with a crisp exterior, and seasoned so well. The raviolis that accompanied it was also soft yet crisp, and yummy! My husband loved his lamb chops (and I loved the potatoes that came with them!) Our guest had her regular order of short ribs. (She dines there often, and suggested we go there. So glad we did!) Finished with a desert of Eton Mess...dreamy meringue, white chocolate & fruit, and the sea salt caramel ice cream. Divine. We are definitely returning!

The inside reminded me of restaurants in France with the simple table setting and minimalistic decor. Our server was so sweet and attentive, carefully explaining the menu to us. The oysters had two different pairings and we loved both of them. I had the sauteed potato gnocchi and it was delicious. The gnocchi had the perfect texture and all of the vegetables were so refreshing and well-cooked. My fiancee had the lamb chops and it's the best ones he's had. Perfectly cooked, rich sauce, and creamy mashed potatoes.
