One of the most appalling and blatantly racist experiences I've ever witnessed happened at The Fish House near the Martha's Vineyard airport. A friend of mine, who has a severe dairy allergy, clearly and calmly told the woman at the counter "no cheese." Not a preference--an allergy. When the sandwich came out covered in cheese, she politely explained the issue. Instead of correcting it, the staff questioned her repeatedly--asking over a dozen times if she was sure she said no cheese--and threatened to make her pay again if it was her mistake. Eventually, the manager agreed to remake the sandwich. But when it was brought back, the woman slammed it on the table and said, "Here's your sandwich. Don't ever come back, n**r." I was stunned. All we wanted was a meal made safely--something that wouldn't send my friend to the ER--and instead we were met with open hostility and a violent racial slur. This wasn't just poor customer service. It was aggressive, discriminatory, and outright dangerous. No one should be treated this way. I'll never return, and I strongly urge others to consider whether this is the kind of business they want to support. read more

The service is awesome and the fish Is fresh - what more can you ask for! We have been regulars for a bit and usually grab fish but had the MOST AMAZING dry-aged tomahawk steak and the quality for the price was outstanding!! Definitely get over and grab yourself some deliciousness. read more

We are locals who rarely go out on the island, but we decided to treat ourselves only to be sorely disappointed. I placed a very large order to The Fish house around 4:30 expecting there to be a summer rush giving plenty of time for pick up by 5:00. My order came through as being done within 18 minutes which shocked me but started to head that way. MV in July accompanied by copious amounts of rain meant insane traffic on the commute to pick up our food. I arrived at 5:20 to find my bag of food slapped on a shelf in the front lobby of the restaurant. Mind you, I fully expected that my hot food wouldn't be 100% when I got there. However, I did NOT expect for our RAW TUNA BOWL to have sat at the bottom of the bag under steaming hot food. This is a heath violation if I have ever seen one. I understand it's busy in the summer, but if you run an establishment that costs people $100's to eat there I expect someone to hand me my food when I arrive and at least keep the raw fish at a safe temperature until pick up. I went back into the store to discuss this with the manager and ask for a refund but was simply told there's a "4 hour period where food can't go bad".. my husband owned a restaurant for many years and this is a poor example of quality business. Located mid island at the airport, the fish house shares a parking lot with MV wine and spirits (another great business) and the Black Sheep. So you can take care of everything in one stop. The staff at the Fish House are friendly and helpful. I think this is a family run business with great connections to the fishermen who bring their catch to the island. The Fish House even raised a large sum of $$ from their customers and friends for a local fisherman that had a boating accident. This is especially important for the community. Nice sushi rice with a good amount of good raw tuna, seaweed salad and avocado. I had a tint taste of Korean chicken sandwich--very good. Thought was best item for value and taste. Fried oysters were way overpriced, but we liked them. The fish tacos were fine as were the fries. Bought some interesting spice mixes made in Maine. Wish we had known daily sandwich special was blackened swordfish. Would definitely return. Next to Black Sheep eatery and a liquor store. Many necessities at this Airport Road spot! A beautiful little fish house that is both very clean and full of great looking fish. I bought multiple items, even a pre-made shrimp summer roll that was good. There's a nice variety of fish, all local, along with steamers, oysters, and shrimp. We bought poke bowls for lunch, and am so-so on them. The rice was good, but the bowl is mostly a little fish and a lot of rice. Poke was a very small amount vs any place I've ever purchased bowls (yes, other nice fish houses). There just wasn't much too it. I took a photo before I ate it and have to say that it photographs well, I just wish there was more than 8 pieces of fish. The location at MVY airport between MV Wine & Spirits and Black Sheep Provision Co, is handy to up island residents. Shaving 20 minutes of the trip to Edgartown is appreciated! Fish house offers delicious fresh fish. Yes, when you're supporting a small business and local fishermen that offer a local catch, there's going to be a bit of a price premium. However, it's well worth it. They had a soft shell crab bao special, and it was delicious. I had never had soft shell crab before and was a bit nervous, but I enjoyed every bite! We eagerly awaited the reopening of The Fish House this summer and it is even better than we expected. Everything we have purchased there and eaten has been incredibly fresh and delicious. Their lobster rolls are amazing, shrimp are gigantic, and fish the freshest you'll get on the island. Go there if you are cooking your own or want gourmet quality prepared food. I had planned to get Oysters BUT for $19.00 for a box the size of a match box toy, the medium size for $35.00 which would have been Giordano's for a fraction of the price there in OB since 1930 and the price for a Large container there was No Price posted because if you have to ask, you cant afford it.. We got sandwiches and the sandwiches we got had so much bread we had plenty for the birds in our yard and we had to look really close to see who's sandwich was who's! Believe me never again and I would bet my last dollar they wont be open year round, nor next summer So much for island `Natives` trying to to support new island business! We have been picking up fresh fish to prepare at home all summer. It has been fresh, flavorful, and fantastic. Tonight we decided to try the Lobster Bake Weekend Special. For $30 per person, we were impressed. Each meal included a cracked Lobster (at least 1 1/2 lb), steamers, mussels, potatoes, sausage, and corn. It came with butter and lemon was hot, and conveniently packed.It was so good!!! We could not have cooked this meal at home for much less than $30 per person.Next time we have friends over, this will be what we serve. Add a nice loaf of bread and dessert and everyone will be happy. read more

This place is easily one of the best hidden gems on the vineyard! We go as often as we can & have never been disappointed - just got the Smoked Brisket sandwich special, it was literally amazing, one of the best sandwiches I have eaten in many years!! Also on that list is their Smoked Salmon Club sandwich I got last time we were here. Huge chunk of seared salmon & thick cut smoked bacon, wow, just wow. I'm not even a salmon person but I may be converted now! & last but not least, the Fish House Pokè Bowl with tuna is possibly the best thing on the menu! My wife gets it every time we come, it's like a giant sushi roll in a bowl with always fresh ingredients, jalapeño infused tobiko, & a killer seaweed salad. I could eat this all day long! Very friendly staff, & conveniently centrally located by the airport, I don't need to go into town & struggle to find parking mid-summer.
