Huevos rancheros were nothing special. Coffee was very good. Nice ambience. Service could be better - when they have a lot of customers the staff seems frazzled. You have to try the LAtina Sandwich -Sweet 'N' Spicy Bacon, two fried eggs, housemade tomatillo sauce, melted local Amish cheddar on toasted sourdough. They make their own bacon. It is spicy at first then becomes sweet. This place is very "in" with the whole hipster vibe that is happening in Columbus. I am impressed and proud that this place represents my home town so well. I had the well known katalina Latina sandwich when I came here after seeing it posted on instagram. It was as delicious as it looks. I avoided coming here for a while because I am more savory than sweet and katalinas is most well known for their pancake balls, but their savory section is pretty much the entire menu which has many many amazing options and I look forward to coming here again to try some of their other stuff. Love the hole in the wall environment and patio and free parking! Also, I did try the pancake balls as well and they were amazing, not quite what I expected they were way better and gooey and filled with Nutella, I highly recommend this place. read more

Finally got to try Katalina's! Met a girlfriend for breakfast and it was the perfect place to catch up. It is much smaller than I pictured inside with just a few tables and several high top bar seats. We were lucky and got a "bar" spot which was really cute. Obviously in the summer time it can fit many more people outside but today was a cold, rainy day. I had the hens-in-a-basket. The sourdough toast was a good mix of toasted and soft and the brussels slaw was a unique side. The bacon was also crispy and delicious. Highly recommend the pancake balls with pumpkin butter and I really like their avocado toast since it's not overly layered with a bunch of other stuff other than avocados and pumpkin seeds. I'm happy to seat myself, find my own menu, which was located immediately to the left when I came in, ordering was simple and straight forward, and throwing my waste away was the least I could do for the awesome food. TIPPING IS NOT MANDATORY. It seems others had issues navigating the iPad when paying. Simply select "0" when choosing what amount to tip. I personally choose zero because I believe in tipping in cash. Truly an excellent and unique experience, loved the food, and I'll be coming back again and again. What a cool place! Seems to always be packed and a friend and I decided to go here for brunch. The line to order was long but that was expected. I ordered the pancake balls and a Mexican coca cola. Seating outside is great but I feel there are a few too many people for how many seats there are. We managed to get an umbrella and waited about 10-15 for our food to come. My pancake balls came with bacon, and although I'm not a huge bacon fan... This bacon was AMAZING. Thick and so flavorful... I would go back just for that. Forgive me if I am about to buck the system here.... But I was not a huge fan of the pancake balls. A little awkward to eat when the inside filling was blazing hot and the outside was ready to eat. Sort of made for a killing taste buds experience. Oh well. Overall, this place is really cool and it looks like they have plenty of things I want to try on their menu. Went here because I heard very good things about it. Went here on a Saturday and it wasn't crazy busy but since it was out first time here we didn't know how to order or where the line was. It took us a few minutes to understand their process which is why I gave them a 4 instead of 5 stars. Wish they had a sign of what to do. Anyhow, lets talk about the food. I ordered the pancakes balls with sweet and spicy bacons (you can order regular bacon of veggie sausage). Wow was that delicious. You can add fillings to your balls fillings includes Nutella, dulce de leche or Cooper's Mill pumpkin-apple butter but I opted just plains balls. My husband ordered the Award-Winning Breakfast Tacos which I guess won first-place in a city-wide contest and he really enjoyed that. The food was very good and I can't wait to try the other options on their menu. Will we back for sure once the weather gets warmer so I can sit outside. read more

I often find myself standing in the down-the-sidewalk line for Katalina's on sunny Saturdays or Sundays. Every time I stand out there sweating, I think to myself "is this food really worth it?" It. Always. Is. I've tried almost everything on the menu and I have no complaints. The ONLY thing I would change about the restaurant is the limited seating. I had been told by a lot of friends to check out Katalina's once I moved back to Columbus. I'm a sucker for breakfast places. Not to mention I kept catching intel on the magical pancakes balls. A friend and arranged to catch up and grab lunch in the mid-afternoon. Unfortunately, I had to scout out a table for 10 minutes or so because it was so busy. But once my friend arrived, we managed to find something and ordered. The pancake balls were indeed as great as foretold. Our other orders were good but not as much as what had brought us there. My wife and I had lunch here last Saturday afternoon and we both enjoyed it very much. This was our first visit to Katalina's and we had to be coached a bit by others standing in line, but we were not there for long and were soon sitting outside, enjoying the day and having a very nice meal. My wife ordered the Southern Fried Salata, which is a fancy name for a fried chicken salad. I ordered the Mazatlan Slow Roasted Pork & Egg sandwich. We also each ordered an iced tea. We quickly found a nice table to sit at and looked around at the neighborhood and at some of the other customers and we saw everyone...college kids, hipsters, families, couples, and more. We also noticed that the line to place an order was getting long, so we were really glad we showed up when we did. The one odd thing was the iced tea we ordered, as it had no ice. The drinks were cold, just not iced. We asked a passing waitress for some ice and she stopped, had to think about it for a second and then said "Let me see if we have any, as our ice machine can be hit or miss" and about 3 minutes later she slid a small glass of ice over to us. This was really our only issue with this place and why it did not receive a fifth star. The food soon arrived and my wife's salad looked spectacular and my sandwich was huge. She dug in and hardly said a word while eating, which usually means her choice was a good one. I on the other hand, wanted her to try a bite of the excellent sandwich in front of me, but she was too engrossed with her pieces of fried chicken to pay any attention to me. We took our time, wrote our names on the table (pens were included to the table offerings) and happily devoured our lunches. We want to go back again and try the breakfast menu, as it looked great. By far one of the best tomato soups and grilled cheeses I have ever had! The soup doesn't stray too far from what you'd expect a good hardy tomato soup to be ... after all you don't want too much change just a great version...and the pepitas offer a delightful crunch and texture. The grilled cheese is a great interpretation of an infamous classic. Savory and sweet. The right cheeses and a small hint of sweet to take you somewhere new. The breakfast sandwich is both familiar and new at the same time with a unique taste that will beg you to want to try it again and again trying to figure out its mysteries. food tastes great, but there's not a very big menu. you obviously have to try their pancake balls. they really need to open a location with more space though; there's never any seating, long waits, and it generally just feels very chaotic when you're getting seated there. i would probably go more often if i knew i could get a seat, so i just wish they'd add another location. during covid restrictions the rule was 10 people at most to a table but they wouldn't allow us to sit even 6 people at a table, only 5 even though we called ahead to make sure it was okay and our waitress even pulled up for the chair for us. an employee yelled at us for moving the chair, which we didn't do. kind of made us feel uncomfortable for the rest of the meal as it felt tense between this employee and our table. I SO wish we had restaurants like this in DC! I went to Katalina's for brunch on my last day visiting a friend in Columbus, and I didn't want to leave. Katalina's is the perfect mix of cute, fun character, really great outdoor seating, and amazing food. I mean....nutella pancake balls?? How can you beat that?? I don't normally like waiting in lines, but the line for Katalina's (which I assume is there on most weekends) is worth it, especially because it does move pretty quickly. It took me a while to realize that Katalina's operated similar to a Panera's - wait in line to order your food, take a number, and then find a table to sit at to wait for someone to deliver your food. It's very much frowned upon to sit down before you've ordered, so don't be that person -- although it's tempting, chances are there will be tables available once you've ordered as well. The timing does actually work out very well. The menu at Katalina's made it hard to choose any one item in particular, because they all looked great, but luckily my friend was willing to split one egg-based dish and one carb-based dish (which I think is definitely the way to go). Even choosing just those two was hard, but we settled on the hens in the basket -- two eggs cooked in the cut-out center of 2 slices of sourdough bread, served with hashbrowns and veggie sausage. It was amazing -- the bread that surrounded the eggs was great, so in combination with the egg yolk...mmm, amazing. I almost didn't want to give the other half to my friend. The veggie sausage had tons of flavor, and best of all, it was all made with fresh, local ingredients! How can you do better than that? Oh yeah...the nutella pancake balls. The french toast option was also very tempting, but I just couldn't say no to nutella pancake balls. They even come with sweet and spicy bacon, which my friends assured me was amazing. They were right -- now that I'm remembering all this again, it makes me want to fly to Columbus right now. The nutella pancake balls are just what they sound like - pancake dough with plenty of nutella (they didn't skimp out on any) and syrup on top. The bacon was both sweet and spicy, definitely like nothing I've ever had before. In addition to all of that, Katalina's had great coffee and I loved the way they had it out for self-serve. My friend asked for a cup with ice so she could make iced coffee. I went with regular coffee, but I had everything I needed in the self-serve area. The whole interior of Katalina's looks like a combination of all of the cute decorations you'd find on Pinterest. It's really just adorable -- even the bathroom. They have chalkboard walls with chalk that you can use to leave your own message, and most importantly, the bathroom was very clean. I can't believe that I've visited my friend in Columbus 4 times and this was the first time I've been to Katalina's -- I'm pretty sure I'll demand we go there every time I visit in the future. Now, I know that filling my belly is not the same as filling my soul, but both make me feel warm and fuzzy inside...hey, don't judge me! Best Sandwich EVER!!!! EVER!!!!! A friend took me to Katalina's for the first time Monday. We arrived around 2:30 and there were about 5 other people there. The girl at the counter was helpful and kind and made good suggestions. I ordered the Mazatlan Pork sandwich, which she didn't recommend as her favorite, but as her least favorite, but said it was everyone else's favorite. All I read was slow cooked pork, fried egg, aioli, cheese, avocado. I was sold. It took about 10-15 minutes for our stuff to come out, but when it did, it looked great. The old world Italian was long hearty cut of bread and perfect for the heartiness of the sandwich. I took one bite an thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I'll I've thought about since yesterday was that sandwich and when can I get another one. My friend ordered the girl's recommendation of the avocado wrap and it looked awesome, huge and creamy with a ton of avocado! He also order tortilla soup, which was just OK, but garnished with sour cream and avocado. Although counter service, the staff was friendly, helpful, and even went out of the way to get the self serve water for an elderly man. They also came by and picked up our trash for us. For everything, it was $23 and so worth every penny. I can't wait to come back. I'll probably get takeout though because when I left there I smelled like food and I hate that. But, I'd risk it for that sandwich any day! read more

Goodness! Why didn't anyone tell me about this gem sooner? Went here for brunch today with some friends and it knocked my socks off. I had heard about the pancake balls with nutella (I know, right? That's all it took to sell me too) and they were even better than I could have imagined. Pair it with some mango tea and I cannot imagine a better breakfast. Definitely on par with what they're charging. The only thing I can think of to improve it was the space. Katalina's is working with such a small space that it was tricky and a bit stressful to find a place to eat. They are wonderful at ringing people up and getting orders, but with only a handful of tables and a patio, seating during the winter is a bit tricky. I encourage you not to let this keep you away, but maybe keep this in mind if you go when you are ravenous. In short, I am looking forward to many more trips to Katalina's and experiencing their lunch soon! read more

The food is good. Lots of unique flavors. We dug the breakfast tacos with corn on the cob, nice and tasty. The Mexican French toast was alright, and the sweet and spicy bacon was pretty good but not the best bacon. The most disappointing aspect about Katalinas is the portion size to price ratio. The portions are too small AND the prices are too high, plain and simple. They give 3 tacos in a meal, but it really should be 4; these tacos aren't that big. Plus the corn cob is more like a half cob. We paid $25 and got about $14 worth of food I've been to plenty of equally tasty (or even better) brunch places where you get much more food for much less money, so I can't see the justification here. read more

The wife and I finally got around to trying this Yelp darling. . . We rolled into Katalina's around 12:30 on a Saturday. The line was way out the door and I immediately felt old, and maybe not hip enough to eat here. I mean, none of these people would even use the word "hip." Here we were, without even a lap dog eating with us. Would we be served? Could I feign enough worldly indifference to fit in? Well, we sucked it up and ordered. While I was worried about the line, the wait and the ability to get a table - all of that worked itself out without issue. The line moves reasonably quickly and there always seemed to be a seating option open for people coming off the line. I opted for the Hens in a Basket and the wife went for the big burrito (substituting Chorizo for green peppers). The substitution was easy, no eye rolling at all! The food was very good. While breakfast foods aren't rocket science, I did appreciate the uniqueness of the sweet and spicy bacon (very nice kick). Being gluttons, of course we had to top our meal off with the pancake balls (we opted for Nutella). Holy crap those little pancake balls are delicious!!! If I were just rating those, this would easily be five stars! My only real complaint with Katalina's is the lack of table service. While they do bring your food to the table, there's no follow-up. I'm an iced tea guy and the inability to get a refill from a server (or have them bring me a cup of ice) just makes me cranky. I also had to go hunting for a knife for the wife (our table was out of them) and a straw for myself. I've been lucky enough to have Katalina's a couple blocks away from me for years, but I've slacked off on my visits over the past 12 months. I've had the pleasure of seeing them transform the menu to what it is now, and I've never been let down with my choices. We decided to go around 2 pm in the afternoon on Saturday, aka the best time to go here on the weekend if you want to avoid crazy lines, and there was only a few people in line in front of us. We went with the pork and egg sandwich, breakfast tacos with chorizo, and a side of guacamole. Now, I've been here often, especially on it's busy days, and for some reason, it seemed to take way longer than usual to get our food, like at least a half hour. Not only that, but several people were coming back up to the counter to ask where their food was, and one came back up to let them know they had forgotten all of the toppings on their tacos, besides the meat. I was getting a bit restless, and they appeared to have quite a few people working, so I'm not sure what the deal was. They seemed to be running out of sides which isn't good if you're still open for another 2 hours. Anywho, we finally got our food, and we took it to go, and I made sure everything was there. It was! Hallelujah! By 2:30 without breakfast, we were starving. The pork and egg was stellar as always, and I love their tacos as a whole, but I'm not sure if I loved the chorizo. It tasted more Italian than Mexican, not like chorizo at all. It was my first time trying the guacamole, and my girlfriend and I thought it was solid, although they had to make it on the spot, since they were out, and they didn't give us a whole lot but whatever. Overall, the food here is always awesome for the most part, and I'm hoping the service today was just a fluke. I'm not sure why they were running out of sides that could easily be made on the spot but maybe they just had a crazy morning and didn't have time. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, since the majority of my experiences have been wonderful. If you're from out of town, it's a great place to grab brunch. Katalina's is one of those gems that you might not always think about first, but when the name gets brought up that's the end of the conversation. Nestled in the depths of Victoria Village, Katalina's appears like a roadside bodega, lights shining, happy people sitting out on the large deck enjoying colorful food, very inviting but with a touch of mystery. If you hadn't asked a local or consulted yelp, it would be a fairly random place to stop. But good god stop the car immediately and go inside. Pancake balls are a rare delicacy that will literally cause you to pause mid bite and let out a long, disgusting noise. The kind of noise you hear only on cooking shows or gratuitous soft core pornos... you might even scare yourself with how indulged you actually become. But this is food we're talking about so don't be frightened just finish the pancake ball and move on to the main course. Personally I love the fact that they serve breakfast all day because Brinner is one of the most magical meals you can have. So good. Admittedly had not been here since it was a sandwich shop, and boy has the menu changed! The restaurant is cramped as ever, but what they pump out of the tiny kitchen is amazing. I had the Biscuits & Veggie Sausage Gravy, and I don't know how they managed to get so much flavor out of something as simple as biscuits and gravy. The brussels sprouts hash is creative and equally tasty. They only have one kind of coffee at a time, but that's all you need, bc it's awesome.
