KaSpace is so disorientingly exhilarating. When you first enter, it's easy to mistake it for a high-end boutique (with its beauty products on display) or posh spa (with its soothing music and a fragrant smell that lingers in the air). It's only when you see the menu board and coffee / baked goods bar that you get confirmation that, yes, this is the right place and yes, they do serve food. Once we got our bearings, we zeroed in on our meal and got: - Kevin's Breakfast: If it's named after the owner (who makes it himself), you've got to try it. This was scrambled eggs, tempeh bacon, hashbrown and salad served in what can be described as a high-end tupperware container. Well executed standard breakfast fare. - Ackee Brunch: Loved this. Jamaican scrambled ackee with peppers, plantains, hashbrown and salad, we were warned by Kevin that it could be spicy. It was, but in the best way - flavourful, tasty, a good kick to the tastebuds. - Carrot Cake: This might possibly be my most favourite carrot cake in the city. I don't know how else to describe it but to say it tasted like Christmas. - Banana Bread: OMG so good! The banana bread itself was moist, but it's the coconut (?) cream cheese icing that put it over the top. - Lychee Cactus Pear juice: Refreshing, not overly sweet, strong lychee flavour. Kevin and Iyana are so welcoming, creating a space that makes you feel calm and open. Sounds a bit dramatic, yes. And the more cynical side in me might say KaSpace is pretentious and overpriced. But you know what? That's its beauty and power: it fills you with such a positive vibe that you can't help but enjoy yourself while you're there. If you are reading this, you need to go there. Don't ask questions, just go. I have never felt more welcome at an establishment in my entire life. Oh, and the food is bomb. Made with love, these vegan and vegetarian dishes hit the spot and warm the soul. Even the customers are friendly and welcoming! There is a cozy seating area in the basement that holds about 6 people. Go early if you want a seat. I'm sure their takeout is just as tasty! I know I'll be back. What a fabulous find - tasty healthy food prepared with creative care by Kevin (owner/ chef)! I feel so blessed that we stumbled upon this brunch place on weekend stroll along Leslieville. Thank you Google search..haha. At first we thought we were in the wrong place since the store front was filled with spa and food market items. The menu on the wall only shows beverages and pastries. THANK GOODNESS we asked if they had hot meals..they do! We were so impressed with the taste of the breakfast (yes it'd smaller and pricier but quality was superb). I loved how they served in reusable tin boxes that kept food warm. I look forward to coming back to try the lunch / dinner choices. Menu is limited but beautifully curated. Kevin cooks everything fresh and with care. He checked up on us a couple of times to make sure we were pleased with everything. I felt I was eating the meal in his home. What totally blew my mind were the healthy desserts. You MUST try the homemade carrot cake (you will not want to share) and the banana cake (this tasted like Christmas love). The cafe is designed very well! While they have a full breakfast menu, I only tried Americano and chocolate chip cookie. Both were very good, the Americano was perfectly balanced flavor! They also a little play area den for kids with some books, which is a plus. I will definitely visit again to try breakfast sometime. read more

I'm not a vegetarian, and typically prefer meals with meat as I think of vegetarian meals as less tasty, filling, and satisfying in general (not saying this is true - just sharing my preconceived notions based on my experiences), however I've now eaten here several times as EVERYTHING has been super delicious, tasty, filling. You know once a year, when you bite into something that's so delicious, your mouth waters even more and your eyes open wide as if to take it all in? Amazing place with an air of calmness and benevolence. Kevin, the owner, was very hospitable and forthcoming. Our daughter was having a coffee in the café while waiting for us to go for sushi but, as fate would have it, we felt drawn to this place and decided to stay for lunch. Best decision we made. As an added bonus we got to know Kevin and what a beautiful soul he was(is). We will definitely be back. The coffee/tea were also amazing. New cafe alert in Leslieville! This was the former Sandy Aleksander location that supplied chacuterie and has since revamped to a clean, modern, and beautiful coffee shop between Jones and Leslie on Queen Street. The coffee shop has opened less than a week and I had the opportunity to have a quick impromptu catch up with a girlfriend on a lovely Saturday morning. I stopped in at 10:30am, the interior filled with sunlight through the large floor to ceiling windows. There are a few round table for twos and another long communal table for large group or sharing. The menu is not very big, which is good for me because I can never make up my mind - your go-to coffee, americano, lattes, along with some teas, chai and matcha latte. There is also a nice selection of pastries - croissants, cookies, and breads. I ordered an Americano, which was not overly strong but had good flavours. My friend ordered a latte which had a lovely layer of foam that floated like a marshmellow. I tried a sample of their chocolate chip cookie, which I think had an added touch of salt, heightening the flavours of the cookie. On the far side of the cafe, you can see the cookies being created, which is good, knowing that their items are baked in house. It looks like in the very near future, they will be hosting vegan dinners during the weekdays and has some really interesting dishes that will surface. KaSpace is a cut above the other cafes in Leslieville such as Tango and Bobette -- airy, light, with big windows. Quality food, which obviously comes from Kevin's background in Montreal (where... let's face it folks..the food is on average better than Toronto). Beautiful tables with linen napkins and silverware. And to top it off: reasonable prices ! This spot will surely be super busy as the weather warms up. Expect lineups to drink in the cool vibe of the place and the smooth background music. Kevin says they are also building a lounge downstairs and will have cooking classes on the main floor, as well as planning to have a sidewalk cafe when the weather gets warmer.
