The class size is small, the instructor Becky is actively engaged in making sure that you are doing it right, and understands how to modify the moves if you need an accommodation. I felt i didn't get the detailed instructions like remembering to keep my spine imprinted to the mat. little details that would have helped. I thought it was weird that they didn't have a formal changing area. Its a small room to put your things with a curtain but the curtain opens up to the studio. Its a beautiful studio I am currently a member at LifeTime fitness and they have a studio. If I lived closer to Geneva I would consider taking classes there.

There are several things on my list of "I don't do's"…read more I don't eat cherry-flavored gummy bears I don't wear sandals with socks I don't run unless I'm being chased (and even then, I'd rather hide) and I don't work out Cue Weight Watchers, Groupon, and Center Fit, where *shocker* I found something awesome. As a WW member, it's been a while since I've really needed to start working out, but it's pretty tough. Even the Wii Fit hurts my bod--thank you to years of cheerleading and injuries for my arthritis and loosey goosey ligaments/tendons (yes, that IS the technical term that the orthopedic surgeon provided me with). So I watch Groupon for fitness deals, because I'm a deal hound like that. One day, I see a deal for True Health Studio. "Hmmm" I say to myself...let's see, shall we? Zumba? Fun! Kettlebells? COOL! Sledge hammers and giant tires? HELL YES! But wait...I can't do any of that...It will hurt. *sad face* Restoring movement? Now we're talking. Two weeks in and I'm hooked. Steve runs the class as a group personal training, where routines are personalized for each individual in a small group setting. His knowledge of the body and how we move is phenomenal. Rock. On. No pain, no gain? Not in this class. The goal is not to push too far, but to go just far enough to move more the next day. After day one, I was still a little sore, but I wasn't in pain and I was excited to return. I leave each session with a smile on my face knowing that my body is getting stronger and that one day I WILL get to play with sledge hammers and kettlebells.

I've been involved with Allegro Performing Arts center for about a year and a half, attending adult…read moreballet classes as well as a few other dance classes (tap and contemporary). I've also been involved in a few of their productions. The location is easy-to-find with ample parking right in front of the building. The inside is clean, well-maintained, and has 2 studios spaces (one large, one medium-sized) plus a couple lounge areas, one of which is used for music lessons and as a waiting area for clients and parents. The large studio has plenty of room to accommodate many dancers, adequate vertical space for leaps and jumps, very sturdy barres, and a comfortable, marley-covered floor. Though I have experience in music and am rhythmically capable, I was completely new to ballet when I started here. Heather's experience in the ballet world and in teaching the methods become apparent right away. She provides instructions that are very clear and offers cues that help to easily address form issues. Between exercises, she'll share the history of the movements and techniques, the origin of the words and phrasings, and the anatomy/kinesiology and physics behind the movements. This makes the class very interesting to me. She's also able to accommodate everyone in the class regardless of ability level, providing individual instruction equally among the dancers. Heather's great at assigning challenging routines that are just at the top of my abilities so that I'm pushed towards improvement. Ballet is physically demanding no doubt, but a lot of the difficulty for me comes from the mental and memory aspects of learning a routine. It is hard work, and I find it very rewarding. During my time with the studio, I've been given the opportunity to perform in a couple of their productions. It's great to be able to put all that hard work into a final product that my family and friends can enjoy! It's also wonderful to be able to do this alongside her other students and company members as a team. I've witnessed firsthand that this studio forges hard-working young individuals who learn to take criticism as opportunity for improvement, work hard for results, and take pride in their accomplishments.
