We stumbled across EnShape Fitness through the Ro Sport Chiropractic office, which is right next door. There are many reasons why I love EnShape. The classes are small (max 8 people), which allows for semi-private training; they know everyone by name, you're not just another number in their system. They have a variety of training classes from metabolic cardio, strength training, recovery cardio, and circuits. Along with fitness, they also incorporate nutritional training, which is the key to successful weight loss and maintenance. They teach you that this is a life style change, not just another diet. The staff at EnShape is small, so they get to know your strengths and weaknesses and you get to know them on a personal level. You have accountability with weekly weigh-ins and a monthly meeting with your trainer. They care about you, your goals, and your success. Since the middle of August, I am down almost 30 lbs and 2 pant sizes. I can dead lift and bench press more than I ever thought possible. I can push the sled across the gym with weight without any help (the first time I could barely get it 25 ft without any help), and throw the battle ropes with ease. I have more stamina than I used to and feel myself getting stronger. I have definitely seen success in how I feel and how I am looking. A CrossFit gym (or a "box" in the CrossFit world) is kind of underwhelming when you first walk in…read more There isn't much to it. There are some racks, some barbells, stacks of weights, ropes, boxes, and a variety of other stange things. Don't let that fool you. There may not be a whole lot of fancy and expensive equipment that you're used to seeing in other gyms, but this isn't like other gyms, either. Be prepared to train harder than you ever have before. You'll be sweating. You'll be out of breath. You'll be tired. You'll be sore. But, you'll have fun doing it, you'll make friends, and you will soon find yourself looking forward to your next WOD (Workout of the Day) whatever that may be. With CrossFit, each day is different, because each workout is different. You never know what you're getting yourself into, until you show up that day (unless you read the WOD Blog the night before) and with a different workout each time, you won't get bored. The prices are higher here than your typical gym, but there's a good reason for that. You'll have a trainer with you at each session reviewing each excercise before your WOD begins and then individual guidance during your workout. Each of the trainers at Sugar Grove CrossFit are extremely knowledgeable, are willing to help in any way to help you achieve the results you're looking for, and will motivate you when you need it most. I've only been doing CrossFit for a short time now (coming straight off of the couch), but I've already seen dramatic results. I've had success in traditional gyms, but usually something comes up where I lose my motivation and then I stop going altogether. It's different here. Not only because of workouts, but because of the people you'll meet. You will get to know the people here. You will get to know the trainers as well as the people you work out with. They will become your friends and you'll spend time outside of the box with them, whether it's at a charity event like a boxing match or breast cancer awareness WOD, celebrating Black Wednesday, or even attending the upcoming Christmas party. You'll know each other's names and they'll expect to see you in the box - if not, I would imagine/hope that t I'd get a text or a phone call. They say that CrossFit isn't for everyone... but, it should be. Whether you're young and already in shape or middle-aged with a more round shape, this is for you. Your workouts will be tailored to you and your abilities. No matter what, it's going to be hard, but the trainers here won't let you do anything that you shouldn't be doing. So, stop in. Watch a WOD. I truly believe that shifting my workouts from only heavy strength training to adding Pilates and yoga has changed my life and how I feel overall. It's located above Ramseys Kitchen and it's a small studio with mat Pilates rooms, chair Pilates, and reformer Pilates. The class sizes are small (max 8 people), which is fantastic compared to other places I've tried where the class sizes are much larger and there isn't a focus on technique and proper movement. It is a bit pricey for each class, but it's worth it because you'd be supporting a smaller, woman/POC owned business rather than a large chain. Highly recommend trying out a class!
