So I decided to use her catering services for my daughter's sweet 16 and Karla was so accommodating. I forgot to pick up my order recently and I didn't pick it up until a few days later. I Brought two beef empenadas and paid $17.90. The price was outrageous and they were the worst empenadas I have ever had. What little tiny bit of filling had no flavor whatsoever. Second time I've been there and had a terrible customer service experience. Extremely rude older blonde woman with a full face of makeup - acts like you are a terrible inconvenience to her. I always give people the benefit of the doubt, first time I thought maybe I had come on a really bad day for her. But 2x is no coincidence ! I work right down the street from this restaurant. I was so excited to eat here. I ordered empanadas. I asked a simple question about dipping sauce for empanadas and Karla herself bit my head off. She obviously didn't think I could see her but there's an open kitchen. She yelled at the front desk girl saying, "WHAT KIND OF SAUCE DOES HE WANT. IT DOESN'T COME WITH ANY. MOST PEOPLE ORDER THEM AND JUST EAT THEM.I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING FOR HIM." I told Karla that she was very rude and unpleasant and since asking a question seemed to me such an issue, I'll take my business elsewhere. It's not what you say but how you say it. Karla's Kitchen is the only Peruvian place I know of in the area, and thankfully, it's good! Karla's is a food stall at Flourtown Farmer's Market. Last I checked, they're open for lunch Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. They serve up a variety of dishes to go or to eat on the spot. We sampled one of their dishes, perused the offerings on display, then made our choices. A friendly staffer warmed up our dishes in their microwave, and we sat by the window and chatted. I got slices of their pot roast, two shrimp skewers, and helping of their escabeche (prices vary per serving, some by weight; credit cards accepted). The food was as tasty as it was colorful: the escabeche was my favorite - the combination of onions, peppers, and sausage were lovely. We didn't get to meet Karla (she was on travel) but at least we enjoyed her cooking. read more

Karla, Karla, Karla... This woman and this food are God's gift to Montgomery County. I don't have the words to describe this as eloquently as they deserve, but trust that you will not regret it if you stop in for a bite or use Karla's catering for any event. Walking in here feels like walking into your mom's kitchen. Karla catered a lunch at our home for Mother's Day, then again for my mom's service after her passing a few months later and both times I was left speechless by Karla's food and service! Flank steak, caprese sammies, sides, you name it, it's going to hit the spot. Every time we use Karla, everyone is raving about the food and asking where everything is from. She did an absolutely beautiful job setting everything up for my mom's service and truly makes every dish with so much love. Everything is as fresh as you can imagine, seasoned to the point of perfection, and portions are hearty so NO ONE will go home hungry. I've housed her chips and guac in one sitting on multiple occasions as well. Honestly I could probably write a book about Karla & her restaurant & her kitchen but I will leave it at this.... Karla is amazing! She has such a passion for what she does and the results are proof! We go weekly now and pick up dinner for the whole family. My mother in law swore she did not like salmon for her entire life and was blown away when we made her try it; now she tells everyone she only eats "Karla's salmon." I first tried Karla's kitchen after reading many positive reviews and am so glad I did. While I haven't used for catering yet, my family started getting dinner meals from here several times per month. Whenever we don't have the energy to cook, but are still feeling like a homemade meal, I head over to Karla's. There are so many interesting and delicious options, including plenty of vegetarian options and items my toddlers will eat (always a win). With Jamie Oliver and the recently replaced food pyramid replacing plate, I have been all over my students about nutrition lately. So when we went on a field trip to the Flourtown Farmers Market on 6/10/11 I felt a lot of pressure to order a healthy lunch that was at least half fruits and vegetables. That is not easy at the Flourtown Farmers Market! My browsing was not going well until I found Karla's Kitchen. I wish I had a picture of what I ordered. It looked beautiful and tasted better! I had the shrimp and mango cerviche, the green beans and coleslaw. Karla charged me $10. I started with the green beans thinking they would be the least delicious item and I would just get them out the way. Wrong! They were drizzled in oil with cranberries and almond slivers! Delicious. The best part of a wonderful meal. The coleslaw was made with apples, almonds and raisins. I was concerned about the raisins but again I was pleasantly surprised. The shrimp and mango cerviche (I think they call it Tropical Cerviche) was fresh and fantastic as well. Afterwards, I told Karla how much I enjoyed the meal and asked to taste the paella. It was good but it actually was not as tasty as all the healthier items I had just eaten. Thank you Karla for proving that a plate full of fruits and vegetables can be satisfying and delicious. I went here last weekend because I was sick of eating out but I wanted eating out kind of food. I was majestically led to Karla's. What a warm welcome! I got a container of shrimp and scallop thai coconut. OMG....Heaven! I was so happy!! It made me realize how amazing Thai food can be. The shrimp was succulent and the scallops were PERFECT! My family has really come to enjoy the delicious food from Karla's Kitchen in the Flourtown Farmer's Market. Karla's food is fresh and flavorful with just right seasonings that accent each dish. Her Peruvian cooking takes center stage without too much salt or fat. I like to eat healthier and enjoy food that looks great and is interestingly prepared. My favorite is her spinach pie, a double thick portion with lattice pastry crust, where you can really taste the spinach with a nice compliment of cheese and egg. The chicken breasts in mushroom sauce are creamy and just delicious, and the black bean soup is rich and hearty with a nice zing to it. It's a nice after-work dinner or a great way to add some taste and variety to weekend meals when we visit Karla's. read more

Fantastically delicious food + great service. What more can you ask? Karla catered a summer dinner for me & I couldn't have been happier with the results. The grilled Peruvian chicken was perfectly seasoned and the accompanying chimichurri sauce made it even tastier. Be sure to try the Quinoa Salad. The food here is delicious! Everything from chicken to beef to sides and desserts. I would drive 20 minutes to the Flourtown Farmers Market just for Karla's Flank Steak with a chimichurri marinade. Although she is no longer at the Market, her store is right down the street. Now I can visit there anytime, instead of only the 3 days the Market was open. I highly recommend stopping by.
