Although not named after anyone in particular, June's Kitchen is a classic urban luncheonette on Wadsworth Avenue in the Cedarbrook neighborhood of Philadelphia. Most of its business is takeout, but there are several booths and stools along the back counter for those who prefer to eat while the meal is right off the grill. The menu offers platters with eggs, meats and fish, pancakes/French toast, omelets and sandwiches for breakfast. My Frenchie was three nicely grilled slices, sufficiently caramelized with side of turkey sausage links, served on oval platter, with syrup in a table rocket. The dish was tasty and filled me up. Coffee came from a Bunn automatic drip, which probably could stand an upgrade in quality for less harshness. Service was superior (shout out to Felicia), with friendly check ins to be sure I had what I needed, and repeated coffee refills without waiting to be asked. I've been to this area a few times before and found that this part of town in far north Philly is a pleasant breakfast destination, with adequate parking and short strolls to front doors. They all have a similar casual ambiance reflecting the community they serve. They are all well above average and worth a visit and return.

The Love is better. The space is beautiful, the service is consistently warm, and Stephen Starr's fingerprints are all over it. I love the painted white brick, the floral artwork along the walls, the street-level energy, and the outdoor seating. I also remember taking the elevator upstairs once. I can't remember whether we actually stayed and ate up there or asked to move back downstairs, but the space was charming and extremely private. It would be a great setting for a group dinner or event. Personally, I prefer downstairs. It's darker, livelier, and I like being at street level. The menu historically leaned more heavily into elevated Southern comfort food, which has never been my favorite style of cooking. That's probably why I've tended to prefer The Love for lunch over dinner, especially when Philadelphia has so many Starr restaurants competing for the same night out. I used to get what I remember as a salmon and farro bowl, although the menu appears to have evolved since then. Whatever the exact iteration was, I loved it. Fish and farro are both right in my wheelhouse. I've also enjoyed the kale salad and other lighter dishes. The thing I remember most vividly, though, is the cornbread. It is outrageously good and reason enough to order something for the table. I also give Starr credit for continuing to broaden the range of food styles in his portfolio. Once you've built restaurants across Italian, French, Mexican, English, steakhouses, seafood, and the rest, there are only so many obvious boxes left to check. The Love feels like its own lane: distinctly American, approachable, comfort-driven, and still polished enough to feel like a Starr restaurant. Looking at the menu now, it seems broader than I remember, with more options that appeal to me, and I'd be psyched to go back. The Love probably isn't the first Starr restaurant I'd choose purely based on cuisine, but that says more about the depth of his Philadelphia portfolio than it does about this restaurant. The room, hospitality, location, and execution are all excellent. I'd happily come here any day. Starr doesn't miss.

The real slightly negative thing I have to say it's pretty much all Philly restaurants do it is they do charge a service fee but they don't say what it is. The eggs were poached but hard boiled in texture and chalky and gross. Everything seemed like it was taken straight from a bag of frozen food to heat up. Greasy, not flavorful, strictly disappointing. The server was nice enough. The specialty coffees sounded good, but were just overly sweetened, crappy coffee. I had the pecan cinnamon roll latte as a treat but was unpleasantly surprised the "cinnamon roll" garnish seemed like one of those packaged, sticky, ultra-processed school lunch type of treats. If 0 was an option, I would have picked it. I guess 1 star is okay because the server was nice.

We arrived at 12:30pm and as expected, the wait was about 40 minutes with 5 parties ahead of us. They will seat you in order of your party size. When the hostess finally sat me and my friend at a table, it was wayyyy too close for comfort to another couple that was sitting next to us. I asked to sit by the bar area instead and they happily obliged. I knew what I wanted because I had plenty of time to survey the menu while we were waiting...scallion cheddar bacon waffle that comes with two sunny side up eggs on top. My decision was also based on a few Yelp pics for this dish. My friend ordered an omelette. Oh boy, the wait for our food took forever. At this point it was close to 1:30pm and I was hungry. What was annoying was seeing 4-5 other patrons that were seated after us get their food first. When our dishes finally came I was not happy, my waffles looked burnt, and there was only one egg instead of two. Honestly, at this point I just ate it. I didn't want to complain and wait. Drink menu is limited and the tea I had was alright. Still glad I got to check this place off my list. The entire staff is super welcoming and friendly but I will not be returning here for the food. Very cute and quaint space with limited indoor and outdoor seating.

I must caveat that Mediterranean is not my favorite cuisine, so take this review with that in mind. The Fruit and Feta was not great. The seasonal fruit was strawberry and fig. Unfortunately, the fruit wasn't as sweet as I'd hope. The Roasted Cauliflower was a standout! It was seasoned extremely well and the vegetables were tender and cooked well. The trio of spreads were fine, but the bread was very good. The server was attentive, pleasant and apologetic that an item I wanted was not available for the evening. A manager also came to check on our experience, so that was nice as well. They also fill your classes with water before you sit which was a very nice touch on a hot day. Serving sizes are deceptively large - the omelets/fritata were absolutely stuffed. They have a mocktail of the day (mine was a hibiscus spritz) if you just wanna spice it up. Only downside was that the ac was broken the day but there wasn't much the restaurant could do about that (obviously) so it's not affecting my rating. I typically go for a savory breakfast, but the stuffed brioche French toast was speaking to me. I can never turn down banana! The rest of our table ordered avocado toast (x2) and fried eggs with bacon. Everyone was really happy with their choices and an added bonus was that our food came out quickly. Luckily, we found street parking right next to the restaurant, which was a nice surprise. When we arrived, the wait for a table of three was about 45 minutes. That's somewhat expected for a popular brunch spot on a weekend. Once seated, the service was prompt. Our waiter stopped by quickly with waters and took good care of us throughout the meal. I ordered the House Angus Burger with sweet potato fries. It was solid, flavorful, and definitely filling. My friend got the Bella Vista Omelet with home fries, and we both agreed that while the food was good, it felt like standard brunch fare rather than anything particularly memorable. Based on the long wait and the hype surrounding Sabrina's, I think we were expecting the food to really stand out. In my opinion, the dishes we tried were comparable to what you'd find at a quality chain brunch spot like First Watch. That's not necessarily a bad thing, the food was satisfying, but it didn't quite justify the lengthy wait. That said, the menu has plenty of more unique and creative options that we didn't try. I'd be open to coming back and ordering one of those specialty dishes next time. Overall, I left satisfied with the meal and service.

Upon arrival, I learned that the Patchwork Restaurant & Bar is where the happy hour specials, dinner options, and in the morning, breakfast takes place. I enjoyed the food and service during my visit for breakfast before heading back to the airport the next day. The Patchwork Philly has a restaurant, a bar, and a market. The restaurant includes breakfast, brunch, dinner, bar-cocktail, happy hour, and dessert. The happy hour menu is only valid at the bar. Reservations can be made on OpenTable. Breakfast is served until 10:30 AM. They serve omelettes (Denver, Egg White, and Patchwork omelets), sweets (yoghurt parfait, ricotta pancakes, and steelcut oatmeal), savory dishes (Italian-inspired breakfast plate, eggs benedio, croissant sandwich), drinks, sides, and the breakfast buffet with chef's daily selections including coffee and tea. The buffet was great! It included fruits (dried and fresh), breads, meats, eggs, and so much more. And even better, for those with Hyatt Globalist status, you get a free breakfast at Patchwork Philly! You can learn more about Patchwork Philly at https://patchworkphilly.com including menus, reservations, events & private dining, information about the chef, a photo gallery, and social media links. They are open for breakfast on weekdays from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Brunch is on the weekends from 7 AM to 12 Noon. Dinner is Sunday through Thursday from 5 PM to 9 PM and Friday and Saturday from 5 PM to 10 PM. The bar is open on Sunday through Thursday from 4 PM to 9 PM and Friday and Saturday from 4 PM to 11 PM. Happy hour is weekdays from 4 PM to 6 PM and includes discounted dishes from parmesan fries, arancini, shrimp cocktail, and a burger and beer vibe combo. Bar snacks include olives, spiced nuts, popcorn duo, and onion dip. I'd assume there are happy hour drink specials, too. The quick service and tasty food made Patchwork Philly a great food option at the Hyatt Centric, and if I stay there again, I'll jump at eating again at Patchwork Philly!

I also ordered a decaf since I can't have caffeine, and needed to take allergy medication because I realized halfway through that it had caffeine. Oats were cooked (which was great), but was missing the promised toppings from the menu. An iced latte + oats = $33. I also chatted with the manager after this and she said raisins are seasonal (not true lol) so they could remove toppings without telling us, and that it is standard to not receive assistance about what items fit dietary restrictions and to just look at a menu (not true).
