I really thought this place was going to be outstanding since I hear a lot about it. First off their cafe con leche is a no go. I order the large and it looks like a small. Anyhow my complain with it, it felt watery, not milky like other places. Barely any expresso in it as well. I also ordered a pastelito, which I must say was good. It had a lot of filling in it. My last item was a pan con tortilla. It wasn't bad by any means but I want impressed. It was just ok. It was huge so you might want to share it. I have been to Miami many times but I came here to Karla Bakery once and there Cuban pastries are pretty darn good even though they have good ones at Versailles also a Cuban restaurant the ones here beat the other "competitors" by a bit as far as freshness and taste, they have not just pastries but also cakes and other type of Cuban desserts and Cuban coffee of course. I can tell this place has many locals that come here often and is a very popular place. read more

So I've been here a total of 4 times and 3 out of the 4 times have been disappointing. Now, it's not so much the food, because the food is not terrible but definitely not the best in town, so it's edible. It's more the service you get here.. here's an example.. as I was ordering mid sentence the lady yelled at the other lady about another order... when she was done, she looked at me and nodded and I asked did you get what I asked for and she said yes... ok I thought. Unfortunately my experiencie here wasn't pleasant. How sad! I askec for the advertised breakfast number two, cuban style omelette with tostada, cuban coffe and milk, and frech fries. The cuban omelette was the thinnest whatever tgey call that that I have ever seen. Two, maximum three scrambled eggs flattened out with a slice of american cheeze on top. Really? And you charge $7.00 for that? Also, the toasted piece of cuban bread, tostada, was left on the toaster for too long and was very dry. Not good neither. I "think" this may have to do, as in so many other places with not having enough employees to do the job and the stress brings the attitude of: Wharever! Would it be? Also the chicken empanadas were re-fried and so dry that I could easily break them into peaces just by pressing them between my fingers. Please guys: You charged me for this. The worst pan con bistec ever! They provide half a loaf of Cuban bread with the skinniest steak possible and 2 paper thin slices of tomatoes. If you ask for more tomatoes they want to charge you extra. Are they kidding me?!!! I ask for a refund and they said they could do that the next day!!! Wth is wrong with some of these establishments that think they can provide poor quality and refunds on their convince. So why three stars. Definitely not because of their pastelitos they are awesome, but I have gone four different times and I experience the same exact treatment from the women that take your order. The first time I went there were 4 women behind the counter and they would avoid eye contact at all cost and after I loudly said good morning to all of them they kind of looked up and acknowledged me. The second time I was actually standing in line and they bypassed me and went to the male customer. When the other customer pointed out that I was next she reluctantly asked me what I wanted. Apparently they only like to attend male customers. I learned this when I heard the other lady behind the counter ask the male customer why he wasn't being attended and made some sexual innuendo to the man. It's appalling and embarrassing. This bakeries location is odd and is predominantly surrounded by auto servicing and body shops. You must be asking why I keep coming back, well the pastelitos of course. Karla bakery should be any Miamian's go to option for Cuban bakery items of any kind. This includes but is not limited to: Pastelitos, pasteles, empanadas, croquettas, Cuban desserts, and breads. Karla's has the absolute best pastel de queso that I've ever had in my life. I've been coming here for those since the 90s and the quality hasn't changed at all. The croquettas are the best I've had and I love the tres leches and dulce de leche. They also have other tantalizing, yet unidentifiable cakes that you just have to try in order to experience. The negative aspect of Karla's is the quality of their cafe. It's not terrible, but let's just say that you can pretty much find better cafe cubano nearly anywhere in Miami. This cafe would still be the best cafe in NYC, though. The bakery, though, is above reproach. It should be the benchmark for Cuban bakeries everywhere. read more

I was not only dying for an empanada, but to get out of the car too. I was surprised at their selection - Colombian, Argentinian, and as well as your traditional Cuban empanadas. I played it safe and ordered 3 - chicken, pork, and a ham & cheese one...let me tell you, ALL 3 were delicious! I've been coming to Karla Bakery for over 10 years now. I really like it. When I was preggo I used to come in all the time and order a ham and cheese sandwich and a chocolate shake. Everything is yummy. The only thing I didn't like before was the number system they had to take your order. It was a huge headache especially considering the bakery is very small. I hadn't been here in a while, since I live so far. Today my hubby and I were in the area so I decided to go in for a cafe con leche and some pastelitos. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. They remodeled the Bakery and have 2 registers with lines. It was a breeze to go in and out. Service has always been great. Will definitely continue to visit. Yum.... The pastelitos make life worth living, especially if you go on Saturday mornings. Warm, fresh, and the cream cheese in the pastelitos de queso contains the correct amount of sugar. Stay away -- unless you want to wait 25 minutes for your order. Karla Bakery used to be a great spot to get my fix for Cuban pastries. Recently (I'm writing this review in October 2014), however, they implemented a TERRIBLE new system. Instead of the standard "take a number from the red-number-dispense; order; the employee gathers your items; you pay" system that every single bakery in the world uses, Karla now has a new system: a) You place your order with a cashier (no 'numbers' -- just stand in line and wait for the cashier to take your order); b) You pay and the cashier gives you an order-number; c) The cashier places your receipt on the counter behind her; d) At some point, when the employees standing around talking/chatting decide to actually work, an employee will pick up the receipt, gather the items you ordered, and call out your number. This took about 25 minutes (yes, hard to believe but true) for me this morning, even though all I ordered was a couple of pastelitos and a couple of croquetas (i.e., not a complicated order, nor one involving sandwiches-to-be-made, etc). It's an incredibly long wait for a bakery. What ever happened to ordering items directly from an employee, she packages the items, and you pay? Nope, I guess Karla Bakery wants customers to PAY UP FRONT so that, in case the wait is long after you've grabbed a number, you have no option (!) but to stay and wait, SINCE YOU ALREADY PAID. Please go back to the old system. No one wants to wait almost half an hour to get a croqueta. Also, the employees need to actually work here. I counted at least 3 employees who were walking around behind the counter, pretending to look busy, but doing nothing -- or chatting with their co-workers -- instead of tending to the customers. read more

The bakery has lost so much quality, from the pastelitos to the cakes. I used to buy bon bon cake there because it was really good. Now they changed it, they reduced the quantity of the cake but increased the price. Now instead of getting a decent round cake for 10 or more people you get a small ball with a small circular base.
