What a fantastic place to stop by and get solid breakfast. Small cafe, small business owner. We ordered the Greek omelette and chicken/spinach omelette which were fantastic. The more traditional breakfast offered fat pieces of bacons, perfectly cooked eggs and choice of French toast or custom pancakes. The pancakes are huge so beware. Big enough to share. We were looking for a local breakfast place while staying in Rancho Mirage. This totally fit the bill. First, Karen herself is lovely. Warm, friendly, attentive. Second, the breakfast foods are spot on. The pancakes are huge and fluffy. My son had the chocolate chip. One is more than enough, unless you plan to share. My other son had the French toast with strawberries and whipped cream and devoured them. I had the Belgian waffle which I also devoured. I also had an iced coffee which was very good. It was brewed to be iced coffee (not hot coffee poured over ice and diluted). If you are in the area, definitely hit up Karen's. read more

Delicious food and wonderful service by the two ladies that worked there. Very attentive and friendly even when it got busy. The prices are great for the generous portions. I love the mom and pop feel and will be definitely be returning when back in town. I had the eggs over a full order of biscuits and gravy. The do not skip out on the gravy. Karen's was the best breakfast spot of our trip. We went twice. The food is great with a good portion size. The service is even better. Nora makes you feel welcomed and I just love her story. The cafe is a small and quaint place. The second visit I had the blueberry pancake which was delicious. Good size for one! If you are in Palm Desert you must go by Karen's Cafe. All the ladies that work here are super nice and service oriented. This is the place where you are referred to as 'honey bunny" or "lovey" when your order is taken.
