This place needs some work but they have the location going for them. Karas is right across the street from the Americana and can benefit from the foot traffic but they need to work on getting people in and providing a great experience so they actually return. I came here with a big group (10 people). The food was just okay, I had a pepperoni pizza that was fine, you can't really mess that up. The stone oven was a nice touch, it came out hot and was big. People in my party agreed that it was probably the best thing we got. My biggest issue with the place is their customer service. They definitely need more training and possibly a better manager. For example, most places have a manager stop by to see how the meal was, ask how they could improve, etc. This is especially true for new places. The restaurant isn't crowded so there should be no reason why a manager didn't stop by. Also, my sister asked an employee (the one handing out the menus) what they recommended. The employee literally froze and said I don't know, ask your waitress. Basic training could provide an answer to that question that all employees could use. But the most egregious customer service error occurred when one of the servers spilled a drink on my cousin. Accidents happen, the issue was how it was handled. He ordered a bottle of sparkling water which the server poured a part of in the cup. The cup was spilled in my cousin's lap when plates were being placed on the table. They said sorry and cleaned up the mess but when we asked for a new bottle of the sparkling water, the woman literally said why, there is some in there (referring to the amount she didn't spill). That is not how you treat customers, especially if you just spilled an icy drink in their lap. A place with good customer service would have already gotten him a new bottle, not charged for the bottle, and some would have not even charged for his meal. Like I said, they need work. read more

Took the family here on a Saturday night. First time in. A wonderful experience. Grilled meats were superb, all dishes had that special homemade touch, the menu was focused and all of our dishes were just super. Family friendly, casual, comfortable. Our server, Baglan K.D. was particularly awesome - friendly, professional, positive, excellent energy and communicative during the evening rush. Just super. We will absolutely return to this restaurant. Great experience!! read more

They're getting four stars based on my previous few visits not the very last visit. On Sunday evening it was definitely not the experience I was hoping for. The waiter had a special kind of attitude and was not accommodating in any way. I had spas, it's a yogurt soup, with one lahmajun, that's what most call an Armenian pizza. You get a free beer when checking in on Yelp so I showed him the coupon and he starts explaining to me that I have to "log in, answer questions, etc" then he will honor the coupon. Firstly, not my first time on yelp, and secondly I am showing you the coupon; it is already activated to use. So he brings my beer and before I have a chance to say anything he pours it into the glass with 2 inches of foam. I personally like drinking out of the bottle and if you insist on pouring my beer then avoid making so much foam. I wanted to wrap my tiny bit of lahmajun in foil or some small container but that was impossible with this waiter. He actually said they have no foil in the entire restaurant, even in the kitchen. See my pic of the tiny left over in the huge room go box. The entire experience was just sub par. They got a star knocked off for the last experience and the horribly depressing live music they were playing that night. Talk about a snooze fest. I understand it's traditional cultural music but I know there are some non-suicidal tunes they can play. I had to use my headphones to listen to my music on my phone so I can try and enjoy my food a little. The food is good. The lahmajun is actually really delicious. The Spas is also very good. I have had their borsh and a basic salad there that are also good. I do recommend the food but not the service. I don't know if I'll be going back since for me it's the entire experience that counts, not just the food. read more

This place probably serves the best grilled meats/bbq in Glendale! My family and I enjoyed a casual dinner over the weekend; we ordered the pork ribs, chicken, and pizza. All exceptional! I want to mention the food was exceptional. I have tried truffle parmesan fries for the first time. They were really delicious! Also, I have tried small pork pieces made on coal, and should admit pork has never tasted so good. Good job! read more

Perfect food, service and ambience. 1st time, not last the last. Upon arriving, we were immediately spotted and seated. Then, our friendly waitress immediately came over to take our order. Food was out within less than 20 minutes. Generous portions of good Armenian food. We ordered: a BBQ Beef rib plate & 2 chicken breast plates (which came with rice (subbed 1 plate's for some refreshing cucumber salad), sides of sauteed onions, vinegar onions, bell peppers and other delicious savories) And to drink, we ordered "Compote": a Large glass bottle full of Sweet Natural Fruit Juice-you choice of either Peach or Strawberry. So Yummy! We ordered Peach, this time. Next, will be Strawberry. Delicious heaps. We took some to-go. But, all the while dining-in, we were serenaded by some music being played by great instrumentalists at the restuarant. Definite must-try for all visiting the Americana, Galleria or area. read more

I had doubts about this place being it is a chain restaurant in Armenia and trying to establish itself in the heart of Glendale adjacent to the Americana. I've eaten here a few times since they've opened expecting to have a lesser experience, but it continues to deliver. Their pizzas and kapichuri are probably the tastiest things they make. Their pizzas are crisp and cooked in their pizza oven and the size is reasonable given the location and price. Their meats and other grill items are pretty good, but I definitely come here for the pizza. read more

I used to come here all the way from beverly hills regularly for the lamajun and am so disappointed. Its was not good at all. Karas - Arugula salad and 3 Dip Plate - Armenian Near Me - Glendale, California

Update : October 30th 2019: I am impressed how this place has improved in every aspect. I enjoyed the amazing live music on a Sunday night . They have live music on Friday Saturday and Sunday from 6 pm to 11 pm. I really hope there's enough appreciation for that to be able to maintain the live music. Also the service was amazing last time I was there. Our server , Baglan was friendly, attentive and offered to test a few beers since my friend wasn't sure which one he would like . He checked on us a few times and answered our questions nicely . Food came as instructed and was amazing as usual . We ordered borsh, beef kabab with double salad and roasted potatoes, all of which tasted so fresh like Armenian home made food in Armenia . Only one thing I'm not very happy about is that I feel the prices are slowly going up every time I visit . I wouldn't want this place to get extremely pricy hence to lose clients . Watch out on that and maintain your quality. Also please add Lamb iki-bir I used to love that but they don't have it anymore . read more

Always a fan of Armenian cuisine so when I saw that Karas had opened a US location I had to check it out! Location is pretty ideal (right across the Americana in Glendale) so there is no lack of foot traffic, but it's still not as busy as some of the Americana restaurants which is nice if you don't want to wait forever. During my most recent visit I had the Jarko (please forgive the spelling as I'm sure it is incorrect). It's basically like an evening breakfast skillet type situation... with pork and potatoes and veggies (peppers and onions). Everything was nicely seasoned and cooked really well. The potatoes were that perfect texture of not soggy but not too crisp! They also have a great summer salad that I really enjoy!! I have to say, sitting here with my Kilikia beer and my Jarko (again, pardon the spelling) I really felt my Armenian-ness was at an all time high! Stay Cheerful ;) read more

I went to eat here Sunday night with a huuuge group of people and Karas couldn't have been more accommodating. Baglan took care of us and even threw in a couple bottles of the fruit compote juice - it was a little too sweet for my taste but watered down, it was delicious! He was very patient with us and served the group very well. Larissa was also wonderful and attentive. Everyone in our party had so many requests (more napkins, soda refills, extra ketchup... you name it!) but Larissa was speedy. The kids in our group didn't even have time to be annoyed/impatient. Food was great - we got the family combo and boy was it filling. I'm only knocking a star because our table ordered 3 plates of fries for the kids and they all came out soggy and limpy. They were nicely seasoned but man soggy fries were so bad they knocked a whole star off. But everything else was super stellar! I would totally recommend it here for the food and great waitstaff. read more

First time trying this restaurant - I often pass it on my way to the gym, and man I'm glad I tried this spot out. The Americana was insanely packed, as it is The weekend right before Christmas so my friend and I decided to walk in and try it. Now, I have a few Armenian friends who tell me that I'd stick out like a sore thumb since I have face tattoos and a gnarly beard, which usually implies I would be looked at, and not greeted by some - which has been the case in the past.. but not this time. We were quickly greeted and sat. Our waiter's name was Ed and he was the nicest dude (give him a raise, or go see him and give him all your money). My friend and I were starving so we ordered a few plates. Seeing that this was a chain, I was curious about the quality of the food, besides the taste - since usually chains are hit or miss. But Karas was definitely a hit. The Chipotle Shrimp Fettuccini was really tasty. The quality of the shrimp was perfect and you could tell it was fresh. The pasta was cooked and seasoned very well; personally I could've had it spicier but I'm crazy like that - to every day consumers, the spice was just right! The Jarkoie was really damn good - honestly, the way the potatoes were cooked and seasoned tasted like my Armenian friend's mother's recipe.. and I can eat that lady's food all day. The pork was very tender and savory, and the peppers gave it a little sweet edge to its salty taste. This was by far my favorite dish and I'm coming back for more! The Adjarian Khachapuri was an interesting dish, as it had a banana-like-shape of crust, with cheese on top and two eggs as a garnish. Now, the egg was a little bland, which I am absolutely okay with - after having the salt from the other dishes, I was totally fine with it.. and also, you can always add a little, (my friend and I added some pepper and it tasted like a true Italian pizza after that). Another reason why we didn't mind the taste of the egg was because the cheese under the egg quickly came into play... I mean, can you really go wrong with cheese bread? The crust was cooked a little more than the photos in the menu which I was completely fine with - if there's not a liiiiiiitle crunch in the crust, are you even eating pizza right? All in all, great experience, great service - the food and drink was ran by multiple servers so great team work, and generous portions (we had to take half of everything home) at a great price. ' Would totally come back here for more! ' would totally recommend this place to people! I'll post a few photos below! read more

I decided to give this place a try after seeing great photos of the food. Before I even get into the food I want to talk about why I gave it 1 star. The service! Now I am not one to give places one star, you have to do a lot or rather in this case not a lot for me to be upset at an establishment. I got there when there was only two other people in the entire restaurant and yet I saw my waitress twice. Once when I first walked in and once to get my order. After that it was the most difficult thing to try and get somebody to wait on me. Mind you I counted one other waitress and three other staff members who were bringing food to the other tables. It was pretty much like I did not exist in this very empty restaurant. As I was there it started becoming the dinner hour so it started getting more crowded which was worse for me because at that point I was completely ignored even Though multiple people that worked there kept passing me. SO I decided to just wait and see how long it would take for someone to come and check on me. 15 minutes passed and I finally had to flag someone down across the room to ask for my check. I then waited again to see how long it would take for them to take my card and charge me, that was another 20 minutes. No exaggeration. there was a man in a button down shirt who kept eyeing me for no reason. it looked like he was the owner of this establishment and we made eye contact multiple times as I was trying to flag down someone to assist me and he did nothing to help. I've actually never experienced this kind of a horrible service. I've had waiters who were terrible but at least they still came to check on me to make sure I was OK. I was basically abandoned. I don't know why because even as it got busier the staff and waitresses were doing a great job at serving everyone else including the table of six right next to me, they started as a table of 2 and as the rest of their party came the waitress immediately served them. I'm not sure how hard it would have been to ask how I am doing as the waitress would finish with the table of six but it must've been very hard because she would just pass right by me after helping them. Now she wasn't my original waitress but I'm sure she would've or should've noticed that the other girl has just forgotten about me. Now for the food: It was pretty tasteless, not very flavorful, The meet was kind of rough, which is why I asked for a side of rice after getting my main entrée because it needed some thing. The rice was better than the entire meal. I would suggest not coming here if you're looking for a great flavorful food. I wish I could tell you why I had such terrible service and everybody else was being waited but I can't so all I can say is try it for yourself if you wish and hopefully you get better service. If the manager or owner of this establishment reads their reviews I would like a response on how I was treated. Does this happen often? Was I just a random exception? read more

The food is good and will continue to dine there. Chill, clean, and nice environment. We had pizza, truffle fries, beef lula, and pomegranate wine, all delicious. The service is excellent from Baglan. I appreciate his positive attitude, warm energy, and being considerate for our dining needs, thinking ahead. One Ex, My friend decided to order a pear lemonade via Baglan's rec. The drink sounded delicious and unique on it own, worth trying, and if we dont like it, whatever now we know. But Baglan is sweet enough to put the possibility of it in consideration and brought out a complimentary regular lemonade just in case we dont like it. We both really appreciate subtle yet thoughtful gestures like this. His warm customer service elevated our dining experience, we both left happy and felt the money was well spent. read more
