We decided to give this place a try last weekend. The interior is really nice and it's a good vibe for family dinners. The waitress was very nice and helpful. She recommended a party platter or whatever it was called which was I guess just a combination of different foods. The food came out at a normal pace. Everything tasted really good but some of the appetizers could have used more salt (just my opinion, might be good for others)The bbq was delicious and juicy. The prices were actually really good for the way the restaurant looks and the portion sized. I brought some out of town friends who are Armenian to Epique for what we hoped would be a special night out, and our entire party was disappointed. The server seemed very uncomfortable and was not friendly at all. I don't think he understood English well enough and that may have been part of the problem. We ordered regular tap water and instead we got an expensive bottled water. When we tried to order a bottle of wine he explained that they were out of many of the wines on the list. He wasn't able to explain the characteristics of the wines they did have. One person decided to order a mixed drink instead and it took 2 tries and 20 minutes to bring the right drink, and then the martini glass was less than half full. The server said it's because they don't have a "bar man". The eggplant appetizer we ordered didn't come with the ingredients that were listed on the menu. The entrees were the worst part of the meal. The short rib was so fatty with hardly any meat. The meat that was there was very dry. The Chicken Tabaka had the strangest texture. The server agreed to take the short rib off the bill when we showed him the quality. On the plus side, the restaurant is beautiful inside, and they had a nice band playing. But I cannot recommend it based on the service and food quality issues. read more

Unfortunately my experience at Epique left much to be desired and I wouldn't recommend coming here. I read reviews beforehand and thought maybe other people just had bad experiences, but having gone myself I now understand that the issue is a lack of attention to detail in multiple areas of the business. While the interior is absolutely stunning, it is very cramped with seating and the live music is pushed up right against dinner tables, so it's claustrophobic, even when you're at the front. The waitstaff is overworked, with too many tables assigned to each waiter, and not many speak English well. The menu doesn't have thorough descriptions of what each dish actually includes, leading me to believe this restaurant caters to Armenians more than Americans. I also got this impression from looking around the room and hearing people speak almost exclusively Armenian. Items such as bread/lavash and water aren't included, but they don't communicate this and assume you want it for an extra charge. Even when we asked for regular tap water, they would only bring us a bottle of branded still water. Having been to another Armenian restaurant in the area that did the same thing, I assume it's a cultural expectation to serve bottled water despite LA having perfectly safe, drinkable tap water. While I could look past the cultural differences and even appreciate the "close-as-family" environment, the real kicker for me was the poorly executed dishes and the long wait time to receive everything, from drinks to food to the check. We were there for over 2 hours because our waiter was too busy helping other tables and another waiter took over at one point to try to help, but also was too busy. We first ordered the Halloumi with Honey, which was extremely over baked, with the honey having completely hardened into candy and the cheese tough and dry. For the main meal, we had the Udoli Tolma, which was under seasoned and small portioned, though the texture of the lamb was nice. We also got the Ghavurma Areni, which was deliciously seasoned, but the lamb was super tough and the vegetables were mush with no texture at all, despite the menu labeling them grilled vegetables. These dishes should never have left the kitchen in these conditions. While this place might be a hit with local Armenians, I don't think this is a restaurant for everyone to enjoy if they don't make changes in the space to accommodate every type of customer. An easy place to start is to include more information on the menu and offer tap water as an option. I believe it's a state requirement anyways, so might as well do it anyways before it becomes a bigger problem. read more

Order the pomegranate short rib-- it's the standout dish! The lamb shank was flavorful, though the Armenian-style wheat pasta (arishta) underneath was a bit too chewy for my taste. Not bad, just not my favorite. The food and décor are both beautiful, but the atmosphere was a bit much. We came with a party of seven and were seated right next to a live singer in what felt like a mini banquet setup for another large event. It was so loud we had to shout to talk. If the music had been more mellow, this easily could've been a 5-star experience. Service was fine, though not as polished as I'd expect for the price point. The meze was a great starter to share, and the $7 bread basket came in handy since you don't get many chips. The "tabbouleh" was tasty but definitely not traditional -- more like a tomato stuffed with bulgur. Creative, but misleading. One thing to note: even water isn't free here -- $7 for sparkling or flat bottle. To their credit, the sparkling water was actually delicious and super refreshing. Overall, this restaurant serves high-quality food in a stunning space, but it's not the best fit if you're looking for a relaxed dinner. I'd come back only if I could confirm there's no big event and that we'd be seated away from the music -- I'm not trying to eat while strangers dance next to me. Awesome... nice experience. We fall down in this place going to a play in Glendale. When you cross the line to a very ethnic place (Armenian) you never know what to expect. But we are very happy we did it. The food was amazing specially because it was late in the evening we arrive there like at 10:30 pm. They only told us to hurry with our order because the kitchen closes at 11:00 and we did. We had their pear & sugar beet, then a couple of dolmas one with cheese and the second with a delicious pulled beef and last a chicken breast in a kind of mustard sauce. They also have a nice menu of wines, we had a Merlot with heavy body, nice!! The venue is elegant with clothes in the tables and being Saturday night they had live music with a beautiful singer that we surely enjoyed. Just had an intimate family dinner here tonight to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. We were a party of 8 + a highchair. None of us have been here before. The food was delicious. We got a few different appetizers to share. Then we each got our own entree. I got the beef stroganoff; AMAZING, delicious, and comforting. My husband for the pomegranate short rib (I think that's what it was called), and I tried a bite. It was mouthwatering! Sooo good!! I don't even know where to start. We came here on a date night with another couple. I read the reviews before making a reservation as I always do. This place had mixed reviews but it looked good. Our reservation was at 7pm the waiter took our order at 7:15pm we didn't get our food until 8:12pm. The short rib and lamb shank came out about the same time so we had to start eating without the fellas because their food was super late and when it came instead of beef stroganoff it was some beef on a bed of french fries. Not to mention it was salty. The waitress didn't know WTF they were doing because they brought us food that we didn't order and when we asked what it was THEY DIDN'T KNOW at the end of the slow ass service I asked if they would compensate us on anything due to bad food and bad service they did not. The servers seemed very unknowledgeable about EVERYTHING even the bottled water. Beautiful ambiance. Fair prices. Mushrooms tasted a bit too boiled for me but flavors were great. Short rib was very tender and delicious, I would've preferred a little of the sauce it cooked in to go along with the mashed potatoes so it's not too dry. The steak salad and Leche cucumber coctail was delicious. We ended it with sweet baklava and coffee and both were perfect. This is absolutely a stunning Southern California French restaurant with luxuriously romantic vibes and layers of personality. As the pianist dances his fingers on the keys, and the guests are swaying from fantastic wine and great company, my filet mignon was cooked to perfection, and the malbec finishes sweet and smooth. The desserts are a must try, my favorite being pistachio. Ask for Mariam. She is a wonderful person to conversate with as she leads this team to execute everything to perfection. When the birthday cake came out, she asked the pianist to play happy birthday softly with his keys. I will definitely come back to visit her whenever I am in LA. read more

I took my boyfriend here to celebrate a new job and had requested in the reservation for a dessert to be brought out at the end of the meal as a surprise. Sadly, it never came and by the end of the meal, I decided to just get us dessert elsewhere. I also saw that on Yelp, I'd get a free appetizer with the order of an entree. When I told our server, they informed us that this appetizer was the bread and 3 types of butter and not an actual appetizer of our choosing from the menu. Sort of misleading but important to know if you see the "free appetizer" offer on your Yelp. Our server was super friendly about it, though, and was very attentive throughout the dinner. The ambience is very dim, romantic, and there was live piano music which was so fun and unique. It made the experience even more special, although it can get loud. We still got an appetizer (seared octopus), 2 mocktails, the lamb chops, and the healthy salad with shrimp added. The bread and butter was fantastic! The bread is fresh, warm and uniquely flavored. It pairs incredibly well with all 3 butters (truffle was our favorite but the other two were also good but more subtle). I would've taken it to go but they removed the plate pretty quickly without asking. I'd highly recommend trying the octopus appetizer - it's by far the best octopus I've had. Perfectly seared and not chewy at all - it's almost buttery. The cream it comes with is the perfect balance to the seared octopus and the tomatoes, onion, and radish add texture to complement. Both mocktails were also perfect - not too sweet but super flavorful and very fun to look at and drink. And the main courses were also 10/10. Lamb chops perfectly cooked and the purée was so refreshing with it. My salad was light, delicious, and came with a good portion of the juiciest seasoned shrimp. We ended with some coffee and overall it was a great dining experience. 4 stars only because of the dessert mishap and misleading appetizer offer. But food/drinks were perfect. read more

We came on a Friday night; I noticed that the tables were quite empty at the beginning of the night ~7ish. Once the band started 8pm(?) people started filling up the restaurant. The music was really hit and miss; some songs were beautiful and perfect while others were SO LOUD that we gave up screaming our convo to each other and just resorted to focusing on eating our food. The service was also (because of the music) really difficult to hear. They were severely understaffed and it was so difficult to get our waiter's attention when he spent so much time attending to other tables who were also waiting for a very long time. I think it will be a great solid choice if music wasn't playing so loud or if you are here to catch up with friends, choose a time that doesn't have music that will disrupt conversation. read more

To start off this is a wine only place and there are only about 3 wines you can get by the glass and the rest are bottles only. This wouldn't be an issue if you're with a larger group since you would be getting that much wine anyway but for two people it might not be the best choice so that was limiting. If they added some cocktails to their list or at least made more wines available by the glass that would really amp things up a bit. I would give the food a 3.5 just because the salmon was cold, the steak tartare was not melt in your mouth it seems the meat selection might not have been the best and the tuna was alright nothing too special about it. The desert which was a lava cake was missing the lava . Overall it was alright but wouldn't go here for just the food. Maybe more appetizers would be a way to go. The ambiance was amazing! The reason that I will definitely go back again is the classy atmosphere and the amazing live music. It was so nice to have the addition of that. This place is a gem! I loved the vibe and the details of the decor here. I could have spent an entire day just hanging out. They don't open until six and we had reservations and were promptly seated in the direction of the setting sun. Since blinded by the light, I asked if we could move down just a bit and they obliged. The menu looked phenomenal and we started with the beet carpaccio salad along with the Burrata. They brought out complimentary bread with a trio of butters. I got mine medium rare it was cooked perfectly. For sides we got asparagus, ratatouille and gratin dauphinois. As much as I would like to love this place everything was going wrong direction. We arrived very early on Friday night with reservation made ahead but we got very small table at the entrance of the restaurant where everybody was entering/exiting and it didn't felt romantic. We started with cocktails and they brought a butter trio that was frozen and almost impossible to take out from the plate. My cocktail was good but my husbands Apero Epique was terrible! Peach and mint felt like a petroleum... also why almost every cocktails has Korean soju alcohol if place is "french"? Decoration and serving plates were very beautiful the place definitely has a style but food needs more improvement! Our beef tar tar was extremely overpriced and it didn't felt like $34. I am big fan of tartar but this was bland. I ordered a duck and I like it! Was very nicely cooked paired with cranberry sauce. Fish (branzino) was extremely dry and we didn't like it. It felt like it was so much dehydrated and almost no sauce to fix that. Dessert and tea was also average. Beautiful tableware but hazelnut dessert almost impossible to eat it doesn't break with the fork easily and caramel stucks on your teeth. Presentation of the food and restaurant overall is beautiful but lack of flavors or wrong combination destroyed the whole experience. Overall we paid over $200 and it didn't felt like we had exquisite french food. Concept of this restaurant is more American French. I have been to many classic and contemporary french restaurants but it's not even close to that, just because they added few items on the menu like a duck canard doesn't make it french... with korean soju and other drinks has nothing to do with that. Had one of the best dinner nights that went perfectly. As soon as we walked in without any reservations, the hostess welcomed us. Most tables were already reserved, but she sat us down at a table. The waiter came over and was really helpful with the menu. It was our first time, so we didn't know what to expect. I ordered the tuna tar tar for starters. A plate of fresh bread with 3 types of butter was included with the plate. The 14oz ribeye for entrée and side of the lasagna potato. They gave us time to enjoy each course before bringing out the next course. To finish with, we shared the most decaden dessert full of amazing flavors with coffee. I'm really conflicted about this place, but I have come to my consensus - this place is great for an evening listening to live music, drinking good wine, and nibbling from a charcuterie board. If I ever come back, that's exactly what I am going to do because we came on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks and that left us frustrated. On one end, it was a great vibe, good service, and amazing music (they have a live performer who sings to perfection), BUT on the other end, we had terrible to mediocre food for an outrageous price. If you come for dinner, you should expect to spend around $200 per person. For a new restaurant in Glendale, that is not upscale, this is kind of a high price point so expectations are going to be high. I was extremely disappointed that I actually had to stop eating the food, it was that bad for me. That being said, I still gave 3 stars because the vibe was great, they did a beautiful job with the decor, the singer was great, and wine was enjoyable. Definitely stay away from: - escargot, no flavor at all, if you bring your own garlic and butter then you can order this - octopus, the worst I have ever had!! yelp doesn't have half stars coz I would have rated this place 4-1/2 stars we ordered the escargot & the scallops to start... both were excellent for our entrée... we ordered the chilean sea bass & the duck... both were good but waaay too small to fill us up... the sea bass came with a few string beans & the duck came with only 2 pieces on top of cranberry sauce(refer to pics we took).... even with the mashed potatoes that we ordered as a side... we were still not full... for this reason... I give the food 4 stars after our entrée, we were still hungry so we ordered the coffee french tart & the exotique for dessert... and to top off the night...
