Pastry Selection
Albert T.

I will preface this review by stating that all buns I purchased were air fried before consumption, therefore I don't know what the quality is like when eaten directly from the displays. When we visited near the end of the day right before closing, many items had sold out and the remaining selection wasn't the best. We ended up trying out four of the pastries: Melon Pan ($4.50) - Smells amazing coming straight out of the air fryer. The heat crisps up the top cookie crust layer to perfection. It's sweet, it's buttery, it's crumbly. All on top of a nice bun, fluffy yet chewy. (5/5) Potato Croquette Bun ($3.50) - The croquette crisps up decently in the oven. Inside is a very smooth potato mash. Sweet and tangy, thick tonkastu-like sauce drizzled on top. Tastes a little oily. Some carrot mixed in. (4/5) Takoyaki Bun ($3.50) - Pretty similar to the croquette bun, but with two soft takoyaki embedded in the bun. There's an octopus tentacle inside each takoyaki, giving texture and flavor. (4/5) Red Bean Bun ($4) - Not much to say about this. Same outer bread shell with a large hole in the center about half filled with a not-too-sweet red bean paste. (4/5) I would return to try some more of the pastries.

Corn Mayo Bun Miso Havarti Cheese Bun Pizza Cheese Apple Cinnamon Roll Pros Super soft bread Not my cup of tea in flavour as it was all very very mild in flavour, esp. the apple cinnamon roll has none of the quality of the warmth of cinnamon, sugar and apple. I'll stick with their bread loaves.

3.5 stars Generous sizes Japanese bakery. 3 stars for curry pan donut. It's chewy which I like. However, it is on a dry side. The beef curry filling is flavorful. 4 star for strawberry short cake. Moist and light. 3 stars for montblanc. Not much taste of chestnut. 2 stars for mocha. Too sweet.

Rooster and Chick custard buns

This had such high reviews so we made sure to detour and stop in right at 10am. Unfortunately, most items like the buns and mochi didn't quite hit the mark for us. We did like the yuzu lemon bar! Ambiance: One person came in to work on laptop, some cute seating area, no public bathroom seen. Not many people at opening on weekend. Service: Pretty sweet and efficient. Food notes: - Potato croquette bun $3.50: Croquettes are a bit soggy after being put into the bread, bread is soft but lots of it. Not a particularly strong flavor, definitely a strong carb one with bread, panko, potato and this is filling 2/5 - rooster and chick custard buns $6 Cute but needs more custard. A bit tasteless, bun tastes like those found at dim sum places. decoration is incredible. 2/5 - hojicha pan: so excited to see this flavor, love hojicha! Unfortunately it was a bit dry, top didn't taste strongly of hojicha. To be fair, ate it a day late. 2/5 - earl grey mochi $1.75 Tasted more like a crumbly cake, a bit on the dry end. Not as strongly earl grey flavored, group couldn't even tell it was earl grey flavored. Not bad 3/5 - veggie curry bun: One person thought it was pretty good would have wanted more curry filling and they liked the crunchiness, not too salty. This is a very sweet not spicy version of curry, not a big fan of how crusty the dough on outside, it's like a crumbled cornflake type texture. 3/5 - yuzu lemon bar 4/5 My favorite here! Loved the yuzu flavor. The crust is a bit much and without a stronger depth of flavor, it's a thin bar but it's like 1:1 yuzu with crust.

First time visiting this Japanese bakery. Noticed this curry bun which was warmed up and given to me after I ordered. The bun was crispy and very tasty. Went well with my cappuccino coffee. I liked the bun and I would like to try their veggie option next time.

I came here many times and bought their pastries, bread, hot food and beverages. Everything tasted delicious. No complaints. They provide a wide varieties of options on bread, pastries, and sandwiches. Customers must be able to find something that they like. The bakery started to sell products in farmers market and then expanded to do business in store having a shop or bakery and then did renovation and/or added more decor inside. Now the bakery has become more well equipped and it is more like a Japanese homey type of bakery/restaurant look and feel. Customer service is always good. As you know, Japanese people are always very polite and friendly. The staff or servers are always patient to all customers. There is free street parking, so no parking concerns here. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Customers should pay attention to the business hours.

I finally visited this bakery after seeing them at so many markets. The cafe has an even bigger selection of baked goods than they bring to the markets (including hot curry pan), a coffee/tea bar, and on Saturday, sandwiches. Non-dairy milk (oat or soy) is offered for drinks, but vegan options are limited to bread rolls/loaves and the croquette bun. There's also a little retail area with tea and some crafts. The shop is nothing fancy but it's cute and unpretentious, and clean. As you might expect from a Japanese establishment, the staff is super polite. I got a veggie curry pan ($6), a slice of mont blanc tart ($8.25, it was a big slice), and a black sesame latte ($5.5). Again, I really enjoyed everything. The curry pan is almost like a curry-filled donut with its airy texture. The panko coating gave the outside a nice crunch. I found there was a good amount of the filling but not too much, so it wasn't spilling out. It tasted so fresh. I don't think I've tried something like this before and it was very memorable! The mont blanc tart was also delicious, just the right amount of rich and not too sweet. The black sesame latte used coarser-ground black sesame than other black sesame lattes I've tried. I got it unsweetened so I got to enjoy the straightforward nutty black sesame flavour. The bakery is a little out of the way for me but even so maybe I'll go back since it was a fun place to visit. If not, I'll definitely keep an eye out for them at more markets!

Kanadell = aesthetics. It's a lovely little Japanese bakery with tasteful decor and super, duper cute pastries but it unfortunately ends there for me. Ordered a selection of sweet and savoury items and 5/6 of them were underwhelming. 1. Japanese curry pan: 5/5 (deep fried goodness, the best of the bunch) 2. Matcha roll: 3.5/5 (okay, 2nd best of the bunch) 3. Melon pan: 3/5 (just ok but doesn't hold a candle to melon pan in Japan) 4. Tear apart bun: 2/5 (looks cute but custard filling tasted bland) 5. Maple cream loaf: 0/5 (wasn't "soft and fluffy", did not taste hints of "maple" and certainly not worth $11.25 for such a small loaf) 6. Apple cinnamon roll: 0/5 (this wasn't fully baked, the dough was soft in the middle) Might pick up a curry pan if I'm ever in the area again but will pass on the other stuff.

I have been following Kanadell since the days they were doing deliveries during the pandemic, and I was so excited to hear that they were opening up a storefront. They have amazing pans with my personal favourites being matcha and hojicha. Their baked goods are always extremely fresh (made day of), and I would highly recommend!

We wandered into this cozy little bakery on a rainy Sunday because we were staying close by. We got a variety of pastries including the yuzu danish, curry roll, strawberry matcha melonpan, onion cheddar roll, original melon pan, and the orange chocolate swirl bun. Every pastry was light, not too dense, and for the sweet pastries, not too sweet. You could taste the flavor, but it wasn't overwhelming. The savory pastries were also very soft and light, and the green onion cheddar was perfectly cheesy and delicious. The curry roll was interesting, basically a curry.filled donut with panko breading on the outside. I enjoyed it. The curry filling was a little sweet but also savory, and I like the crunchiness of the fried panko breading. Overall, the yuzu danish was my favorite, as it tasted like a lighter version of a lemon danish. I also got a black sesame latte. I did not add any sweetener and the roasted sesame flavor was really nice. I guess they grind up sesame seeds and put them in the syrup maybe because there was a very distinct texture of ground sesame seeds in my drink, especially as I got to the bottom. I didn't mind it, but if you are someone who is picky about textures or don't like pulp in your OJ then this might not be the drink for you. There was only one person working it seemed and she was pleasant and made some recommendations to us. A few people walked in behind us and it seemed like she got a little flustered, but the food is worth the wait so no one was upset.

Fairly new to this neighbourhood (opened in December/20) this local Japanese bakery offers a selection of 'not too sweet' buns, drinks and savoury food as well. Take a look at the pics I posted! There are some adorable food products. It appears that everything is made baked in-store. I bought curry pan vegetable buns, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with a subtle taste of curry. Satisfying and filling! Will be back for more.

Grandma wasn't so much into the milkshake part of the snack. Vegan Crush Fries were just as good as last time. Grandma commented several times on how tasty they were. That's a big win in my books. Always happy to hear of anything that makes my mom happy! I enjoyed the crispiness of the Vegan nuggets but flavor wise I think they were just OK. The dip is very much needed for these nuggets. On their own, they don't really have much flavor. I recommend breaking them into smaller pieces and then dipping those smaller pieces before eating them as they were piping hot and biting into it as is might burn your tongue. Found that out the hard way! I was pretty impressed with how well the nuggets retained their heat! Loved the Vegan milkshake! We ordered the Vanilla flavored Vegan milkshake and it was soooo good. The menu says that it's made from coconut milk ice cream. I couldn't taste any coconut milk flavor. All I tasted was Vanilla and it was sooooo good! Super impressed with the Vegan milkshake at Burger Crush. They absolutely crushed it with their Vegan milkshake!

Solid reviews on Yelp had us on the way. What a great little spot! There used to be so many diners of this style, it's a shame so many are no longer there for us to enjoy a simpler time. It's 100% diner right down to the mini juke boxes in each booth to the red and chrome bar stools. Even found an old Kellogg's individual cereal box display like one we had in my parents diner in Ontario, that was very cool! The service was spot on with our two servers working in unison to get waters, tea, orders, delivering food, cleaning up like a well oiled team. They even have old fashioned milk shakes and an Hamilton Beach machine to blend them up. WOW, nostalgia. The food came out quickly and was cooked exactly as we asked, and it was plentiful and a solid breakfast for the price. My potatoes were a little greasy, to me, but everything else was perfect. The bacon, three slices, of good quality and perfectly crispy as ordered. We will most certainly return to The Templeton when downtown again. Our hotel close by, not so much, but this little gem, unquestionably!
