As long as you realize this is "American fast food chinese" going in, that's the most important thing. It's the best I've had in that category in metro Detroit and I've tried many. I am a huge fan of both their cashew shrimp and cashew chicken. The full order is enough to feed two people. It comes with steamed white rice. I have sampled a few other menu items but always return to the cashew shrimp and cashew chicken. This is a cash only- take out restaurant. The order is ready 5 to 10 minutes after you call in. There is both street parking and a large parking behind the restaurant. The owners are delightful. The husband is a people person and has a good sense of humor and is always smiling. My wife and I have been bemoaning the absence of decent Chinese food in the area so we finally decided to try Kam's based on these reviews. We are still bemoaning the absence of Chinese food. We won't order from here again. It should have served as a red flag that many of these reviews rave over the large quantity of food provided by Kam's. If one rates restaurants by quantity, I suppose quality is secondary, and it is at Kam's. The fried rice was passable (how hard is it to fry rice?), and the Peanut Chicken was edible (although I'm not inclined to ever eat it again) and the Almond Chicken was so bad that we threw it away. I've eaten some great Chinese food, but I'm not a snob about it and will eat whatever's available as long as it reflects at least some effort to be tasty. But this stuff doesn't even come close. It's gross. BIG and gross. If your idea of good Chinese food is the junk you used to be able to get in a Chun King can, then check out Kam's. If you know the difference between Lo Mein and Chow Mein, then avoid this place. read more

I first tried this place in 2003, moved out of state for a few years, and then moved back to MI. Glad to see the everything is the same as before I left. Vegetables and meats taste fresh. I like the szechuan shrimp, sesame chicken and mongolian beef. Szechuan doesn't have any sauce in it, but I like it when I'm in the mood for something savory and drier. When I want something saucier or sweet, I get mongolian beef or chicken. Broccoli & beef was also good. Hot & sour soup has a nice blend of tartness and heat. I tried the spring rolls recently and they were ok, but I like the egg rolls better. Portions are pretty big. Friendly owners, same people since the beginning. And cash only! I forgot a few times, but I just went to the supermarket or pharmacy next door and used debit. read more

I would give negative stars if that were possible. Very poor customer service and I can say the same for their food. My order was not correct. I brought that to their attention and at no time did they offer to remake my meal or offer your refund my money. This was not the first time they have messed up an order of mine. This used to be my favourite place for Chinese food up until the previous two experiences where they noticeably skimped on the portions of food. The undersized portions that they give you are not comparable to the over $10.00+ price that they charge. During our last visit,myself and my family ordered whole orders of Szechuan Spicy Shrimp and Beef, two Egg Rolls, and a whole order of Won Ton soup. The rice first and foremost was clumpy in texture and stale in taste, a tell-tale sign that it was aged. Both the spicy shrimp and beef orders had very little of it's core content, with only six pieces of jumbo shrimp and beef respectively, while the rest was an over-saturation of onions and sauce, with hardly any vegetables. The Won Ton soup was bland and was nowhere near as hearty as the recipe I found on the Mr. Food website. If you seek the best Chinese food in town, either go down to the Motor City Casino buffet or take the time and effort to scour the web for recipes and make it yourself. Myself and my family will NOT be patronizing this establishment anymore!!! read more

On Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, hubby & I got carryout from Kam's Express and were miserably sick with diarrhea!!! We ordered Chicken Lo Mein, General Tsao's Combo Plate, & Almond Chicken. First, when we opened the containers, the Almond Chicken gravy was very lumpy and cold (we only live 1 minute from them), the Chicken Lo Mein had old crunchy rice noodles mixed with soft noodles, and heavily coated with gravy to camoflage the old & new noodles. Funny..., I was turned off when I looked at and started eating the Almond Chicken & the Lo Mein, but I was so hungry & had been craving Chinese for some now. Within 30 minutes, I first had the most severe stomach cramps and ended up in the bathroom (I'll spare you the gory details). I hadn't yet mentioned anything to my husband, and within minutes he was running upstairs with the same stomach issues! I've had food poisoning before, but never to the extent we did that evening! We will NEVER eat Kam's Express food again! Maybe we got carryout on the WRONG night, but it left a lasting impression! BIG MISTAKE! read more

I was so upset getting the wrong order of noodles. We always order Kams special Lomein noodles. I drove 60 miles there and back home do to the fact that I wanted to get those noodles cause its my husband and my favourite noodles. We order the same thing every time they know this. The little lady was not there so I ordered from the man. He was helping another customer when he took my order. When he came out he only had 1 order of noodles. I told him I needed 3 orders. He said ok. I paid and got home to surprise my husband but when he opened it He was so upset it was the wrong noodles. He called them and complained The old man said not his fault it's your wife's fault. My husband handed me the phone and I spoke to the man he was rude but knew who I was. And still said it's not his fault it's my fault. This was very upsetting to go back and forth about who was wrong. He told me that I come back and remind him about this incident and he will replace. I will go back tomorrow and bring back the none eaten noodles and get what I paid for Kams special Lomein. read more

Ordered 3 dishes, 3 soups and 2 orders of spring rolls for the 5 of us. There was enough food for probably 7. Huge portion size on the ABChicken, tender, those that ate that loved it. Chicken Subgum was heavy on the celery, but all the veggies were crisp tender and fresh tasting. General Tso's was the strangest I've had, kinda vinegary...it grew on my though and I really liked it for what it was. The Wonton soup was a favorite and those that ate the egg drop liked that too. Hot and Sour soup was, well, hot and sour. The spring rolls were meh. We have leftovers. Cash only. Very nice owners. I give it a 4 comparing it to other take out chinese places (I have a favorite that it can't come close to, hence the 4) It's probably a 2 1/2 to 3 compared to a good quality sit down restaurant. This is not the best place ever but coming from the south as I did, where the Chinese restaurants are ATROCIOUS, I am quite pleased and usually fulfilled! I get all my sauces on the side when ordering from Kams and it helps out a lot and the Three Gem Lo Mein is super YUMMY! My husband and I are fans! And who cares if its cash only! They get taxed on those machines and if you can't find someplace to pick up 20 bucks you probably shouldn't be going out anyways! Its cheap. its Close. Its food! LOVE KAMS! Everyone who lives locally has eaten at this place for years. My family has been eating here since i was a kid. Staff is always friendly and the portions are always generous.
