Their food truck was at my apartment complex one night and the food was delicious, comparable to other Hawaiian restaurants I have liked. The portions were deceptively generous and the service was friendly and efficient. The value for the quality and serving size was great! I will definitely visit their restaurant! read more

I've been here twice already and love it! The restaurant is well lit with a lot of natural lighting, high ceilings, good food and friendly people. I've only been here during the weekday for dinner so it probably isn't as busy as the weekend and my food came pretty fast. Their portions are HUGE and both times I was able to save some food so I can have it for lunch the next day. As much as I wanted to try something new the second time I went, I ended up sticking to the Korean chicken since it is so good. Their fries are great and also reasonably priced for such a huge portion. Defintely share it with someone! The green tea hi snow is also good and reasonably priced. I've never had this type of dessert before. It's shaved ice but does not taste watered down at all because the green tea taste was definitely there. read more

We came here not knowing that it was an Hawaiian place. It is a small, clean and stylish place. The food is amazing. I had the Kalbi which was very flavorful and tender. The Katsu chicken was moist and crispy. The potstickers were good the sauce was a bit spicy but not overly so. The dessert was amazing, I really liked the snow, I will have to try some other flavor next time. I really like this place. read more

What a treat! In Forest Grove! There are so many good restaurants here now we don't have to drive to PDX. We both had the curry chicken and the pic does not do it justice. Delicious and crunchy wonderfulness with rice and kimchee. The kimchi was spicy but not too spicy. There was a side of mac salad but you have to like a lot of mayo. The Longboard beer was affordable $4 so I had the two required to really enjoy the wonderful food. Staff was awesome and friendly. I will be back for sure. We had the shaved ice dessert with coffee and caramel. So light after a heavy comfort meal and so good. We both took home food and we were hungry. TY! read more

Where do I start first!!! They have done such a great job with this restaurant! Wish it was closer to us, but hey another reason to leave our little town. We had the pleasure of help celebrating the grand opening and it was beyond fantastic. There were so many choices and we got to experience them ALL! Pokē, squid luau, ox tail soup, smoked meat, kalua pig, lau lau, Korean style ribs, fish, Mac salad, fried rice, haupia and mango sorbet with Li hing mui powder. THEY HAD IT ALL! They have a full bar, drinks are nice and strong, plenty of seating and the environment is wonderful! Can't wait to return and hope the live music continues! What a great little peace of home. Thanks Kamaaina for doing the damn thing! Aloha read more

Review for the food truck only: Crew was really great, prices are good, portions are a little on the small side for Hawaiian but for a food cart not complaining. Loco Moco was quite tasty, Mac salad was on-point. Burger patties had great texture, just a tad over seasoned. -1 star because they forgot the side we ordered, cooked the eggs over-hard after asking for over-easy and not having any spam musubi read more

Excellent food and prices. The kalua pork is good, and the Korean chicken (not the Katsu, the other one) was fantastic. Not spicy at all. The macaroni salad was good and the portions of everything were just right, erring on the large side. However, MOST IMPORTANTLY, the haupia chocolate pie is AMAZING. This review would be five stars if the only thing they served was that cake/pie. I will definitely be returning, albeit not soon as the food is very rich and the kind of thing you only want on occasion. read more

We are out in Hillsboro and found this Hawaiian restaurant and it is very good. I neva ask, but The people there all appear to be from Hawaii. the food has very authentic flavor. At least They captured the flavor of the kalbi, mac salad, saimin & Hawaiian plate. You will not be disappointed. Next time we eat there, i'm gonna try oneadda stuffs. read more

Only ate here once, but I really enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Aina Pack, and it hit the spot. Seems a little pricey, but it was a very generous amount (left full and satisfied). Felt as if I was eating back in my home town on Kaua'i. The service was great! The host who brought us to our seats was really nice, and our waiter was outstanding-- incredibly nice, enthusiastic; simply exceptional. I decided 5 stars based on how I consumed my meal. Probably ate it all in under 10 minutes (I know, it was a long day spent at Hagg Lake without food). Our table was also relatively quiet. When everyone is focused on eating, and not socializing, the food must do delicious. Overall, a great experience. Will be coming back to this place! read more

Good food, good ambience. Long story short, went home a happy camper. Good job to the owner and chef. Sincerely, a returning customer! PS. OH MY DAMN THEIR PUMPKIN SPICED SHAVED ICE IS ON A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL. read more

Ordered chicken teriyaki with a side of teriyaki to go. Went to get my ordered and was double checking to see if they put a fork in the bag, the employee spoke to me rudely and said that they've had over 5,000 orders this week and they know what they're doing. So I left and when I got to my car I realized they gave me a side of chicken teriyaki, not just teriyaki sauce. So I went back in and the employee was very rude and said I need to specify if it's the sauce then. My thought was if you don't know if I want the chicken or the sauce, why didn't you ask? I've never had any other restaurant confuse a side a teriyaki with chicken. He then didn't even offer to give me my money back for the additional $4.75 they charged me. read more

Great food and atmosphere. I would definitely come here again. The food was super ono, made me feel like I was home in Hawaii. Kama'aina is def worth the hour drive from Monmouth. I've placed two take out orders in the last month and both times they have messed my order up. The first time they forgot the second side order of Kimchee and the second time they forgot to give me the actual spicy ahi poke bowl. We were introduced to this fine spot by my sister who lives in Forest Grove. Stopped for lunch. I am on the hunt for the perfect Loco Moco and found it today. Perfectly spiced, creamy gravy. Two grilled (not normal pan-fried) thick hamby patties. Just right sticky rice. Eggs ordered over-easy...arrived just that. Wife ordered today's special Steak Rice Bowl....Very tender hunks of beef, more than adequate, fitting her picture of spices and mix of veggies. We tried the Coconut Mint Hi Snow with chocolate syrup for desert...Wow. like kids when we made similar treat with genuine Powder Snow! But, better!! Chatted with the Owner who made us feel special, just like he treated others around. read more

Kama'aina - The most excellent Loco Moco! - Hawaiian Near Me - Forest Grove, Oregon

We're pretty big Hawaiian food fans, so were excited to try out this place. The husband ordered the Korean Chicken - pretty tasty, but much smaller portions and much larger price tag than we're used to at other Hawaiian places. The mac salad tasted overly like mayo, or maybe mustard? Rice was good. I was torn between three items, the Portuguese bean soup, chicken katsu curry, and teri burger. At my server's suggestion I tried the burger. It's pretty standard, not enough teriyaki to get it's name. The furikake fries were an interesting twist though. We started with spam masubi which was pretty good, fair on price in comparison to other joints. Overall with dinner, we'll give them another shot after their grand opening to see if they can work out a better price per serving size. The chicken katsu curry at the table next to us looked pretty amazing. Dessert we ordered the Honeydew Snow and it was really tasty. Here, portion size definitely great - it would easily feed a table of four. The flavors were bright and fresh, textures pleasing, and presentation was nice. While just based on dinner I'd probably lean towards two/five, the dessert bumped it up to a 3. I can definitely see us coming just for dessert, especially in the summer. read more

Went for the soft opening with a limited menu. They give fat pieces with the poke and it tastes fresh. The Korean chicken was bomb. All food we tried was grinds. It is a little bit more expensive but you get your money's worth with quantity and quality. They are open to suggestions and I'm excited to see when it's fully open. read more

I had the yakisoba! Perfectly cooked! The meat was charcoaled perfectly and still really juicy nor burnt and the veggies not over done! I was really impressed! Macaroni salad was good to the dressing tasted homemade instead of the mainstream overly mayonnaised generic stuff that they sell at Albertsons, Safeway and every other main steam restaurant has which I'm sure is the same manufacture. Anyways it reminded me of a homemade barbeque, but the kind you can't make yourself! Cute mom and pop type of place! read more

We went to this great restaurant last Sunday night to try it out for the first time. There was a private party in the dining room, so, we sat at the bar and tried some delicious appetizers. We will return again very soon:) read more

This place was alright. The setting and decor are super cute but the food was just alright. I ordered the Korean chicken. The sauce was sweet and savory and the chicken was super crispy, and also way over cooked. My hubby ordered the Kalbi and teriyaki chicken. The flavors were totally there but the chicken was again, over cooked. The Mac salad was amazing, that's the only thing my son would eat after trying all the meats. The waiter was super nice, attentive and helpful as well. read more

First off, I would like to say that this review is not based on the food I was served at this restaurant. If I was to review simply the food, I would have to give this place 5 stars. I got the kalua pig and teriyaki chicken combo, which came with both meats as well as sides of rice and mac salad (although I opted for all rice). The meat was delicious and cooked perfectly and the rice was pleasantly good as well. Everyone else in my group had been here previously and raved about the food as well. However, the service we received from our waitress was maybe the worst service I have ever received at a restaurant. The establishment is small but it did not appear overly busy. Yet our waitress took several minutes to acknowledge us and take drinks orders and then just as long to come back with the drinks (one of which she forgot) and take our food orders. The food arrives sometime later, which is to be expected of course. Not once does she offer a refill when she returns with food and worse yet, after bringing us our plates, never returns at any point during the meal. She came back WELL after we had finished our meals, asked how everything was, and then left without any word AND without clearing our table. When she came back with a dessert menu, she still did not clear our table nor offer any drink refills. We managed to make it through dessert fine, albeit without any refills, and then got to the fun part - the bill. Now, I acknowledge that we did have a group of six with three individuals who chose to pay separately from the rest of the group. However, none of us were paying for anything we didn't directly order (with the exception of the dessert, which will be important in a second) and the payment was taken on an iPad she had carried with her to the table. First person manages to pay just fine. Second person comes up and her bill is short of the $15 minimum purchase to use a card. However, not to worry, she will pay for one of the two desserts we ordered to put her over the minimum amount. We explained this to the waitress and she had the most befuddled look on her face. Waitress: "You only bought two desserts though and they (my brother, his girlfriend, and I) already said they would buy them." Friend: "Yes, but I'm saying I'll pay for one of them and then they can still buy the other." Waitress: "But you only bought two desserts." Friend: "Again, yes, but I will pay for ONE of the TWO we bought. ONE of the TWO." Waitress: *blank stare* "Oooooooh, now I get it." Payment proceeds for friend. Person number 3 is up; she too falls short of $15 and this buys our second dessert, which the waitress understood just fine this time. Then, for whatever reason, she leaves the iPad for payment in our friend's hands and goes to the kitchen to begin serving other tables. This continued for at least 5 minutes before she returned and cash my brother, his girlfriend, and I out. As I've said already, the food here was great. I have absolutely no complaints about what I ate. However, next time, perhaps the staff could put a little more effort in to making sure that we're being checked in on at the very minimum. read more

This place is sooo delicious!!! Ate here when my son visited PacU campus, then again during Orientation. Recommend the Korean chicken, kahlua pork, and the CA poke. Oh, and the kalbi. We are enjoying this more and more as time goes on. Probably been here about 8 times since the soft opening. Chicken Katsu Curry is my favorite! Perfect curry over the chicken with rice, etc. Tuna Poke is very good also and the Chicken salad. A big plus which gave it 5 stars is Kona Longboard on tap for $4 bucks a pint. NICE!!! We have spent considerable time in Kauai and this is good as anything we have had there. Looking forward to this becoming a mainstay in the Grove!! Cheers! read more
