The store is open spaced with seating to the left for about 20 people. To the back left there are fridges and freezers for products the sell. Center of the restaurant is a prep station with cashiers that take you orders ring up any sales. To the right are washrooms and a decorative wall to take photos for social media. With any new dimsum place i always try out the staples items. Har gow, Sui mai, rice bowl and milk tea. I ordered a ginger chicken rice bowl but there were none available. Fortunately there was black bean pork available. Unfortunately all 3 food items were somewhat bland in taste especially the pork rice bowl. If I had to rate each item out of 10 each item would just get a 4. The milk tea was rich and creamy. 8/10 Unless they improve the recipient i don't think I will be going back any time soon.

This one took awhile to open up, and set in the Hastings-Sunrise area there was excitement as to a place where you could walk in and just have hot, steaming, freshly made dim sum was definitely attractive, without going to a restaurant, waiting for a seat, and doing the full sit in experience. What formerly was a small grocery store is now Kam Wai, that same one that has their original store in Chinatown. I haven't eaten at Kam Wai in a long time and coming in here it was quite the experience. Everything when new is always mesmerizing, from the decor, to really playing up the local Vancouver Chinese heritage. When you walk in there is a communal table and some seating at the window, at the back left is all their frozen made dim sum for you to buy and bring home, right in front of the freezer's is a display of local Chinese kids books, bowls and plates and some other Chinese heritage knickknacks. The middle rear center is why most people are here, to order ready made food, and you can see all the steamed items ready to buy and eat behind their glass displays, you can order a nice selection of steamed buns, you can also order wonton noodles and HK milk tea, the menu is actually pretty vast, from sweets to savory's, there is something that will get you at anytime of the day when you are here. This is strictly my own personal opinion, as food is subjective, I personally found the flavours of everything I ordered not fitting my palate. To put it lightly, it tasted like regular at home, steam yourself up frozen dim sum. There is something to be said about restaurant quality food, and in terms of dim sum, this really showed (and I have had some other frozen dim sum places that either mimicked or were better than most restaurants) as I felt there were more fillers in the food. Nothing tasted great, just something that was there and wasn't special to me. That said, I know many people were waiting for this place, and I remember how the Chinatown one tasted, so I give this place hope, and maybe the pots are still too new, and still need to be cooked in more to get the taste right. That said, this place is a great addition to the area, and one where you want dim sum but you don't have a group of people and you won't feel weird on coming in alone, and it is affordable.

I hosted our leadership team's very first offsite in Vancouver and I was on the hunt for an evening…read moreteam-building activity for our group of 13 that felt inclusive, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone. After a lot of research, The Dirty Apron stood out as the clear winner. I reached out nearly two months in advance only to find they were fully booked on our one available evening. I moved on and kept searching, but about a week later they contacted me to say they had a cancellation. I jumped on it immediately! From start to finish, the process was seamless. They offered a very wide variety of menu options, which made it easy to find choices that accommodated several dietary restrictions and varying preferences across our group. Communication was straightforward and stress-free. Day of, the location was easy to find and they were completely set up and ready when I arrived a few minutes early. The onsite team, Monica, our servers, and our chef were all outstanding. The structure of the experience was perfect for a team event: the chef would teach us one course, we'd break out to make it together, then sit down and eat what we'd just prepared before heading back to learn the next one. The pacing was spot-on. Our chef was engaging, educational, and fun without being over the top. Throughout the evening and through the next day, my entire team raved about the food quality, the hands-on instruction, and the overall atmosphere. After dessert, none of us wanted to leave, even after four full hours together. For a leadership team that had never done an offsite before, this was the ideal bonding experience. Highly, highly recommend The Dirty Apron for corporate team events. We got lucky with that cancellation, and it ended up being the highlight of our trip to Vancouver!

What a great night learning how to prepare and cook in a real hands on atmosphere by a professional…read morechef. We did the Thai class and made shrimp spring rolls, beef satay skewers, and green curry chicken. It was so much fun and it tasted amazing. Our instructor Raf would demonstrate the prep and then the cooking of the dish while we watched him cook and gave tips and teach things like proper cutting technique, to heating the oil correctly and when to add to maximize things like flavour and not to overcook things. Once he finished it was our turn to prepare and cook the dish (while being supervised and given tips and guidance while we cooked)and then when we finished we went and sat in the dining room and got to taste our creation. Each course we did one at a time then ate it and then proceeded to the next course. If you want to learn cooking techniques and some pointers from a real pro and have some fun I highly recommend this. Great for couples, parent& child, friends or on your own to have some fun and prepare a really delicious meal. Class size was 20 people.

This class includes: Smoked Ham and Pea Soup, Salad with greens, endive, and roasted squash, Individual turkey pot pie with root veggies and Spiced cranberry upside down cake. The class size is small, 10 people. This is a demo only class so we could take notes, enjoy some drinks with friends and ask about cooking tips, and eating. Chef Glenys shared a lot of useful tips, also all the right tools to use for different cooking methods, ie the pressure cooker and different types of whisks. I really enjoyed how the chef shares where she gets her local meat and produce so if we liked how it tastes, we can have more options to shop locally. She was very approachable and encourages questions. The food was tasty and I had to pack my leftovers home. I would come back for another class. Free street parking everywhere! #lovecookingclasses

The find: a small and very colourful shop, offering a lovely setup / selection of well-arranged, neat, tidy, and easily-accessible, shelf and table layouts of a wide range of various kitchen / pantry wares and accessories -- from major brands, like 'Scanpan' and 'Le Creuset' -- to many others, and so much more. Wow, I was impressed! I saw just little of the area at back where cooking classes are held, and it looked 'cool'. Service while there was very friendly and cordial. I am glad to have found 'Posh Pantry', and much-enjoyed the look-around.

The three dishes that we made were pork baos, dan dan noodles, and wontons with chilli sauce. These were all staple foods that I grew up eating in a Chinese family but it was quite interesting to make them with a western fusion twist. If you don't know how to cook, do not worry because I certainly don't either. Dan, the owner, led our class with his assistant Kait. Both were very helpful, engaging in conversation, and accommodating. Dan did a really good job of explaining the origins of each dish, bringing in his own experiences and life stories with his family which I really appreciate as this added a personal touch. He stresses the use of organic ingredients and often shared with us where to buy these common items. Once you walk in, you store your personal items in the cupboard provided. Then you write your name on an erasable name tag and put your apron on. Everyone is involved in the cooking process, from washing vegetables to chopping garlic and green onions. There was just a right amount of time to cook but also socialize with one another. You can also consume alcohol while cooking. I found that the assistant often prepared most of the meat, so some of the hardest parts of the recipes were already accounted for. The pork bao, for example, only required us to make the bun part but I do not recall preparing the pork or marinating it. Everything tasted delicious and looked so colourful that the plating easily looked like restaurant quality, even if you just tossed them all together on a dish. We used a lot of garlic though so a lot of us still came to work with garlic breath the next day! Still, I think my favourite dish must have been the dan dan noodles because of the peanut sauce. Feeling very lucky to have tried my first cooking class through work and hope to be back another time to cook another cuisine!
