We were once again traveling through Spokane for a nice weekend to visit my husbands son and kids then later a trip into Idaho to visit my son and daughter in law. After a nice sleep in our hotel, I decided to Google restaurants that serve breakfast on Division Street. Kalico Kitchen came up as one. I read some of the reviews and hubby and I decided we would call his son and have him and his 2 kids meet us there. Mind you.....we made NO MISTAKE doing so. I am not a breakfast eater, but my husband is. He ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. He was very pleased. To my delight, they do make egg white omelets! I was so happy, no joke I don't like yolks!! I ordered the veggie and cheese omelet it came with a variety of selections for sides. I chose the hashbrowns which were very good and asked them to hold the toast. One grandson had pumpkin pie waffles...I watched him take the first bit, and then it seemed I looked again and the waffles were gone! He said they were very good. Derek, our server, checked on us several times, the coffee cup was always filled. Our breakfast was perfect!! Derek also had a great sense of humor. It added a lot to our experience!! We had to wait a short time for a table, but it was well worth the wait! Complete breakfast with drinks and a couple sides for 5 with tax came to 53.32. Oh......don't forget to ask for a sample of the homemade ketchup!! 5 people for breakfast and 10 thumbs up!!!! When we return to Spokane we certainly will be coming back. read more

Pretty much your typical diner style breakfast place. The servers were very friendly and attentive. Food came out quickly and was nice and hot and everything tasted great. read more

Friendly staff. Good service. Good food - nothing was overcooked or undercooked. Generous portion sizes. Solid American fare. Plenty of parking. We enjoyed our breakfast and will come back again! read more

First time in and the very first thing I noticed was how clean everything is. The next two things of more were that my pancakes did not fall apart under the lake of syrup I like to use, also the ketchup was not watery it was very thick. It was 100% natural and no high fructose corn syrup. I don't really care about that but it was nice and thick which is not something that I normally think about. The staff were very nice and we will definitely be back read more

Wow, I really like that they are in a new place. Everything was really good today. Well, everything except the coffee. That might only be my liking, but I just didn't enjoy it. Food was really good. Fast, hot, and amazing service. I don't remember her name, but this lady was amazing. This place was packed and still she found time to check on us regularly. Great experience. Thanks read more

This was so delicious! I had a egg scramble with ham, mushrooms, and avocado and it was the bomb! Wasn't going to get coffee but noticed that they had espresso and that was really good too! Would definitely go back read more

Went here this morning and was very pleased with the whole package. Wonderful staff greeted and served us. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. Nothing fancy about the food; but it was tasty and I left with a great feeling about this place. Thank read more

Staple spot here in the Spot! My name has been written on the wall since high school. I have gone here for brunch with my girls, breakfast with my man, and a quick lunch with my 4 year old. I love the old school vibes, the menu that stays steady, the hollandaise sauce and that you can advertise your business at the tables. The orange juice is legit too. read more

What a wonderful hidden gem, at least for me. Even though it has been there a long time and i drove past it many times, this was the first time I had eaten there. We had a large group on a Sunday morning and we were seated in a reasonable amount of time given the place was packed. The staff was very attentive and efficient. The wait time after ordering seemed a bit long but then again we were a large group and every table was occupied. When our food came it was hot and prepared as ordered. Everyone was pleased with their order and with the value. I had the chicken fried steak and must say it was one of the best I have eaten if not the best. The outside was crispy and the inside was juicy. The flavor was great and not too peppery which some tend to be. The steak was covered with plenty of delicious gravy. The order comes with a large selection of sides. I chose hash browns over pancake, waffles, fruit, etc. Others had french toast, breakfast tacos and biscuit and gravy. All enjoyed there meals. The only possible downsides are the closeness of the tables (although few tables would mean long wait times) and the fact they are only open until 2 p.m. read more

Food that you would get from any other diner. Long wait times. Building is outdated. Food tastes good though.

Great service and food taste good and fresh. The waiter ask our names. I felt she took a more personal care in us being there. Best breakfast omelets choices. Clean read more

A study of the Kalico Kitchen and its predecessor, the Monroe Street Grill, should be mandatory for students in a restaurant management class. The Grill appeared to have a huge amount of money spent on the remodel, but with one cook and one waitress serving that huge space, along with other mistakes like 2 strips of bacon being a full order, it didn't last long. When it became Kalico Kitchen, I couldn't believe my eyes when I found just one empty parking spot and one empty seat in the restaurant. The turnaround was amazing and immediate. Now it's the warm, welcoming and bustling restaurant it should always have been. read more

I LOVE this place and the staff!! Oh yeah, and the food is awesome. Doesn't matter what I get I am always satisfied.

Normally one of our favorite spots - not sure if it was an off day or change in the kitchen but the food wasn't as mind blowing as usual. It was good but not awesome. It seems portion sizes seemed smaller too. Coffee and soda stayed full. Orange juice was just meh today but it's fresh squeezed so crappy oranges give crappy juice. Also seemed weird that there was no cheese burger on the kids meal. Service was on point! It always is, that's one of the things we live about this place read more

Slightly better than average. Customer service was wonderful! Everyone was very friendly toward my three young children. Food portions were okay. The flavor is a bit bland but they do have a good size shelf filled with a large variety of spicy sauces. Nothing home made or super special though (for sauces). Freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious. Kids Menu was great with good selection and healthy portion sizes for my young ones. I was passing through Spokane (from PDX where the food choice and flavor is really spectacular) and this breakfast/brunch spot was far better than any chain restaurant around. Check it out! read more

Kalico Kitchen - Best breakfast in Spokane! Try the California Benedict! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Spokane, Washington

One of my favorite breakfast places in Spokane. They seriously stepped up their game with the new location. It's big, open, incredibly clean and cozy. Coffee and food are still great but it's lost a few of my favorite menu items and the family feel with the move. I don't feel like a regular anymore and no more breakfast tacos or seasoned fries. Still my favorite place but sad about the intimacy and menu items lost. read more

Kalico Kitchen - Dayton Benedict - biscuit topped with chicken fried steak, two poached eggs, and sausage gravy, with a side of hash browns! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Spokane, Washington

Came here for brunch on Sunday with four friends. We had to wait about 20 minutes, which was not too bad considering how busy they were and that it is a fairly small space. Everything is very reasonably priced and portions are right on! They also have the option on all of their benedicts and omelets to get smaller portions (i.e. one english muffin instead of two for the benedicts, and a 2 egg omelet instead of a 3). The food isn't AMAZING or anything; it's typical diner food, but they are doing it well, and their staff is extremely friendly. Lots of Gonzaga students come here on the weekends. I ordered the mushroom and spinach 2 egg omelet with sourdough toast and extra crispy hash browns. YUM! it was exactly what I wanted and I was full but didn't hate myself after I finished the whole thing haha. It is nice though because when you order an omelet you get the choice of having it come with pancakes, a think a waffle, or the hash browns & toast. So you can get your sweet AND savory breakfast all in one. Coffee was decent and was refilled often. I asked for half and half instead of the weird creamer on the table, and they were happy to accommodate. I didn't get any, but they have fresh squeezed orange juice from one of those machines you can watch. Looked really good. Come on down to Kalico to get your diner brunch fix! read more

What a great breakfast! The restaurant was very very clean. Sugar, salt, and pepper containers were spotless as well as the menus. The staff was very attentive, friendly, and courteous. I would definitely recommend to friends and family, or anyone wanting a great place to go. Anxious to try a lunch sometime but will be back again. My new favorite place for diner type food. WOW! From out of town. Fast seating, awesome host, awesome waitress, food back in record time and great quality meal!!!! Wish we lived in Spokane! read more

Host was very friendly. However they need a new cook or a new food runner who quality checks their food. Was served black toast and raw but covered in oil hash browns today. Waitress didn't notice and never came back to check on our meal and was no where to be found. so I watched my partner eat their entire meal (which they loved, egg tacos!) and then they asked if I needed a box. Still charged me for the full meal on the ticket even though I didn't eat one bite and never apologized but did bring me toast that wasn't black. So I took the meal home I guess I spent $40 plus a 20% tip to cook my own food at home. read more

Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Their coffee was really good, friendly service.

This place didn't look like much from the outside, but it was hopping with a constant stream of diners-- both young and old. We ordered the California Benedict (with avocados!), Pumpkin Waffle, and Denver Omelette, and it didn't disappoint. We had our food within 5 minutes of ordering. The service was amazing. If you love Eggs Benedict, you should come try out all of their varieties. read more

Kalico is by far one of our favorite breakfast spots in Spokane. Their food is consistently good and their menu has plenty of options to match how we're feeling. Their service and staff are ALWAYS great, too! read more

This used to be a favorite restaurant for us. Covid is not to blame. The lunch chicken fried steak was the size of a thin hamburger patty, at best. The Philly Cheesesteak was half empty, with onions that weren't easy to chew... one long piece was impossible to chew. The portions in general were so small. Yet, the prices are much higher! Oh... not one time did the server fill waters are out table! read more

I read some of the negative reviews and I think they went to a different place. #1 Price - Excellent, the last time we ate there we had a groupon for $20 worth of food, we had to search the menu and order much more expensive food then we usually would and two large juices to spend $20.03 and we still left with a large to-go box. Compare that to Frank's diner or the Old European where we spend $ 28-30 without even blinking an eye #2 Service - Excellent, the servers are friendly, fast and efficient, special requests never a problem, they keep your drinks full and check back on you. #3 Food - Eclectic American greasy spoon diner breakfast without much of the grease. This isn't hoity toity breakfast food it's bacon, sausage, pancakes, omelet's, etc. #4 Cleanliness - This place is usually very busy but always on the clean side. Bottom Line: Looking for a GREAT value with good all American breakfast food - this is the place in Spokane. read more

Hungover? Want good Coffee? Needing some food to start your day after a Longggg night? KALICO is the Place then. The way the place is set up is IHOP-like, with open tables and lots of seating. They have amazing coffee, and hook you up with plenty of cream/sugar the works so you dont have to keep bugging your waiter for more. Their breakfasts are my two favorite qualities of food: cheap and delicious. I always get egg tacos and you choose if you want bacon/ ham/ or sausage in the them. They are huge and filling and sooo good. My love floats away to philly cheese steak sandwich heaven every time we eat there, he claims they are also simply to die for. And their waffles/french toast far exceed your typical dennys/ihop breakfast. After a late night, you can count on seeing me in the same clothing as the night before at Kalico scarfing my face. Be Warned: Parking sucks, but manageable. read more

This place is probably the best place to get breakfast! The portions are HUUUGE and the price is dirt cheap! My huge omelette was only $6. SIX BUCKS! It came with a heaping pile of hashbrowns and wheat toast. SO GOOD. The omelette (forgot which one) had a lot of flavor. I ate half and brought home the rest. The service was excellent! It was super busy, but our waiter was so patient and funny. The wait can take awhile, but it's fine... you'll be too busy looking at all the Gonzaga graffiti and artwork all over the waiting area anyway! read more

A place where everyone knows everyone...but sadly the food is not that great. They're "GIANT" breakfast burrito, is tiny, when you order two eggs with your breakfast, you will get the smallest eggs you've seen. Your plate is barely filled with food for the price and there's nothing real special about it. Each time I've gone, the servers are terrible at feigning interest in they're customers, but are at least checking in semi-frequently. There are plenty of other places to eat breakfast that are more satisfying. read more

Great little mom and pop place. We were greeted nicely by all the staff. The vibe is totally about Gozaga University. Lots of cool sports history hanging on the walls. Great selection of grub including several style of Bennies, Scrambles and Pancakes. Coffee was a real cup of Joe and the O.J. is squeezed to order. read more

Okay, perfect example that looks aren't everything. There's no way I would have stopped to eat here based on the outward appearance without Yelp telling me to eat here (good reviews.) We ate on a Sunday morning for breakfast, the place was pretty busy but we got in and out in no time. The waitresses were all super friendly and looked like they all constantly looking to keep busy. Great employee management for sure! The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, like a diner. The food was great, seriously.. we all left satisfied and full. The menu had a ton of options and a few original choices, rather than your standard boring breakfast options. Next time I'm in Spokane this WILL be a pit stop for sure. Well done Kalico, well done. read more

Wow, what a great place. The food to dollar value is way off the chart. A lot of options and if you want a little, or copious amounts of foods, you can have it. Super fast, super good and super friendly. Would recommend this place to anyone for a great breakfast or brunch. read more

This is my favorite diner is Spokane. I love the wait staff! Be wary of ketchup... My favorite thing about this place is HOW they serve breakfast: You order your basic breakfast dish: eggs, eggs & bacon, chicken fried steak and eggs. It starts as basic as 2 eggs and then works up in food and price. THEN, you pick your side. We are not talking a simple piece of toast. No sir! You pick from a whole new breakfast selection! Biscuits and gravy, belgian waffle, french toast, normal toast, cottage cheese, etc. My favorite combination is 2 eggs over medium, with biscuits and gravy. It comes with 4 sizable biscuits smothered in sausage gravy!! And it's all like 5 or 6 bucks! The same deal works for the omelets! Get a cheese omellete with a waffle for 4.99! Geez! Then you add on the student discount! I seriously love this place so much. I love all the servers. I really wish I could become a regular so that I could get my name painted on my regular mug! They have a machine that fresh squeezes oranges for your fresh orange juice. This place has a very family oriented feel, and I always feel welcome when I come, like I am dining with friends. read more

My wife and I had a work event over the weekend and wanted to eat breakfast at a real restaurant rather than the hotel/casino. This was conveniently located right off Division and had nice reviews so we stopped in. The parking was very limited and the wait was long (although, for the record, it was a weekend and Bloomsday.) But it is not a large place to eat; we were actually speculating whether it was originally a house converted into a restaurant. I'm not sure but it's pretty small. However, it was well worth the wait! Not only is the place charming, but the food was great! They had a large variety of breakfasts available. They also had a crazy selection of hot sauces to choose from, which I liked. The other thing I should mention is the food was very fairly priced. This is certainly an affordable place to eat. Service was also good and the waitresses were very friendly. We enjoyed our food and I wouldn't hesitate to go again for any meal of the day. It's a nice little place and I recommend it! read more
