Super delayed review, but the food, staff and, ambience checked all the boxes. We were a very large group and had Vanessa and Ronnie(I believe) helping us. They were so accommodating and attentive- unfortunately some of the party got stuck at work and showed up late, but at no point did we feel rushed and instead were met with such patience and understanding. We were checked in on various times, and they also made great recommendations on both drinks and food. The birthday girl had a blast celebrating her 85th and we ended the night dancing on the patio. I'm sorry but walking in and saying you need a reservation when there's 4 booths available it's ridiculous. I'll spend my money somewhere else. I walked in around 2:30pm and I checked to make a reservation and I could make a reservation for 2:45pm. Do you think it was necessary to have those booths empty with paying customers walking in? Gotta say, this was a pretty cool place! Since the weather has been pretty hot, we decided to sit outside. The Margarita Flight has an aesthetic presentation however the drinks were STRONG. Wish I tasted more of the fruity flavors instead of pure alcohol. The Pepino one was probably the best tasting out of the four. I was skeptical about the nachos but the asada was REALLY GOOD! The meat was flavorful and tender. The ceviche tasted really bland, almost nothing. My friend who doesn't like seafood whatsoever had no trouble eating it because it had zero flavor. Would recommend to skip this next time. Not pictured but we last ordered the Mangonada Slushie because I saw another table had them and it looked so tasty! Unfortunately the mango taste was lacking and it was mostly alcohol :( I would definitely come again because the vibes were great. The food and drinks are more on the pricier side though. We came to kalaveras and this very nice gentleman with a suit helped he was great! However Emanuel or I think that's his name; when I asked him for a skull with shots he said they didn't have anything (It was for a friends birthday.) All he said is he had shots with dry ice and that he's a manager and that he couldn't do anything. Then 30 minutes later they came out with a duck singing happy birthday with music and shots. He then comes to ask if we want it. After we had already asked for something similar. Next time just say you want us to leave and I will gladly take my business elsewhere. read more

We stopped in to kick off our weekend after work and had a great time. Everyone we met was so nice and welcoming, it honestly felt like hanging out at a friend's house. Salvador and Theresa were amazing bartenders, checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the empanadas and my boyfriend got the Kala Burrito. I've been wanting to try this place for a while based on the great reviews I've seen, so I took the opportunity to treat a friend to a birthday brunch this past Sunday. I really wanted to love it, but unfortunately, I left feeling underwhelmed. It was supposed to be a beautiful, warm day, so I made a reservation for patio seating. When we arrived, the patio wasn't set up, and we were escorted to the main dining room instead. That was fine at first, as it was cool and comfortable but as the restaurant quickly filled up, it became quite stuffy, which was a bit disappointing. Since the restaurant was busy, I anticipated that service might be a little slow. We were there to celebrate and catch up, so timing wasn't a major concern. However, we didn't receive water until at least 10-15 minutes after being seated, and the chips and salsa arrived sometime later. We each ordered a mimosa flight, but only one arrived at first. The staff apologized and explained that the bar was backed up, so we shared until the second flight came out. Unfortunately, all of the drinks were served at room temperature. Beautifully presented, but not very enjoyable. As for the food, my dish came out several minutes before my friend's so mine was almost room temperature before we both began eating. My one friend said the chilaquiles were good and the other seemed to think the tacos were okay. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito. It had good flavor, but it was very dry, which made it unappetizing. I only finished half despite being hungry. I'm not wasting calories on meh food. On a positive note, the service staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was lively and inviting. The team came by to celebrate my friend with a song, a complimentary dessert, and a $10 celebratory shot (upon request), which was a fun touch. However, despite the great ambiance and kind service, the overall experience didn't quite meet expectations, and I likely wouldn't return. read more

Stopped by for a late night dinner. We ordered a few dishes and these were all great portions and tasty. The staff provide friendly service, the manager made his rounds and greeted the tables. The fruit included were watermelon, strawberries, mango and blueberries. The mango was not ripe yet. It was too firm. Other than that, I enjoyed the fruit. 9/10 My husband got the California burrito. He didn't like it. He said it tasted like French fries. He wouldn't order that again. 4/10 My husband ordered the taquitos and he loved those. The taquitos were very crispy. Good food. Great service. Eclectic atmosphere. My friend and I tried Taco Tuesday, and it did not disappoint! We got there a bit early, so there was no line. There was a good variety of taco choices from pollo to asada to chicharrón. We were seated at a very large and comfy booth. Our waiter Vanessa L. came over to take our order (we ordered 4 tacos each), then we were given a receipt to take to the taco bar. At the taco bar, Juan was helpful in explaining each of the meat options and made our tacos. Afterwards, we went to the salsa/side bar to finish garnishing our plates. When we got back to our table, we got complimentary chips and salsa. Shortly after, Bronny, one of the managers, came to our table to offer us complimentary lemon drop shots as a promotion for an upcoming themed night. The presentation was so fun! On the outside, the restaurant looks like it would be playing loud music, but we were pleasantly surprised that the music volume wasn't too loud at all! I remember a few months earlier my daughter mentioned this restaurant and I have seen them popping up all over the place but I knew she liked it and I figure I'd surprise her with a daddy daughter meal that I knew she wouldnt complain about. I started out with a marguerita, it was tasty but I didnt taste any alcohol in it so I just moved on to a coke. It was time to eat so I ordered one of their burrito, one with papas (french fries) in it and wet. Now here is where I was impressed. It was delicious and was put in a food coma. Kalaveras is a gem! We came for lunch on Margarita Monday. We each got 2 tacos. The fish, barbacoa, and chicharron tacos were really delicious. We sat at the bar, Junior was our amazing and charismatic bartender, Jonny our fun and playful server. First time walking into a Kalaveras and first thing I noticed how hot it was in there. We were sat in the first room closer to Commonwealth st. We did ask if we could sit in the last room by the bar and they were quick to accommodate us. Our server was nice and quick to take our order. Food looked great. We ordered steak nachos but got to try the chicken nachos since they brought out the wrong ones. We did send them back after we realized we got the wrong ones. Steak was delicious and would definitely have again. The red tortilla tacos dorados were a fave. The cubed queso fresco was delicious with the salsa they come with. Usually I have grated cotija on tacos dorados but loved it. Also had the seafood tower, wasn't bad but I've had better ceviche to be honest. Our friends had the Dragon roll a fried CA roll. I didn't get to try it but they liked it. I'm more of a raw sushi girl so maybe next time. Everything was great but the drinks are not strong at all. We had lollipop shots, and I tried the Guavarita, couldn't taste the guava or the pineapple and worse of all the tequila, perhaps I need a stronger spirit lol. Drinks were definitely not strong. At least compared to other places where I've had the Mexican lollipop shots. They also have a room with a DJ and I saw a couple dancing. We were there on Friday night around 10:30pm. We ordered a tama-lindo margarita and a la Kalavera which is just a regular margarita. Both were sooooo good! Best margaritas I've had! For food we had the Barbacoa entree and the Lomo Saltado.
