Saturday, Easter weekend (covid-19) - flat tire! Ughh. BCAA swapped in our spare/flat and we took the flat to Kal Tire. They were very busy but we left it with Justin and crossed our fingers. This garage used to be a 'Firestone' location...what a RIPOFF that place was, and a shitshow, so we were very sceptical. But we were desperate. So later that afternoon we got a call to pick up the tire. It was a nail. They patched it up, replaced the valve, and when we arrived they swapped back the spare. OK, now what's the damage??? Firestone would have probably charged us $100 or more! Justin said "thank you" and handed over the keys. What?! How much do we owe you? "No problem, have a good weekend" he said. Holy crap! So there is an honest, reliable tire/service shop in New Westminster. Thank you! Prices are decent, the guys seem nice but the service is slow so plan on giving them them extra time. Brought my car in to change the breaks in the am and wasn't ready until after 6:30pm. Would have preferred to leave it overnight and pick up the next day rather than be told it's a 2-3 hour job, call and they say it's ready at a certain time, arrive and still need to wait another hour. So far service here has been good for minor things, this is probably the biggest job I've had to do here on the car and hopefully it'll be as good as the other times I e come here. 434 Sixth Street - Kal Tires New Westminster, BC V3L 3B3 Never coming here again. Had a screw puncture my tire, with a slow leak over night. Woke up to find it completely flat. Took off the flat tire and put on the spare by myself, using the jack and tire nut lug wrench that came with the car. Drove over to Kal Tire. They told me my lock nut key was worn out, and they had to break it off the wheel nut, and I had to pay $25 for a new one. I told them if it was in such a bad shape, how the heck did I change the tire myself? I refused to pay for the new key so all they did was plug the tire, and wouldn't/couldn't take the spare off car. They wouldn't mount the tire back because I would not get a new key. They charge me $38.55 just for the plug, as they did nothing else to the car. I drove home with the spare tire still on the car, and using the same tools, I change the tire back to the one that they fixed. I wonder how can a professional tire shop who do hundreds of tires a week, with all their tools and equipment, couldn't change out my tire ( apparently the guy didn't know how to do it... really!!!), but I could? What a waste of money and time. Total Rip-off! read more

$154 for a tire change vs. $60 at Costco for the same job. The original quote was $59 and was changed to $154 at the checkout. The explanation given to me was that the original quote only included tires already on a rim, while I made it very clear that my spare tires were not on a rim. read more

Left work to find a huge nail in my tire and these guys squeezed me in right at closing time to fix my tire even though they were super busy! My tire was shot and the got me set up with a new one and cut me a break on the bill. Good people! I will be sending lots of business their way!!! read more

I'm a big fan of this Kal tire location. I live right by the Boundary Road location but actually come out to this New Westminster location because of the friendly service. I tend to pick up a lot of nails and the service here is always fantastic. There's also free wifi and a pretty nifty coffee area with fresh ground Starbucks coffee if you wait on site! read more

Strike 1: Bought tires that had a tread warranty of 105,000 km. After 23,000 km in 2 years, they had worn 70%. But giving Kal the benefit of the doubt, defective products happen, maybe it was the manufacturer...this alone wouldn't have meant a bad review. Strike 2: Brought car in for a tire rotation, mentioned that the wheels were sounding really loud and wearing quickly. Kal's diagnosis was that our shocks needed replacement and that was causing the excessive tire wear, another $2000. We did our due diligence, had a mechanic friend take a look at our car and he showed us in person that: a) our shocks were not worn at all, b) seized wheel bearing was causing the noise. He replaced our bearings, no more noise. So bad diagnosis by Kal and upsell on a fix that we didn't need. That's enough to lose my business, but I still wouldn't have written a review. Strike 3: After Kal's tire rotation, one of the tires developed a slow leak. Upon closer examination, the leaking tire had been patched (poorly) -- and we were never told about this. That's the last straw...our car ended up worse off after bringing into Kal for service, and not telling us they had punctured and secretly patched a tire is extremely shady and potentially dangerous to everyone in my car. Hubby had gone here and he thought the fellow was nice... When I came to this location, the fellow said that he preferred the new MX5...it more aggressive looking... Seriously! So by belittling my 2007 car, he thought that I would give him business...? Perhaps it was because I was a woman... ? I bought my car with cash, brand new...myself. It has low mileage and is in beautiful condition and I love the lines of my car. These tires were being purchased by me as well... He did not offer to check to see if I even needed tires. I thought I did but that approach would have been much more professional... All he was interested in, was the size of the tires and ordering them... He said my car is light, so driving in the snow will be no problem....!?! The reason front wheel cars are so dependable in the snow, is in part, because the weight of the motor is over the driving wheels. One of my customers had a MX5 as well and he said with snow tires and a couple of bags of rice in his trunk, and he then was good to go...best little snow car ever... Weight required over MX5 rear driving wheels helpful. By the time Kal Tire service man was done talking...I was done with him. Metrotown Mazda got my business today ... They could illustrate, clearly, which tire was best for our region, my car and why. I was in sales for years, so saw the issues of Kal Tires sales approach... Demeaning a potential customer does not work. I hope he will learn something from this review. read more

They try to upsell me on something unnecessary every time I go there. I've been there before and said I'd never go back,.. but this time I had to choose them as a last resort to get my snows put on quickly because I need to make an unexpected trip up the Coquihalla for a funeral. The tech told me I had to buy new tires, he would not install mine because he said the was only 4/32 inches of wear left. That's easily enough to go another full season, when it gets to the wear bars is when it's unsafe. lying cheating stinking buggers! read more

I was a loyal customer until I realized that they were ripping me off. They charge $60 for an oil change/inspection and $110 for the same service where the only difference is that they are using synthetic oil which does not cost upwards of $50 more when you consider that the service/inspection is the same. Sadly, KalTire is not alone in price gouging for sythetic oil changes -- I just thought that they were not a greedy corporate outfit like Canadian Tire. Like the oil cartel, the car service cartel all price fix and rip people off. KalTire is no different. When I find a shop that charges a modestly higher price for sythetic oil changes instead of doubling the price then I will be loyal to them. In the meantime I'm now going to Canadian Tire as KalTire has proved themselves no different than other greedy big service outlets. read more

Spent 6.5 hours waiting here to investigate a slow leak on a tire. Came in before noon, they were busy but assured me they could get to my car that day and I stated I could wait for about 4 hours as I had some studying to do. Everyone was very nice and I enjoyed the free coffee...and waited. My car did not move for 6 hours. After 4 hours I asked if I should go elsewhere and the service person assured me it would be a little longer. They took my car into the garage as the location closed and worked on it for 15 minutes. The service person told me they patched my tire and that the leak was caused by chrome from my wheels flaking and would be $200 + per wheel to fix and that they did not perform this service. As the car is a couple years old with only 30k miles on it I found this diagnosis odd. Regardless, they did not charge me for the "patch" because I waited so long. Mind you, I did not complain or ask for a discount so was really happy. Two days later the same tire was completely flat again. I took it for a second opinion at another tire place and they found and patched a leak in 30 minutes, good as new. This second tire place stated that the tire had no patches on it before they patched it, so Kal Tire either lied or misunderstood what their own tech did (although I have an invoice from them stating they patched the tire). Additionally, my dealership has no idea what they are referring to about chrome from my wheels causing slow leaks- so Kal Tire really made me anxious tendering this theory and showing me the door so they could close. I would say in this case I got what I paid for- nothing. I just wish I had my 6.5 hours back. I won't be using this business again. read more

Found a VERY low tire this a.m. with a visible nail head, just as I was about to leave home. Got air in it and drove to this Kal Tire, not too far from where I live. Really nice guys! I left my car, but after only a 1/2 hr, that tire was repaired and a requested tire rotation done. They have my future tire business! read more

Bad business practice of Kaltire, New Westminster. I won't use their service again. Just can't handle dishonest & predatory business practice. I agree with lots of negative comment about this Kaltire store. Lies & deceit does not help to a business in long run. People will come to know about your business practice eventually. Mike Dixon very poor mechanic manager. Kal Tire company policy may be good. But due to extremely rude behaviour of this individual, Kaltire - you lost me as customer for any of my future. I wish I had taken my car somewhere else to have it fixed as Mike Dixon was rude from get go. Kal Tire use to have a very highly trained staff particularly for customer friendly staff, straightforwardness & their honest demeanor. That was why first my dad then my entire family started going there. We used them for years. Few months back, I brought my car to have a very slow tire leak fixed at this Kal Tire. they fixed it & told me bring back if this problem persists (no charge). Problem they explained to me was associated with something related to rim (rust). Surely enough this problem did not go away at all. For fixing they charged about $43. But I was not worried. Peace of mind I had that as per their promise, if anything goes wrong they can fix it without charge. Alas! when I brought my car this time, guy I dealt with (Mike Dixon). He was so rude. And kept repeating "Once you drive off my lot, you are responsible for any nail etc". That comment was for "you will have to pay again'. This was just an excuse to charge me again. It is not a big amount. But my issue is dealing with dishonesty. I am certain that it is the same problem which did not get fixed properly last time. I came across this Kal Tire on a whim comparing pricing on tires. I found a better price at another store, but was offered a price match plus an additional 5% off the tires themselves. I had several communications with them as the tires I wanted were hard to find. He was able tire track down a set of four tires by finding them at four separate locations. The warranty, tire rotation, the reminder to come back and tighten the wheel nuts, as well as the courteousness after my purchase were great. I dealt with Ethan mostly, but when he wasn't around, others filled in with great professionalism. I'm very happy I can drop by and have any issues taken care of (tire rotations, air, etc.). That was my number one turn off of Costco. It seems to be a cattle call and a nightmare to get any service after your purchase. What I felt here, which rarely seems to happen, is they actually value my business. Thanks a lot guys! read more

Unable to follow direction or raise vehicle properly They started removing the wrong tires that I had just instructed them to change. The mechanic put lift on wrong part of vehicle where it was sitting on suspension parts bracket. I had to tell them the proper place to jack up vehicle. read more

Was in New West and decided to visit them on Saturday Oct 28, to get a nail puncture repaired in my tire. Given that I visited during their closing hour, I was fine with leaving the tire and picking it up on the next business day Monday. I received no call updates on the following business day. When i finally called on Tuesday morning before 8am, my service paperwork could not be located and the person on the phone couldn't give me an update because the the original person who took my order wasnt in yet. I didn't receive a call back, so I decided to visit on Wednesday morning (Nov 1). To my disappointment, they did not repair the puncture claiming it was on the sidewall. It was actually on the shoulder and I understand if they do not want to take liability or compromise safety was repairing a puncture close to the edge, but I would at least expect to be informed the moment they made the decision. My time could have been saved if they had inspected the puncture and said no on saturday itself. Instead, on both Saturday and Wednesday, the front desk person put on his gloves but did not help me take the tire off or put it back on my spare tire mount and I ended up with black greasy hands on both days. To add to my disappointment, I noticed while picking up the unrepaired tire that the valve cap was missing. I asked for it immediately and they pulled one out. I should have inspected the stem better because today, I noticed the valve core was removed and not put back. I will refrain from using the word 'steal' but at the very least this was handled very irresponsibly. Granted that valve cores and caps are inexpensive, I don't have these parts and associated tools lying around. How can I trust this place with bigger service appointments or tire purchases when something small like this on my first visit was handled with recklessness? I will admit the front desk persons sounded very polite and courteous on the surface, but that was of no benefit in the service received. Will have to avoid this place in the future. read more

I recently had snow tires installed at the Kal Tire on 6th St in New West - the tires were already on steel rims and all that was needed was for the tires to be put on the car correctly. The service rep messed up the install: rear tires over-inflated and front tires under-inflated, lug-nuts over-torqued, and 2 of 4 tires installed with the manufacturers specified rotation direction reversed. I contacted the shop when I noticed the errors and they promptly corrected them. They also offered to repair a slow leak from a tire puncture on a different vehicle at no charge. I've withheld 2 stars because the initial work was very sloppy. I've rated at more than 1 star because I'm happy with the resolution. Update Nov 2017 I'm upgrading from 3 to 4 stars. This year the staff has improved over last year. They fit me in on a busy day, installed things correctly and contacted me when my vehicle was ready. One star withheld because they only torqued 2 of the wheels correctly. I had to loosen the over-tightened lug nuts on the other two wheels and torque them correctly. Perhaps it's tough to find good help. NOTE: My only experience here is with tires. I've never had auto service done here. I'm very happy with the snow tires they sold me last year - car went through the 2016-2017 winter snow like a tank. Bottom line: I'll go back for tire work. read more

I came here to order winter tires for my vehicle. It took two days to order and was able to put a deposit down on them. I was satisfied by the price for winter tires considering that I drive 100km a day for work, and drive often thru coquihalla highway. I got great reliable reviews from the staff on which winter tires would be great for my car. The service was quick, it took two hours but that was because of the computers and technical stuff in my car. The wait room was nice and clean, coffee and popcorn as well as TV, there is a mall/ complex across the street which made the wait all worth while! I will be coming back again and recommend everyone I know to get tires here! read more

Needed an emergency repair on a flat tire, showed up without an appointment after a long stressful day at work and was greeted by Karl. Despite a lineup of cars he still fit me in before closing. Service took approximately an hour. They cleaned & dressed all my tires when they were done. Couldn't be happier with the service, definitely earned my future business. read more

I went to Kal Tires because they had the tires I wanted. They don't seem to care about a persons time or lying to your face when it suits their needs. Lame excuses when asked for clarification on work needed. Honestly I am not even sure they did the work properly so I have to go and pay someone else to make sure my wheels are balanced and aligned. Just wanted to say "Thanks" to the gang at New West for getting my winter tires on in the midst of a crazy snowstorm (i.e., when it seems 90% of other lower mainland residents were looking to get their tires on too). My lack of planning thankfully didn't mean I had to wait and the guys worked "tirelessly" (sorry for the pun) to ensure my car was fit into the schedule for the day. Took my Ford F250 there for a simple flat repair - screw in a 10-ply tire. An hour and a half later, I get a phone call from them telling me they can't fix the tire because they don't have a 1 1/16" socket to remove the wheel from the truck. Well, the mechanic does, but he's gone home for the day. EXCUSE ME? A tire shop that can't fix a tire on a 3/4 ton truck? DON'T GO HERE UNLESS YOU CAN BRING THEM SOME TOOLS TO BORROW! read more
