The worst part is as I went up to the counter there were 4 employees behind the counter- 2 on their phones texting or whatever and 2 employees just chatting with each other. Never mind- I live in the Eastern Sierra and can buy my pair at Sage to Summit or East Side in Bishop, CA where I have always found them to go above and beyond on customer service!

The clerk was having a conversation with a customer about possible Grand Canyon hikes which was interesting....for the first 5 minutes. Made eye contact with the clerk but nothing, just kept talking about hikes and never about the shoes being tried on. Got up and looked for someone else to help but no one available after a lap of the store. Went back to the shoe department, the clerk was STILL talking about hikes and ignoring me standing there with the shoe. Put the shoe back on the shelf, we left and spent our money elsewhere. While we don't give off the hardcore "outdoors" vibe this store is definitely not as cool as they think they are. We were also ignored when first walking through the store while hearing another customer being offered help. Good thing there are a dozen other stores selling the same stuff within a square mile of old downtown. Maybe why so much of the merchandise was 40% off?

Matt spent a ton of time with me, asked all the right questions about how I ski (trees, bumps, charging variable snow, & park), and straight-up put me onto the Salomon QST 100s. He nailed it - they're absolutely perfect for the way I ride here. Mount point, base grind, and edges were dialed on the spot. The Armada boot fitting was on point. Appreciated the fact Matt wasn't trying to upsell anything extra for the boots until I rode in them at least once. Have noticed at other shops they'll try to upsell you on the fitting only to realize you didn't need it, but easily the most comfortable boots I've ever owned, and it only took one session. No rush, no hard sell, just Matt and the crew genuinely geeking out on getting everything perfect. This place still feels like the classic local ski shop that actually lives on the mountain. Running comes with a lot of joys as well as risks and having people who know what is at risk and truly care is important for your health. That said, all of the shoes I saw had either high heels with too much cushion or would fall apart easily. There wasn't much for me to choose from and the staff, I felt, were really indifferent. Any of the other stores that carry shoes Id say are a better pick if it's selection or staff with experiential knowledge of their products that you're looking for.
