We traveled from Phoenix for the day to catch cooler weather. Passed by this large sports store because it appeared they were having a large sale. We both found some great 2nd hand items and items that had been in the warehouse for some time. Great selections but the sale is totally deceiving. It knocks down items per date, but you have to look closely. Which was fine, we both liked our items but the gal who checked me out full price anyway.. $78 she gave me, she gave me 10% off but when we later looked at the tags, I should have only been charged $47!!! We already left town by then, but wonder how many others are buying full for "sale" items. Make sure to check your receipt! read more

I went to every outdoor shop in town and could not find a pair of boots I liked. Finally someone recommended this consignment shop specifically for outdoor attire and ski equipment. SO ignore the name and realize it's more than ski rentals. The only reason it is not five stars, the shoes were haphazardly organized and some looked rough for wear. However, desperate times for those in need. I found my boots for the Grand Canyon after some digging. Honestly since these are resale items, it was the largest selection compared to any other store. I was looking for rentals (on yelp in the area), and saw they had consignment as well so we made it a point to stop here. I got my dad a like new pair of Colombia snow pants for only $60! The rentals were cheap and easy. The guys on duty were knowledgeable and super nice. They did their suggestive selling, but didnt try to "sell us" on things we didnt need, which was nice. I appreciated their suggestions on food in the area when we came back to return the gear! Thanks Luke, and the guys (Dec 1) for the help! I will definitely be back when I have family in town for rentals, but I will also be back to shop affordable snow gear. Oh! We needed to grab a few things for the kids while we were up in Flag. We headed to Target first but they didn't have what we needed. One of the Target employees pointed us to SMR which was literally across the street. The employees were super nice and helped us get what we needed for the snow. When we got up to the register they said their connection was down and they weren't accepting any card payments. I normally never carry cash with me but hubs happened to have some on him. We checked out and were on our way. If you need any gear or literally anything needed for snow/cold weather this is the place to go! read more

I've been to SMR twice in the last 3 days. I went to find skis for my kids and a few other things for an upcoming ski trip. At first, it took a bit for someone to offer help, but when we asked, everyone who assisted us was SO helpful! They helped us size skis, even without kids present, they recommended bindings that were WAY more affordable than I thought they were going to be and they did an amazing job waxing and edging our skis and snowboards and again, it was insanely affordable! They all were so great, so much so that we had to ask if they actually owned the store! They were friendly, knowledgeable and in general just so great. I highly recommend paying them a visit for any outdoor sporting equipment you might need. read more

These guys were so incredibly helpful. It was presidents weekend and they were slammed. They still kept lighthearted and friendly. There was 3 groups of families with multiple kids. Just rented ski gear at this shop for a two day trip to Snowbowl. It's very convenient for phx folks-can rent on way up to ski and drop off on way down-without the chaos and parking issues of some other rental options in flag. Good staff and a pretty good selection of used ski/snowboard gear for sale. I wasn't planning to buy anything but found a screaming deal on a new pair of ski boots to replace my 1990's era boots. Returns was quick and they were very cool about the fact that my 15 year old tore the strap on one of his ski poles. We will definitely use these folks again for our next flag ski trip. read more

SMR is an excellent outdoor equipment store! They have both gently used and new HIGH QUALITY bikes, kayaks, clothing, paddleboards, tents, ski and snowboard gear, backpacking equipment, climbing gear and more. And unlike other "used" equipment stores, it doesn't have that junk-y feel. Things are nicely displayed and organized. They also take consignments which I took advantage of and sold a Seda sea kayak there!! Mick, the owner, is a great guy with lots of integrity. He is very community-minded and supports local non-profits. One thing that I LOVE about SMR is their location! They are in the Greentree Plaza, close to NAU, and have fabulous parking! I've already recommended SMR to all of my friends. It's a great place to get gear. Highly recommended! read more

My wife and I rented skis here and loved the shop. We got a late start and came in at noon. The gal was super friendly and got us hooked up with the equipment we needed. They care about the sport and their enthusiasm shows. They are very knowledgeable about the equipment. I loved the shop. It's a multi sport shop. They do snow sports in the winter and mountain bikes during the summer as well as kayaks etc. Stop in next time you need rentals or sports equipment! read more

I just got into snowboarding and was looking for equipment for this season. I went in there and spent maybe an hour plus just browsing all that they had. They have a ton of ski and snow boots, quite a few new boards to choose from as well as some used boards with bindings. I was also able to get a Bib, gloves and basically new snowboard boots for only 100 dollars. But they had even cheaper options. If you're hiker they also have an awesome selection of those large 20L + bags for sooo much cheaper than a place like REI. I actually may go back just to get one just for the sake of having one if I ever need. Not once did anyone try to pressure me to make a sale, they simply asked if I needed help with anything! read more

5 stars all the way! Super friendly and helpful staff that goes the extra mile. After many years away from skiing I decided to head back to the slopes in December for a couple of days and SMR hooked me up with a great ski rental package at a very affordable price. (Their Rossignol Experience 80 rental ski's are super easy to ski) I came back in the New Year with my daughter as she was interested in trying to learn to ski, it was a very busy time of the season and they were out of beginner sized rental ski's so the guys pulled out some brand new bindings and mounted them to a brand new set of HEAD ski's that were appropriately sized for my beginner 13 year old. In less than 30 minutes we were on our way to the mountain, truly exceptional, thanks again SMR you are the best! read more
