Absolutely the best outdoor store in Flagstaff! Right off R66 across from the train tracks. This place is an outdoor persons "happy place." Absolute great and personable service. Great products at a competitive price. New and exciting products/brands that other outdoor stores may not have. Came on by during the "where's Waldo challenge! Fun! Key: I appreciate the military discount. read more

Houston, we have a problem. Race Outfitters, we have a solution! Amazingly helpful and knowledgeable staff. They're particularly helpful with handicap accommodations suggestions. My hubs has a condition that causes shakiness and instability. They were so cordial and acted like that was no big deal and were able to offer solutions for him to be able to do XC with me. Huge selection of everything you could possibly need or want for a day of snow fun. They do complete rentals and of course sales as well. Prices and policies were reasonable. I would definitely use them again. Thank you for helping us to have the perfect trip! read more

Peace Outfitters - Soooooo nice! - Outdoor Gear Near Me - Flagstaff, Arizona

I came to Flagstaff on MDW for one reason, and one reason only - to hike to the top of Humphreys Peak. I'd been keeping an eye on the reviews on All Trails (one of the very few features I actually like on that app, but that's a story for another day) and knew several weeks in advance that snow on the mountain was a distinct possibility. When I made eye contact with Humphreys two days before summiting and literally saw tons of snow from about 60 miles away - along with very recent reviews warning about it - I knew I had to make a pit stop beforehand. It would PROBABLY be an exaggeration to say Peace Surplus saved my life, but without it (and its supplies), I don't think I get to the top of Humphreys Peak, or even close. I stopped by last Sunday, the day before my hike, knowing that I needed to get some type of traction on my hindpaws. I considered getting poles (which I've been mulling for years - we're getting close there), but the spikes for the hiking sneakers seemed paramount. I located them very easily right off to the side of the shoe section. I honestly don't know if $62 for these is insane or not, but they made the difference the following day so I can't sit here and say they aren't worth it. An absolute gamechanger, and something I can use going forward in less dramatic adventures if there's icy/snowy conditions afoot. Beyond my primary purchase, I was very intrigued by the little food/grocery store section off to the side by the entrance. It has a lot of hiking snacks that can usually be procured easily at a gas station (cough cough Clif Bar cough cough), but also the ones that are a bit harder to find without Amazon's help, like the Honey Stinger waffle, which for sure came in handy the following morning. There's a definite emphasis on overnight camping/thru-hiking, so there were quite a few freeze-dried dinners, etc. as well. It was an impressive selection. Everyone here was super friendly and nice. The people at the register immediately looked around for another potential customer to ring up the minute they were done with their prior patron, and several times I could overhear presumably managers spitballing how to allocate their staff based on where the immediate needs were. While I was in there, a few employees were outside handling a holiday sale, I believe, so I imagine it gets a little tougher to gameplan when literally some of your people aren't even in the store. No wasted energy at this place. I don't feel like I did more than skim the surface of what this store offered, but they had what I wanted and needed in the moment, and for sure they get some credit for my successful Humphreys ascent. Give Peace a chance. read more

Maybe the strangest retail experience ever. We stopped in during our vacation in Flagstaff to shop for some hiking shoes. It seemed like half the store was 40% off so we looked around then went to the shoe section. I found some full price Merrell shoes to try. The clerk was having a conversation with a customer about possible Grand Canyon hikes which was interesting....for the first 5 minutes. Made eye contact with the clerk but nothing, just kept talking about hikes and never about the shoes being tried on. Got up and looked for someone else to help but no one available after a lap of the store. Went back to the shoe department, the clerk was STILL talking about hikes and ignoring me standing there with the shoe. Put the shoe back on the shelf, we left and spent our money elsewhere. While we don't give off the hardcore "outdoors" vibe this store is definitely not as cool as they think they are. We were also ignored when first walking through the store while hearing another customer being offered help. Good thing there are a dozen other stores selling the same stuff within a square mile of old downtown. Maybe why so much of the merchandise was 40% off? read more

A gem of an outdoor supplier in Flagstaff, AZ that would compete against the like of REI. Service was impeccable! Guy was cool, friendly and very helpful! Selection of knives was surprising and then even had Opindal but I am Gerber Knife Co. guy.their outdoor cloth was nice and high end. I ended up getting some KUHL pants and jacket. But this place is not a place to look for if you want Value. Mid to high end products only, which I prefer for my outdoors stuff. Definitely worth going to if you like nice outdoor goods shopping. read more

PSA-- Do not rent skis from here!! My family and I rented skis 2/23. They looked fine, but we soon realized that the skis have not been properly waxed; if waxed at all. This made my experience absolutely horrible... I wouldn't recommend renting skis here to my worst enemy. If I could put 0 stars I would. Thanks!! read more

I lowkey didn't want to write this because I don't want them to get too busy but I've tried ski haus and snow mountain river. This right here, the BEST. Hopefully when I come back they keep their quality in snowboard and service. Snowboard itself kept in great condition. They really make sure it fits you. Great value for your money! And customer service is top tier. Super friendly people read more

As with surplus stores there are deals to be found if you can find your size. They had items I wanted but not in my size, and the clerk had no idea when new shipments would come in. This is not clearance prices, more like discount on older models. read more

I'm a huge fan of REI which is also in town and just a mile or so further, but we stopped in to PEACE because it's a local joint and we like to support small businesses and because we read that it was THE disc golf supply store in Flag. That was enough for us. Man did they show up. Not only did they have discs, but they had hundreds! The prices were comparable and we were quite pleased by the selection. The place was packed with people who obvi also know what's up. The private parking lot is right in front and it's on the main drag-- you can't miss it. We'll def be back! read more

Rented once and my bindings broke and ruined the day I went back and they told me I couldn't get a refund, then next time I rented again got the same bindings and it broke again. No refund again. As far as clothing and gear it is alright. I got a few things from them but returned most of it, the helmet fell apart before I got home. Way better options online. Would never rent again SMR IS WAY BETTER read more

We.love stopping here for our snowboarding and ski rentals. The guy who always does our rentals is super knowledgeable and very friendly! He sets us up for success and always moves fast! The place has tons of Activewear and clothing available as well. They have cute shoes and clothing. The do offer some sales and we recently did the buy 1 get 1 for a dollar sale and got some nice sandals! Love the store lots of virbacy Nd affordable rentals. read more

We rented skis here and they looked fine however, they were not waxed at all. The under serviced skis made my trip the most miserable skiing day I've ever had. Definitely don't recommend renting skis from here. Unless you would prefer a horrible trip not worth your time or money!!:) read more

Really nice employees! Was quick and easy to rent snowboard gear and get a board waxed (: Also reasonably priced

I've driven by here on every single trip to Flag and kept telling myself I would stop here. I decided on our annual New Year's vacation that I wanted to go snowshoeing, and decided (based on Yelp reviews) that I should come here for rentals. I'm glad I did. First off, in busy downtown Flag where parking is at a premium, they have a PRIVATE LOT. Easy on, easy off Route 66. The store is huge and has every kind of outdoor activity accessory that you may need (and some you probably don't but that you'll want anyway). They have a huge disc golf section that looks like so much fun and it makes me sad that we don't really have that back home. I came to rent snowshoes, not really having any idea about what kinds there are, what's best to use, where to go, etc. I was helped by a couple different employees who made me feel right at home and gave me all the information needed. I decided to rent snowshoes for two days and that came about to about $12 a day. I also picked up a couple cool stickers and next time I come back I want to get one of their awesome beanies and probably a shirt, and also a guide book to trails in Arizona. When I was checking out, the cashier asked me where I was planning to go, and she suggested either the Snow Bowl or Nordic Center, and I thanked her for the suggestions. (Ended up going to the Nordic Center both days and it was awesome; see my other reviews). Brought the snowshoes back today and had no issues. Every single employee I encountered was super friendly, helpful and made my experience here good enough that I needed to write a Yelp review about it. I will definitely be back here on my next trip to Flagstaff. read more

In my opinion, Peace has the largest selection and best prices of all the outdoor stores in Flagstaff. We stopped in during Thanksgiving weekend, so they were still having a 20% off one full priced item sale. They have a great selection of quality brands, especially when it comes to apparel. I found a great pair of Maui Jim sunglasses for 50% off, which is a steal of a deal! read more

"Dangerous" for outdoorsy people -- caution you'll find a million things you want/need! All joking aside, this store has it all! We went in and the employee was very helpful! We wanted to use the restroom but there wasn't one and were looking for fishing poles and found it odd they didn't have any either. Otherwise, it was a good layout and very friendly staff. They seemed pretty well stocked. read more

We were immediately greeting when we entered the store and helped with our question. Unfortunately they did not have the size snowgloves we were looking for but decided to purchase some stickers. Allison helped us when we checked out, asking if we found what we were looking for. When she learned we had not, she went to the back to see if there were any. Allison came back with a pair of perfect gloves! Thank you for going above and beyond! You made our son's day! read more

"I never knew I needed this, but now that I see it, I need it" said every person who entered Peace Surplus. I am not a camper, hiker or really an outdoorsy person, but Peace Surplus had me wanting everything they offered. The shoes, the clothes, the supplies, emergency kits, nick nacks, etc. No matter the season, Peace Surplus has you covered! read more

Giant wonder world of outdoor accoutrements, every single thing you might need for an outdoor foray, and then SOME. And lots and lots of some. Immediately upon entering we were greeted, not by a person, but by a rack of old camo jackets for less than $10 each. Really? No, REALLY, they had some great bargains in addition to the regular priced goods. If you're in Flag and an outdoor buff, visit this place or revoke your outdoorsy-addict permit. read more

Everyone was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There were some really good deals on gear! Glad to support a local business.

Great service! The staff here was very helpful and knowledgable about camping and hiking gear. Some of the stuff however can be very expensive compared to buying them online or at other stores. For instance, their sleeping bags are sold at retail price, and I found better deals on the same brand for $50 less on Amazon and Ebay. I ended up buying trekking poles for about $20 more than the price found online, but I ended up buying it anyway due to their phenomenal service and also, my desire to support local business. In short, if price is something that you worry about, then I would tread carefully, if not, then you are in great hands here. I would definitely recommend this place for all to get their camping gear. read more

Took my kids sledding and needed some boots to keep my feet dry and warm, same for my wife. Since we were staying downtown I was able to walk around to the local shops. I'll be honest, I wanted to like one of the other fancier shops more but this place hands down won out. The staff in all the shops seemed like good people but this was the only one where they offered to help. They also had the best selection, prices seemed the same across all stores. This store feels like a friend helping you pick your gear. I ended up buying some snow pants for my son and they were so darn helpful in an honest, not salesy way. I dropped about $400 here and felt good about it. read more

Stopped here after reading reviews-looking for a place to pick up some gloves and hats on the way to the Grand Canyon after a huge tempature drop! We picked up some nice gloves and hats! It was a fun shop in Flagstaff! Very nice place we are from PAC NW so usually shop at REI, but we wanted to support a local shop and get a taste of the town! It gave us a good impression of Flagstaff for sure. Hope we can stay longer next time! read more

Wonderful store! Their huge selection and great prices make REI look like child's play. All the staff were super friendly & of course everyone was wearing a mask. Best place you could go for outdoor gear and apparel. read more

We got exactly what we ordered but not a drop more. We rented camping equipment and the products were good, the price was right, but pick up/drop off was a bit weird. The employees were down right rude. My boyfriend tried to ask if they rented other equipment and the girl looked at him like he had 3 heads. "What? Ummm, no". Well, okay then. Bottom line - I'd rent again but I wouldn't look forward to the pit stop in Flagstaff. We would have spent a ton more money here if we felt more welcome. read more

These guys are great, they know the gear and actually get after it themselves. Try on a pair of Scarpa Kailish here

It is great to shop in a locally owned and operated store where the folks behind the counter actually USE the sporting equipment and are excited to help you find the best option for your price range. Also love that they have *parking, which is at a huge premium in downtown Flagstaff. *Ignore the self-absorbed guy who claims to have been a loyal customer, but thinks the next customer should not find a spot to shop at Peace because he prefers to leave his car in their lot to go elsewhere for lunch. That is such a silly and unfair complaint! Wonder if he also posted on the restaurant's Yelp site that he will not return because they didn't give him a free parking spot while he spent money eating there?! -- You shop, you get in your car, you drive away... next customer is then able to pull into your previously filled spot and do the same. This is not rocket science. LOL Anyway, Peace Surplus makes your shopping a ski rental experience awesome. Check it out! read more

Peace Surplus has always been there for me, in sunshine or rain. Most recently in rain. I got a sweet rain layer 25% off while home during an unusually humid season. I like the selection of disc golf discs, funny but warm winter hats, the second floor tent store, the variety of flasks and water bottles, and the sales racks. You may qualify for a small discount if you are a local guide or outdoorsy worker type. I always check this store out as seasons change, for discounted gear. Additional bonus? They have a private parking lot. (They will tow your car if you leave it overnight, bro.) I have had only experienced good customer service, since the year 2000. Peace! read more

I really like this place. I come here every time I'm in Flagstaff, even if I don't need anything (I usually end up getting something anyway) The staff is knowledgeable and there is really great hiking and backpacking gear here. We had walked through just about every outdoor supply store in Flagstaff when we happened to drive by Peace on our way to dinner and stopped in...a last ditch effort, really. The Mr was looking for a very specific hat, and none of the other stores carried it. But leave it to Peace to have just what we needed. Service was abundantly friendly. Sale prices were surprisingly low. Selection was far and away the best in town. Reminded us a lot of Mast General Stores in NC. read more

This place is the best! I'm glad I came upon this rental store in Flagstaff because on my way up north (Almost to Sedona) I realized I forgot my tent, sleeping bags, and blankets for my camping trip in Monument Valley. I didn't want to turn back around to Phoenix because the traffic was horrible on the drive up. I was in a panic and was hopeful there was a rental store somewhere on the way. Thankfully I came across Peace Surplus on Yelp and called them about rental gears. They were able to fulfill my request for a two person tent and two sleeping bags for that same day! Their prices are cheap and you can tell their equipments are taken care of. The sleeping bags are always cleaned after each rental. The only downside for me was that there was so much static with the sleeping bags. Other than that, everything worked out pretty well. It saved me a lot of money from buying a new tent and sleeping bags! Will definitely come by again if I ever need more rental gear! Also they have awesome selections of camping/outdoors clothing and accessories! read more

Whatcha need? Whatcha need? Whatcha need? Whatever it is, they've got it. Seriously, these guys have such a wide selection, you'll find it easy. I wanted a really specific Kavu hat and, guess what? They had like 6 different options while no one else is Flag had them in stock. Decent price, too. The staff was awesome and super fun to chat with. They gave us some pointers on places to check out and were just overall great dudes. Next time we're in Flag, this'll be our outfitter for sure. read more

These guys are super friendly and the entire process was super smooth, they helped in making my trip memorable.

Opted for Peace Surplus to rent equipments for camping on thanksgiving. Firstly the online form is the most convenient I came across for people who are coming in and around the Grand Canyon from a distance. This shop closes only twice a year but they made an exception for several of us who were first time campers on thanksgiving. Steve was kind enough to arrange things for us in advance and Russell came out during bad weather on the day of thanksgiving to open the store just for us and deliver the equipment. Everyone at Peace Surplus was extremely helpful and responsive during the entire process. Would recommend them without a flinch. Everything from booking to pick-up to return was smooth and hassle free. Made our trip very easy. read more
