Update to my review of May 27. When I rode my bike after Absolute Bikes made it work again, I discovered the gear shift was not working properly. I asked the shop if they checked it. They said no, it was not on the work order. I had requested that they make the bike "road worthy" once again. Seemed odd that that would not include a check of the gear mechanism. My issue wasn't that it wasn't repaired, but that it was never looked at, which I thought would be a routine part of "road worthy" service. They said I could bring it in again on the weekends when they take all comers on a first come first served basis to have it looked it. The lesson here is make no assumptions. You must be very clear and explicit in what you ask them to do. Do not assume they will take the initiative. read more

I talked to Nathan on the phone before I came out. He was very friendly and answered all my questions. When I got to the shop, Nathan was there along with Cece the sales manager. Both of them were very polite and got me the ride bike for the three hour ride that I have planned.Flagstaff was wonderful with a lot of great trails and fun street riding. The weather was great in the low 70s and the bike seat was comfortable with a water bottle attachment and a the nice rack on the back. I will rent from them again. read more

This is the second time the repair crew has helped me out with a flat tire on one of my muck carts. I need all four of my carts to keep my horses' areas clean. Bless Jesse for repairing in 20 minutes or so, while I waited. A second trip to town was what I dreaded. Thank you for my timely and acceptable cost repair, Jesse and Absolute Bikes. The parking is the only downside. Another customer began to pull out without checking her left side, where I had already begun to back up. I honked. She saw me but didn't pull forward to give me room. I was almost hit by oncoming Route 66 traffic trying to back out. read more

After racing both motorcycles and mountain bikes for 49 years and maintaining them I stopped into this store to see if they could order a fork stanchion for my 2022 Rock Shox Boxxer from my 2022 Specialized Kenevo that I dinged. Note: They are a Specialized dealer. Starting with the two guys (boys) up front they immediately started guessing at what I needed and clearly had no idea what I was talking about. Instead of trying to reference what I was talking about, going into a online parts fiche, or picking up the phone to SRAM, or their rep they just said I need to go talk to the mechanics. As I asked the mechanics the same questions not only was I dismayed at their lack of knowledge as they attempted to guess again at what I needed and gave me a couple "I think" you have to buy a complete fork answers, I was shocked at their pure laziness to sit and stare at a computer and not even attempt to research if the part was available. They then, in a cocky manner, said I should just call SRAM and do it myself. The clearly do not understand that they are the retail face for SRAM and I was giving them a opportunity to sell parts ands service. The combined IQ of all 4 of these gentlemen is in the double digits. It became very clear their techs have zero mechanical skills. They should be embarrassed to call themselves mechanics. I would not trust them to put air in my tires. The cocky attitude from these snot nosed children (while knowing absolutely nothing) was shocking and the complete lack of customer service skills left me speechless. They should change the name to Absolutely Nothing Bikes because that's what they know and that's what they can do for you. In my 50 years spent in bicycle and motorcycle shops this was clearly the worst experience. This world is in great trouble if this is the the standard that young men think is acceptable. I feel bad for the owner as he is paying these idiots and all they are doing is driving his business away. read more

i just returned to my office after riding to and fro some downtown errans which I scored me a flat. It was a slow one that I was able to ride into Absolute for air and sealent or thats what my intent was... its a bike shop. The pump out side at the bike repair was MIA. Went in to to borrow a pump, door-man directed me to the shop in the back of the cluttered store. I hate those double doors. Why a bike shop doesn't have automated door is beyond me, glad my grorcer understands his customers better. Wheeled my bike to the rear using the only unencumbered aisle. Told the bike tech I'd like to get a few oz s of sealant and a puff of air (just to get back to the office). He recommend some products they were sold out of then said $20 to fix a flat. I took only a puff of air, all bike techs confirmed my tire had a leak. I managed to escape the store without buying overpriced stuff. Rode down 66 in traffic to a bike repair station for more air and back to the office. If I could afford or want to spend $20 to commute downtown traffic and chaos I'd drive. Have you ever had customer service so stellar that you were left speechless? Well, that happened to me with Kyle McKendree at Absolute Bikes in Flagstaff. I had been trying to get my Norco frame checked out for possible warranty repair and he took his own time to go through the frame to not only get the pictures needed to send in to Norco, but to fix parts, make adjustments, and otherwise go WAY above and beyond what anyone would expect for service. We had an AMAZING/Challenging time on one of the urban trails recommended to us by the shop. We completed about 7 miles and it was filled with Mountain and town views. I will say give yourself ample time and be prepared for up hill trails. José helped us at the shop and he provided exemplary service. He took his time with us and made sure we had all of the information we needed as out- of-towner's. 10/10 would recommend. The bikes were equally great. I got my daughter a new bike for her birthday and I'm so happy I went to Absolute Bikes to find it. They have competitive prices that are reasonable if you're trying to find a nice quality bike, plus I like their rewards program. But what really sold me was the customer service. After Chris Double D Tires went out of business, I've had to find new businesses for my tire repairs. Had a wheel repair off one of my garden carts. Fingers crossed, I walked into Absolute Bikes yesterday, looking hopeful. Lionel quickly came to my rescue. Walked out 20 minutes later with a new tire, inner tube and stuff on the inside to prolong utility. Even the checkout guy was kind and professional, asking how my day was going. I first started coming here when I had an entry level hardtail, and they were as friendly and helpful to me then before I even bought anything. A few weeks later, I was ready for an upgrade, and came in looking for a bike with a budget of 2500. My budget was matched perfectly with the specialized stump jumper alloy, and I have ridden it hard since then. This year has been a struggle for everyone. Absolute bikes has stayed open to the degree that they can, and they have been awesome. Early on during the pa remix I had some bike problems and they were helpful and sold me a new set of wheels. Because I live in Flagstaff but work out of town I am usually pressed for time, and they always get me in. When there was a problem soon after I had gotten my bike back, they fixed my bike for free. This past week I had a problem with those wheels I purchased a few months ago, and again, they got me in, and sold me an upgrade at cost to them, which was a phenomenal deal. Even though I am in there a bunch, and am usually grumpy that I am not riding my bike, I always leave with a smile on my face feeling like I was taken care of. 4/10/2020-Recently, I decided that I wanted to really engage in biking aggressively. Starting with XC ( Cross Country), Trail Climbs, Jumping, you name it . I'm new to the sport and often times I find when you getting into a new hobbies, shops tend to dismiss the rookies for not knowing the lingo or even the first thing about bikes. Luckily for me I went to Absolute Bikes, their staff and shop was extremely accommodating. Down to literally scheduling a time to teach me how to change a tire. It's a rare quality to find in the digital age of learn online, buy in store, see you you next time. I ended getting my wife and I some extreme builds for us and our children some great bikes. Walking into a bike shop can be very intimidating when you don't know a whole lot about bike parts and servicing-- Absolute Bikes is no exception to this. I've spent thousands of dollars on a bike from this shop and they still treat me like dirt. I should have been able to take my bike in there, get a free tune up (because I purchased it there) and it be hassle free. Their form of communication can be condescending, pretentious, and unpleasant. Some of the mechanics at this shop are great, standout folks. Unfortunately, a few other mechanics ruin the reputation of this shop altogether. Even if you own a Specialized bike, or any bike that this shop distributes, I would recommend taking your bike to ANY other bike shop in Flagstaff. Honestly, I think the mechanics at this shop would like you to take your business elsewhere as well. read more

We rented bikes, rack for our first weeklong trip to Flagstaff. We are active riders in Ohio, Northern Michigan and Scottsdale, AZ. When Absolute Bikes didn't have trail maps, we stopped by the Visitors Center& obtained one. We were not interested in mountain biking& learned after the fact those are the only trails( not on city roads or the busy congested downtown) are for mountain bikers. We were promised a full refund when we were in the shop & then they changed their minds& only refunded 3 days of our stay. Very disappointing, for only having the bikes less than 14 hours. Love& learn. We will not go back to Absolute, or recommend to our friends coming to Flagstaff. read more

Solid bike shop. I went in because I was looking for some gear and one of the guys up front was very helpful with picking out what I needed. If there wasn't a size I needed on the floor, he'd run upstairs and try to find it. Overall a good experience and I'll definitely be back when I need more items. read more

Absolute Bikes - Flagstaff and Sedona locations were amazing! We're down here for a month and have had many things come up with our bikes and they helped in a friendly, knowledgeable and efficient way every time. We're women riders and felt it was a supportive environment to get our questions answered. They helped me get a new onset hand pain issue addressed with new grips and dialed them in for me today. (No medical advice given :) My fork and rear shock were leaking and they serviced it and got me back on the trails. A friend was visiting and loved her Expert Stumpjumper rental. They've just really gone above and beyond and everyone we've interacted has been so great. They seem to be treated well by their employer too. read more

TOURISTS BEWARE !! Rented a bike here for 4 days, the result was: Local knowledge: D - they did not know the trail I was intending to ride and could not match the bike to the trail. Bike Fit: D - came up with a heavy bike with 29 inch wheels. Said that was all they had. Should have walked out right then. Equipment: D - bike worked for 1 day. Presta valve failed overnight after the first day, would not hold air after that. Honesty: D - charged my credit card $30 more than the initial quote even after I returned the bike after 3 days. No receipts for anything. Conclusion: at best these people are incompetent at worst just scam artists. read more

I have purchased numerous bike from Absolute over the years and keep going back. I love the 2016 Specialized Crux that I got earlier this year and the Pivot 429 carbon that to got in 2013. Kyle rebuilt and dialed in my Fox fork and shock earlier this season on the Pivot. After a few hundred miles on the rebuild it rides better than new. I used to rebuild my own stuff, but you need nitrogen and a bunch of special tools. The advantage of doing it local is that Kyle can fine tune the damping. For service, make an appointment because they get swamped during peak season. read more

Went in twice. First to secure the online reservation I made and then to pick up the rental bike. First visit-fine. They had trouble locating paperwork but were somewhat helpful describing possible local rides, assuring me they had all I would need (including a certain type of pedals). Second visit-lame. Took at least 15 to get the bike, then they didn't have the pedals I needed. After 10 minutes offered to sell me a new pair at a discount of 80 dollars. So, a day rental would turn to 120 dollars and I would have a pair of pedals I didn't need. I was about to scrap it all and then * suddenly* they found a pair. The staff is inconsistent and not as accommodating to road cyclists as they are to mountain. read more

I was touring across the country and needed a new hybrid bike. I arrived the moment the store opened because I wanted to avoid the heat of the day. The inventory was good but I had a problem with the mechanics. I needed a couple bottle holders installed and some spare spokes. After I paid I was still the only customer in the store. I waited 45 minutes and the bike was still not ready. The bottle holder was not mounted and they didn't even have the correct spoke length for a bike in their inventory. My bike was sitting on a rack unfinished and all the mechanics were working on the bikes of customers that came in after me. When I confronted them they claimed the screw for the bottle holder was cross threaded. I took the bike home and installed the bottleholder in 2 minutes and never got the spokes I paid for. read more

I have visited this place a variety of times over the past 4 years, mostly to browse for parts and bikes, and found it to be really consistent. Sometimes they were helpful, but most of the time they were not. Most of the time I come in, they are interacting with each other, or they take a long time to greet you and help you. They do however have a nice collection of bikes and a very knowledgable staff here, but its too bad they more often have underwhelming service and overpriced items than otherwise. I would love to give them the benefit of my business, but I can only recommend you visit this place if you are searching for a bike or seeking out help in buying one. read more

I went in to look for a new bike. Talked to a sales guy, who was very nice. I ended up talking to the general manager. The GM happened to be the rudest, most arrogant individual I have run across in a long time. Before I saw him, I found the exact Specialized bike I wanted. I had one just like it several years ago, but lost it in a car crash. After meeting the GM, I walked out. No way I will give this place any money of mine. I don't expect someone to kiss my ass, but I certainly expect to be treated like a human being. read more

Great guys. Shouts to CHRIS especially. I bought a used 2018 Stumpjumper and got a decent price for it. It did need a few tweaks after the initial tune up, but they made it right, which to me spells good intentions. I know things can work just fine when repaired/added, but 10 minutes out on a trail they can break, which happened with my drop-post and lower bracket. They replaced both free of cost, which shows they were doing the right thing after I had purchased what I thought was 100% working. The drop post shifter broke a couple weeks later, they tried to get in the plastic one but couldn't, and sold me the upgraded one for the same price as the plastic one. Again, showing good faith. These people are fantastic. What a great concept - Fix a broken part for less than buying a new one. We have a vacation property in Flag and provide bikes for use. One had stripped out the crank/pedal so I took it around for repair to a couple of shops. All were too busy (2-4 weeks). Absolute Bikes took a look and said "We can try and rethread it" 5 minutes later it was good to go. And $5 bucks was way to cheap. I gave them $10 which was still way less than a new crank ~$40. I've been a customer of Absolute Bikes for 27 years! Their business has evolved over the decades, and their personnel have come and gone, but they have been super supportive for the whole journey. I absolutely love what they give back to the community! From supporting the Absolute Bikes mountain biking team, to involvement in trail development, developing the bike park, etc., Flagstaff is a much better cycling community because of their tireless work. Absolute Bikes had a bike for auction on eBay, a 2013 Specialized Safire Comp ex rental. I won the bidding Saturday night at $1655 including shipping but the bike didn't make the reserve price. I spoke to Jared and he said they would sell me the bike for what I bid for it. Fantastic I thought. He said the bike was already boxed up and would throw in some goodies to make it a sweet deal. The transaction was done outside of eBay and I used PayPal to send them the money. Risky I know but I thought I trusted them. Jared said the bike would be labeled on Monday and shipped on Tuesday. On the Monday morning the first email I get from Jared is that the bike will now be coming from the Sedona store not the Flagstaff store from where I thought I was purchasing it. This made me nervous as the Sedona store also had a Specialized Safire Comp for sale on eBay but it was in very poor condition compared to the one I had paid for. The next email said that unfortunately the bike had been sold in the store over the weekend and they would refund me the money. They did immediately refund the money but this is extremely poor customer relations and made me both very angry and upset as the bike I thought I had bought was perfect for what I wanted. read more

I drove here from Phoenix to look at bikes for my kid. My local shop that I have purchased 6 bikes from stopped carrying Specialized so I checked out a bunch of Phoenix shops. As a woman not completely in-the-know about every detail on every bike, I found a lot of the salespeople condescending and not willing to go out of their way to meet my purchase requirements. I found a great deal on a bike for my 12 year old after asking a lot of questions and weighing my options. I appreciate the time and great service I got at this store. They are great people and have a huge selection. I've been really happy every time I have shopped there. read more

I saw a great example of excellent customer service. Walked in the door was asked do we need help. I responded, "yes, my wife is experiencing pain in the tail bone when she gets off her bike." This 7 foot tall giant was very good at working with my wife. He measured her for a proper size seat. helped pick one out. Assured my wife that a black seat would look good on her white bike. He asked me to bring in her bike. He installed the seat, then set up the bike on a training stand and worked with my wife to properly adjust the seat at the right height and proper angle. Most bike stores just hand you a $100 seat and say this is our most popular selling seat. read more

Super helpful with my sons broken frame during the pandemic! During the mountain bike service it was discovered that the bike frame was busted. Absolute called Marin, the bike brand and was able to get a replacement frame. Though through the pandemic it took months for the frame to arrive, but Joey from Absolute kept us updated regarding frame shipment and what kind of delays we were having due to pandemic shipping, product production etc. Joey was great at communication and the work on our bike, transferring all the equipment over to the new frame. Then it was found that the frame Marin sent was a bit different from the prior frame leaving a whole new set of challenges. Joey took time to communicate with Marin and acquire parts to accommodate the different frame and had Marin cover these extra costs. So helpful!!!! Thank you Absolute and Joey! read more

Been to Absolute Bikes a few times and have yet to have a bad experience. I haven't rented a bike from them, so I can't say anything about that, but my boyfriend and I have both had tune-ups done by them and they have done a great job each time. I feel that their prices are reasonable and that they are about on par with the other shops in town. One of the the things I really appreciate about Absolute Bikes is that they are always right there to help the minute you walk in the door. Everyone has always been friendly and seems to be very knowledgeable. Their turnover time is a bit longer than some of the other shops in town. It's about a week for a tune-up, but that might be because it's busy season right now and everyone is bringing their bikes in for a spring tune-up. I did appreciate the fact that they threw my bike up on the stand while I was still there and did a preliminary assessment on it, while also asking me questions about what I had been noticing about the bike's performance. They answered my questions (I had a lot) without making me feel like a dummy....always a plus, eh? :) So yeah, I would recommend them to anyone I know, and an happy to support them with the majority of my biking needs. read more
