Went to Kabin with a friend on a Thursday for a drink after dinner nearby. It's in the West Village, but pretty far south/west, almost in Tribeca. Kabin has an interesting concept: a Nordic-inspired café by day (8am-4pm) and cocktail bar starting at 5pm. We happened to be there on St. Patrick's Day, so there were a few Irish-themed and coffee-based cocktails on the menu. The bartender was very friendly and great to chat with. We were even treated to complimentary Hennessy shots to start, which was a nice surprise. For drinks, my friend ordered the Vaffeltopp ($21), vodka, white rum, berries, lemon, foam, and sparkling water, which was very sweet and almost felt like a dessert in a glass. I tried the Irish Caffe (with Hennessy); I am not sure if I got the mini or full size, but it was quite small and very strong. The space itself is open with high ceilings and a slightly rustic feel, fitting the "cabin" theme. They also offer a food menu with Nordic-style small plates and seasonal dishes that looked interesting. This is a fun spot if you are looking for something a little different, and according to the bartender, it is a popular date spot. Drinks are on the pricier side (most cocktails are $20+), so it can add up quickly, but it is worth checking out if you are in the area and want to switch things up. read more

Kabin is an upscale cocktail bar and restaurant with Nordic influences. It is also a coffee shop during the weekdays between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM. I visited during the evening hours, drawn in by all the Norwegian flags displayed outside of the establishment. The service was attentive and welcoming. Their cocktail menu is impressive. I particularly enjoyed "The Right to Roam," which was a wonderful balance of smoky and sweet flavors. For food, I tried the whitefish spread. I am not sure of all the ingredients in this spread. But I detected smoked fish, dill, lemon juice, and a cream that was pleasantly tangy. The dish is accompanied by bread crisps, which are thin, crispy, multigrain-style crackers. I need to try the meatballs, as it is such a quintessential Scandinavian dish. read more

Cozy spot that is themed like a Scandinavian house. All of the drinks and menu items are influenced by Scandinavian culture. They serve a warm Glogg here which my friend was excited about. I had the Lilliesand drink which was a botanical cocktail. We shared olives and cheese and the sourdough bread. The cheese was a soft cheese cut into small pieces. The sourdough was good. It's served with seaweed butter which I'm not 100% a fan of. It's a little off putting to have seaweed in your butter. Service was friendly and attentive the entire evening. They have two bathrooms and they are gorgeous in their design. The Nordics know their interior design. The bar had candles lit all over all night long. We came in during a freezing cold night and it was just so welcoming and cozy in here. Chill spot that deserves a visit for sure read more

TLDR: Creative drinks in a stylish space with dark furnishings. Love the vibes and interactions with the bartenders! Saw Kabin on social media and had to give it a try. Didn't know what to expect because I very rarely have Nordic food but I was excited from what I saw! Got several drinks and these were my favorites: Xandra: a whiskey based drink with elderflower, fennel, honey, jasmine green tea, and absinthe. It's served with candy coated fennel seeds meant to highlight the flavors of the absinthe. It worked for me and it was my favorite of the night! Oslo: an old fashioned? with cloudberry and cardamom. I love cardamom and this drink was very cardamom forward. I'd come back for this. Lillesand: a gin and tonic drink flavored with lingonberry and cherry. Super easy to drink. Klar: a coconut milk clarified mezcal drink with lemongrass, juniper, and pineapple. To be honest, I didn't really taste any lemongrass and juniper, but I love coconut milk clarified drinks so this was a hit for me. While these were my favorite, I genuinely liked all the drinks. For food, I just got the baguette with seaweed butter. I love seaweed compound butter so naturally, I liked this as well HAHA Service was great! Attentive and friendly. Kabin is a sophisticated cocktail bar in Hudson Square serving Scandanavian-inspired drinks that are as creative as they are tasty. I was initially considering four stars for Kabin because the place was pretty empty when we arrived (at about 10:45/11 on a Saturday) so it was giving closing time sleepy vibes while we were there. I'm not sure if this is due to poor advertising or to the fact that Hudson Square, despite trying to market itself as the hot up-and-coming neighborhood in Manhattan, is still pretty much a no man's land, but docking stars for location doesn't feel fair because the space has a ton of potential. I know this because I was here several years ago when it was PS, which was a super fun time. For drinks and service, five stars seems most appropriate. We came here after dinner nearby. There was plenty of space so we took two seats at the bar to get a front row seat to the process. I happen to have become a huge fan of aquavit from my own amateur bartending adventures, so it was cool to see it featured a fair amount of the menu (typically, you'd be lucky to find one aquavit-driven drink on a cocktail menu). Given that, I started with the Skog (aquavit, italian aperitif, sweet vermouth, ancho chile, cacao), which is made with aged aquavit and features ingredients that blend beautifully with all of the herbs and spiced used to make the spirit. A bold, rich, and complex drink that has a lot going on and is doing it perfectly. I then got the Snø (gin, bitter bianco, dry vermouth, blanc vermouth, mango, bitters), which is basically a white Negroni variation that is elevated but still recognizable as the classic. As a brief aside, I will say that the ice and glassware here really enhances the drinking experience, especially if you happen to order the drinks that I did which were served in old fashioned glasses over a rock. The last drink, which I split with my partner out of fear that drinking it alone would push me over the edge, was the Røyk (rye, irish whisky, dandelion mead, gunpowder tea, bitters) which, similar to my first drink, was powerful and complex, expertly crafted, and in this specific case, a perfect nightcap. read more

I think they have only soft opened because they were only serving a small subsection of the menu. The tuna tostada, while delicious, was very small for the price ($28). The Klar was a very good drink though. I would come back for just drinks. read more

Went to Kabin for the first time and thought the cocktail list and food menu was quite impressive. The interior is really nice and has an overall great ambiance. I would have rated my experience as five stars if it weren't for the service I experienced. I had a bartender who was blonde and heavily tattooed and was so rude that it deters me from ever going back. The service was slow and he acted like he hated being there and was incredibly short tempered. I left earlier than I had planned because I didn't appreciate his attitude. Loved this Nordic cocktail bar! We were shopping and strolling around Soho when we stumbled upon this gem, and it was the perfect spot for a late afternoon bite and drink. They have some lovely outdoor seating on Spring Street! The atmosphere was great, the staff was beyond friendly and attentive, the food was unique in the best way possible, and the cocktails were super refreshing and light. The tuna tostada and the hot dog were my favorite, but every dish blew us away. There were some things on the menu I was not too familiar with, but the staff was well-informed about everything and they actually told us a Michelin star chef created the menu!! You can definitely tell. I told our waiter I'm a huge gin lover and they introduced me to a new favorite spirit of mine, Aquavit!! I'll definitely be back! I haven't been in a bar since my 20s so I really wasn't sure what to expect, but I try much enjoyed Kabin and would come back again! The vibes inside were cozy yet elevated and I appreciated the Scandinavian aesthetic they were going for. I ordered the Oslo cocktail (cloudberry!) and enjoyed sipping my drink. Overall my few hours spent at Kabin were nice, though I wish they played music from Scandinavian artists to really take the vibe up a notch. read more
