Kababchi was highly recommended by a friend and I was really looking forward to trying it. I've eaten food from shisha cafe kitchen before so I assumed it would be the same kitchen or similar. I was disappointed there was no chicken shawarma plate , just a sandwich. So instead I ordered the mixed chicken & beef kabab plate. Unfortunately, the chicken had a very strange texture. I would describe it like a dried out mcd's chicken nugget. The beef was decent. I noticed about halfway throughout our meal that the cooks were cooking the kababs from completely frozen chicken & beef. You can see straight to the kitchen through a large window. I've never known a restaurant (except I guess fast food) to have frozen meats. I assumed Mediterranean food would be fresh. That was a huge disappointment. Our cheesecake was partially frozen so we didn't get to finish that. The hummus was amazing. Lots of oil but still very good. The pita bread was okay. Kind of hard like a cracker in some spots (even our second bread) but the soft parts were delicious. My friend had a beef gyro plate w/fries and said it was delicious and that the beef tasted fresh (not sure if it was previously frozen or not, just kababs). I'm not sure if things have recently changed or if it was just an off day for them. Business was slow so I assumed it'd be great considering it was highly recommended. There's definitely room for improvement because I know it's owned by shisha and their food has always been delicious.

3 of us for an early dinner. Food was on point. We had a pot of Turkish coffee, chicken shawarma, beef Kabobs. Only had to ask for a refill on a water. Nazira is a perfect server. Our food was hot, flavorful, she checked on us even with a full restaurant. Nazira is the reason we come back here as often as we do. First thing my wife said when we walked in was our favorite waitress was here. Well back soon. If this place isn't on your list it should be.

We got the chicken shawarma wrap which I thought was really good. It was a good portion and was pretty tender. I thought it could use a little more salt though. It came with fries and they were so crispy! The baklava for dessert was great and it was crispy but a little bit oily. The workers were nice and we were able to sit down immediately. There was a ton of space inside and they open late which is nice.

This place is hit or miss. I am Lebanese and honestly this is the only place I feel it is closer to my home cooking. It is never consistent though. One time the food is licking delicious and the next not even edible! This review is based on my last visit which I am leaning towards never going back! My friends got there before me and I asked them to order me the grilled whole chicken. I get there to find it at the table looking so dry! I was so hungry I forgot to even take a picture. I wondered throughout the meal how long that chicken has been there reheated and served. I still ate it without complaining. It wasn't a cheap meal though! Moving forward I think I will not initiate a visit to this restaurant unless I go join a group of friends. It is bittersweet since sometimes I crave my own food without having to cook it at home. Kababchi please make sure you quality check before sending things to the tables!

Just got I to San Antonio to meet my husband and daughter. It's 8pm and I'm exhausted from flyingall day. Looked up restaurant near me with vegetarian and Mediterranean (I'm Syrian and Lebanese). Wow! Amazing place! Both my husband and daughter said amazing find. Maha is awesome, friendly and efficient... Friendly being the most important! The food is SO good! We shared a baba ganoush and we ha falafel sandwich and chicken shawarma sandwich. Yummy! Oh and freshly squeezed watermelon juice... My favorite! Thank you!

Perfect place to go for some chicken Shwarma their lamb kabobs are also delicious! The restaurant is very clean and cute with nice seating. You can see them cooking through a window which is so cool to see the process! Our waitress was very sweet, patient, and fast.

Tried this spot out after being recommended by our friends and was not disappointed! We came by on a Sunday so naturally it was packed with families, but we didn't mind lol -- tried to Turkish coffee and it was delicious. We didn't actually get what we ordered but waited a bit for the food anyways so just decided to eat what we got and it was of course very flavorful! We will definitely be back to hopefully order what we wanted to try which was the beef tikka! Everyone was super friendly and it felt very "homey" as there were casual convos going on between staff and customers :)

Food was bussin and I will be back to enjoy more. I simply ordered the falafel sandwich and added fries, as well ordered to-go a biryani rice. Washed it all down with a sweet green tea. Pita bread was soft and warm, fries were crispy not crunchy and the rice was everything and more. I did add tzatziki sauce instead of hummus. Not gonna lie at first I was unsure about the kind of service I was in for but it all worked out. My waiter got his zoom on and everything just made for an enjoyable dinner. I'll most likely stick to the falafel sandwich and rice so this place can be my new go to when I want falafel. They did get my interest with the desserts and smoothies so I'll dabble in those items in future visits. This place is next to a hooka cafe but you wouldn't notice that a whole party scene is next door.

    Business Accepts cash?

I'm sure it does. Businesses LOVE cash because it has no processing fees. I don't see why they wouldn't take cash.

    Open on Thanksgiving?

Yes, we are usually open in the evenings on Thanksgiving. However, for the most accurate holiday hours, we recommend checking our social media pages like Instagram and Facebook closer to the date.

I don't believe the overall experience warrants more than two stars…read more I kept seeing these amazing photos posted by Shawarmatee on social media, so we decided to drive out to their food truck on Friday evening. The truck is parked in the Shell gas station on the corner of Babcock and Wurzbach. There's space for about 5 or 6 cars on the side of the food truck. The menu is prominently displayed, and the area around looks as clean as one would expect a gas station parking lot to be. The gentleman taking orders and packaging the food was polite enough. I'm not one for overly effusive or disingenuous customer service. As long as you're not a jerk and the food and price are right, I can tolerate a bland interaction. We asked for details about a couple of menu items, but he kind of nodded while never answering the questions. We ordered the mix shawarma plate, two Arabi wraps, and an order of falafel, as well as a can of Coke, bottles of water, and a mango drink. It took about 15 minutes for our order to be ready, and everything was hot and well-packaged. He even threw in some extra tahini and garlic sauces (or what he said was garlic and tahini sauce). My kids said the Arabi wraps were fine. They didn't think the sauce had any garlic flavor whatsoever, and the tahini tasted more of oil than anything else. My husband and I both agreed that the beef included on our mixed shawarma plates tasted off. There's a sweetness that develops as red meat begins to turn, and that's the unpleasant flavor we detected when we ate our plates. The chicken, as many other Yelpers have pointed out, was beyond dry. It lacked seasoning and was throat-scratchingly dry. The salad was uninspired and lazy, and the rice was adequate. The falafel was broken and burned in areas, but had an overall good flavor and almost fluffy texture. I had to agree with the kids that the garlic sauce tasted more like mayo. We didn't finish our food and ended up going to an Indian food truck down the street to fill our stomachs. I feel bad writing this because this is an elderly gentleman, but I also don't think the feedback on the chicken and the quality of food is being addressed. We want to go out and feel we're getting our money, gas, and time's worth, and Shawarmatee failed to deliver on that. Instead, it feels like a cash grab from unsuspecting diners.

She was hesitant to try it because she is vegan, but I said I'd go in and ask if they had any selections for her. The waitress handed me the menu and showed me the menu, which had a nice list of vegetarian meals (they looked to be vegan as well) and I glanced at the appetizers which also had some vegetarian/vegan choices. I went back out to the car and told my friend and she seemed a little hesitant still, but decided we should eat here. The restaurant seemed newly renovated and painted, and when I went to check out the bathroom later, that whole dining side and restroom area seemed almost like they had barely finished renovation, and/or still working on it. The restroom was clean though, always a plus. The colors and decor of the restaurant part were nice and seemed to fit well, ceilings were maroon, walls of the restaurant were yellow, but it was perfect. Since it was off in the corner of that shopping center, it made the inside look warm, welcoming and happy. The waitress brought us our own pitcher of water and two glasses and left them on the table and asked if we wanted sodas or anything else, which we said no thanks. Although it didn't seem like the norm thing to do around here, I preferred it, and it's far better than an overbearing waitress that comes around way too often (AKA Formosa Gardens). The menu had some interesting selections... middle eastern food, but hot dogs too? I found that a little strange, but who knows, they could be good. Anyway, we ordered an appetizer called Baba Ghanooj which was a very tasty eggplant dip with spices (check out the menu on their website) and for a meal I ordered the number 8 - Mosabaha - cooked chick peas with tahina sauce and mixed with fresh garlic, lemon juice, and fresh peppers. Topped with olive oil. My friend ordered number 9 - the falafel platter - half dozen, fresh and hot, made from chick peas mixed with herbs and their own spices, served with cauliflower, eggplant and Jerusalem salad. There was so much food, that we shared it all. We couldn't finish even half of it, so we had it the rest boxed for later...yum! Another great thing, our waitnress came back to our table and said we get free drinks with our meals and again asked if we wanted soda. We said no soda, but lemonade sounded good. Their lemonade was awesome! We both loved it. Then she brought us a plate full of fresh watermelon and said it was free. We were both thinking it doesn't get any better than this. These small, new restaurants really know how to get their customers to come back. Sure enough, it is only one month old - their grand opening was on July 1 2010. The last great thing I'd like to add - our food cost about $14 total (without tip included, but we both left good tips of course). Very, very good food for the money. We left there ecstatic, full, and excited to come again. I highly recommend it.

It was interesting, this place is owned by people from Oman and Jordan and yet they serve both middle eastern cuisine as well as some "Chicago style" items. I had a combo platter, which gives you a taste of all the meat they serve (lamb skewer, chicken skewer, and kefta). It is also served with grilled onion and tomato, rice, pita, hummus, and a small tomato/cucumber salad. I will give them credit the kefta was good, but there was nothing too everything else. The other meats needed more seasoning and although the rice was cooked with parsley and pine nuts, it tasted like Uncle Ben's Instant rice or something cheap and without any seasoning. Overall, the meal was pretty bland, when in general it should have had a lot of flavor. So if I decide to have middle eastern / arabic food again in San Antonio I won't be returning to this establishment.
